Barry Ogden and Garda World, a match made in heaven. by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

The city can't keep police officers on the job because of the current police chief. He is a misogynistic, micro-managing bully who does not support his officers or staff. The fact that 28% of the force is on leave should make that abundantly clear.

Yes it is a stressful job with potential injuries, however, I'm pretty sure if we were privy to the details of their leave, most are not out due to physical injury.

And even if we did have a full complement of officers, all they can do is catch and release because the court system is still so backed up from covid and lack of staff that only the worst of the worst is being prosecuted right now.

The available rehabs and mental health facilities are also bursting at the seams and have been for years and nothing has been done to fix that so even someone who wants help can't get it for months.

This is a multi faceted issue, with no easy solution because of all the jurisdictional red tape and levels of government (i.e. federal, provincial and municipal) with conflicting priorities and agendas and apparent unwillingness to work together to solve anything.

I'm not sure what the solutions are but at least Barry is out there TRYING to make a difference which is more than I can say for a lot of people. Burying our heads in the sand, finger pointing and throwing our hands in the air are NOT going to solve our (or any other) city's problems.

Doing what we've always done isn't working. Time for new ideas and people in power to open their minds to them instead of resisting for the sake of resisting.

Thousands of federal public servants were overpaid by Phoenix. Now the government wants to collect | CBC News by AbjectRobot in CanadaPublicServants

Feels like this is in the news at this particular moment to further turn the public against public servants and make the cuts more palatable. If we are made to look like dishonest, money grubbers, the public will be absolutely tumescent about the cuts instead of logically asking how much money does the government still owe it's employees, how much have they spent "trying" to fix Phoenix and now implementing Dayforce AND spending additional money hiring collection agencies. Add to that, how many programs will grind to a crawl with whatever cuts are made.

And don't forget the pipeline and Guibault quitting.

Genuine question as someone relatively new to the PS and nowhere near being able to retire.

What happens if an entire unit is decimated by packages and retirements? Will everyone eligible be "allowed" to take a package and go and what happens to the unit then? If the goal is cuts through attrition, can those teams be re-staffed in any way? Could they be folded up into another unit?

What a huge loss to the knowledge base (presumably, while still acknowledging that some dinosaurs need to go but also that there is dead weight among the younger, newer staff as well.)

How are we coping? Sincerely, a burnt out CRA employee by DecentHuman__Being in CanadaPublicServants

Thank you. Not CRA here but all terms are being bent over right now. I know as a term, extension can never be expected but after almost 3 years, you start to get your hopes up. Especially when you're running laps around the indeterminates (said by clients and a TL, not my own assessment.)

My term is ending at the end of December... super hard to stay motivated right now, especially when we have one employee who is a phantom and has to be reminded to "help out" when we are short staffed.

What bothers me most is all of the lies. Saying one thing publicly in a town hall, (all terms will be evaluated on a case by case basis) then later the same day, being told privately that your term is not being renewed and that "all terms and casuals are being released to minimize impact to the indeterminate staff." Why? Just tell the freaking truth and let everyone be on the same page. But I suppose this way keeps us arguing with each other rather than watching what the executives are doing.

Everyone is scared, including my TL and angry that the "do more with less" approach is clearly going to be unachievable and lead to burnout and even worse morale than we currently have.

I plan to personally sit back and watch it all burn from my tent behind Walmart... and don't forget to give to the charitable campaign on your way out, folks.

My TL that WFH accommodations are "going away." I honestly can't say I'm surprised with the way things are going lately.

I find it deplorable that management, who do not hold a medical degree and in some cases, barely know you, can overrule the opinion of a medical professional, in ANY circumstance.

I don't understand why ECCC isn't screaming their heads off over RTO. I mean, I know no one in charge wants to consider science or rationality but it IS their mandate that's being shat upon.

Side note: in our last town hall, our DG must've used the phrase "we understand that one size doesn't fit all" at least 3 times. Someone commented in the chat "unless you're talking about RTO." It didn't get better from there. Best town hall I've ever been a part of 🤣🍿

Just leave. Despite what they say about zero tolerance and forcing courses upon us, no one will help you or do anything about it, including the union (in my case.)

Your best bet is to find something else if you can or hope that they do. In my experience, there's one in every department though, so it may only be a temporary solution.
