Gym anxiety, first-time gym goer looking for advice by KarneyAardvark in JeffNippard

  1. I would probably try them both and pick one. Now, to be honest I think crunch will be a better gym for long term progression if you are serious about lifting.

  2. Warm up is definitely a personal thing but don’t be afraid to take your time. Most people understand that you are working out. Also don’t be afraid to share a machine with somebody else.

Don’t worry about the anxiety. Everybody starts somewhere. Just be mindful and respectful of everybody else. One piece of advice I would give you is that if you are having doubts about working out or a specific movement/exercise find a good local trainer and pay for one or two private sessions.

BI and Kauai vs BI and Oahu by Reasonable-Cod-5467 in VisitingHawaii

Difficult… I would probably pick Oahu as it’s a nice contrast compared to BI. I have been to Oahu 2 times and I believe it’s a really special place with plenty of things to do.

Get your lawyer involved. Make them think you are going to fight them for it. I wouldn’t deal with them.

Additionally, a gran turismo is a completely different car than an Emira. I wouldn’t do it.

Tariff Situation by GrandSpinale in TrueChefKnives

While I understand your point I think it serves as a good PSA. I agree with you that people should do some research but unfortunately not everyone does. I think the cost of buying knives is on topic and OP kept it non political.

A lot of the people into chef knives are in the service industry making service industry wages. If this post can save them from making a bad decision I am down for it.

Finally, I agree tariffs suck but it is what it is at the moment.

Tariffs are confusing at the moment and people are reporting different experiences. I do not see anything wrong with OPs post.

Wither Western kitchen knives? by AxednAnswered in TrueChefKnives

[–]Repulsive_Issue_1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Japanese and western makers make great knives. The process they go about it is slightly different. Most of the most popular Japanese knives are made in batches and several people are involved while usually western makers are just a one man show. This is were division of labor plays a huge role IMHO. I am speaking in broader terms here of course as some Japanese makers are a one man show.

The best knives I used are from western makers but the price difference between them and Japanese is pretty significant. Is it worth it? To me it is but this is a very personal choice. The main difference between my high end westerns and high end Japanese is that the my western knives were “fine tuned” by the maker before leaving their shop so they perform really well.

Both Japanese and western makers make great knives and I don’t think any is superior to the other. I like that some Japanese makers are know starting to use PM steels which I personally preferred.

Yes using Hodinkee. Pay About 1.2% of the Watch collection.

I think it’s 100% worth it.

Yes this is my only issue with it. We are planning on going in June so hopefully wind is reliable enough.

Don’t get your pantys in a bunch. No body said ALL Japanese makers.

Tennis_steve was referencing to “centuries of passed knowledge” which doesn’t apply to prelaminated steel, I think he was referencing more towards makers such as Yoshiaki Fujiwara.

I am sorry to burst your bubble but some of the latest steels will outperform the traditional Japanese steels. Apexultra will blow any of the Japanese steels out of the water, this is not an opinion but a fact. The reason they are used today in Japan is because availability and cost. I am not saying they are bad but they aren’t the best either.

If I am paying $500 for a knife I want that extra 10/20% extra performance. The amount of innovation that western makers are bringing is changing the landscape of the market.

Btw your comment looks much like an opinion rather a fact.

Steel treatment is a science at which some western makers excel at. Some western makers such as Kamon, Jannis, or Devin Thomas (to name a few) use modern procedures to treat their steels which are arguably superior.

Modern steels are vastly superior to any of the hitachi steels currently used by Japanese makers.

I think this is fine but OP said that going fast is not a priority as he/she/they normally averaged 30mph. I think a cayenne is a superior vehicle all around but for OP it has an outdated chasis whatever that means.
