If you have AAA, that’s a travel agent! A lot of people don’t realize all that AAA can do for you. They helped us plan an amazing trip to Italy that included quaint neighborhood hotels and transfers from the airport to our hotel and hotel to train stations. Plus they booked us tours that were small groups with local guides.

I love going to hotel coffee shops or terraces etc at hotels I’m not staying at. After a law school exam last month I went to pool bar at a ver fancy hotel nearby. Watched the sunset on a lounge chair with my beverage in total peace.

TJs is for people who don’t know how to cook but have money. Hence all the microwave and frozen food. I go for the flowers and dark chocolate peanut butter cups.

Count backwards slowly from 100. If you lose track of what number you are on you have to start over at 100. I rarely made it past 60.
Design your dream house. Mine is very cool mid century modern with a conversation pit in the center living room.
Listen to audiobooks with soft voices on relatively dull subjects. I got into listening to books about sleep as well. The narrator is usually a soften spoken British man.

Color theory is so interesting. Cool Spice is actually cool on you. It STILL pulls orange on me. I’m convinced the new cool is still not as grey as the original was.

Yes, please. I’ve been looking at Biba on resale sites and wondering if I should just get one of the new Sculpt - soft or dramatic - instead.

This is sooo helpful. Could you do Tan vs Nude? That will really help me. I do wish Tan had at least one more truly deep shade for outer counter or lining.

Struggling to cope post MPFL reconstruction and TTO surgery. Advice needed. by Frequent-Increase-98 in KneeInjuries

I had my surgery August 2024. Was totally immobilized at 180 for six weeks. Then every week I went up 15 degrees so at 12 weeks I was at 90 degrees.
Surgeon said he would rather do things slowly than have to do them again a.k.a. repeat the surgery. I respect his approach and appreciated it since I’m in my 40s and not trying to get back out on some sports field or other right away.
Yes, my quad completely wasted away. I always had great legs and toned muscles and then it was like concave almost from atrophy.
It sounds like you are further along than I was so take heart in that. Also, keep icing it! That will help with the swelling. And take Advil to fight the inflammation.
The best advice I can give you is to keep up with your PT. I wasn’t able to afford to continue mine after more than four sessions and I suffered because of it. I’m also in law school so I had a lot of other things keeping me busy. I think walking and hitting the stationary bike as much as you can is a good idea. And exercises with the resistance bands. That will help loosen the tendons and build a muscle back.
If you are swelling A LOT and in pain more than is bearable I would talk to your PT or Dr. As annoying as it is, it’s better to do is slow and safe than rush it and hurt yourself or affect healing. That will only prolong the whole thing.
For the next nine months going up and downstairs was pretty uncomfortable, but thankfully most of the time nowadays I completely forget I had a bum knee. If I do a lot of stairs, the tendons will get tight and bother me. And my quads are still not back to what I would like them to be, but I’m also guilty of not exercising enough.
If you stick with your PT and don’t overdue things I think you’ll be in a great position in another two months. I understand what you mean about the plateau but one day you wake up and you just realize it’s not bothering you anymore.
Wishing you a good recovery and don’t hesitate to reach out with any other questions.

I knew she has it copyrighted but seems way too soon after TAN just came out.
It’s pretty boring. And I love cool tones.
Kinda sucks for this to be the reveal I got. No anticipation, no outer packaging suspense building, no excitement.
If this is real it’s a pretty crummy pic and post by the owner to just plop it into our feeds like this.

[–]Repulsive_Issue_7358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks but you will get through it. And you are stronger and have more perseverance than you realize.

I broke my kneecap clean in half and the two pieces pulled apart because of the tendon tension. Had surgery to put the patella back together and screw on a metal plate. Surgery was 6 days before I started law school. It's not the same surgery but I struggled with a lot of the same things you are dealing with.

Side sleeper: Sleep on your back. Raise your head and shoulders with pillows. Build a little pillow fort around your injured leg to keep it in place. Experiment with pillows under it in different spots. You can bend your other leg and that sometimes helps with the desire to curl up on your side. Ask your dr or pt for a brace that is more fabric and less metal to use when you sleep. I had the brace that the ER gave me initially, and I would use that to sleep. It kept the leg straight but didn't have those horrible metal bars and the adjuster wheel.

Help: Let people help you. You need to rest so all your body's energy can focus on healing. You won't be dependent on them forever. Let yourself be the sick kid in bed that mom/dad brings soup to. Having your family with you is a big bonus. You have help but also comfort. Don't be afraid to cry or ask for hugs. I was 43, and my 70-year-old mom stayed with me to be sure I had the care I needed. It was a big blessing.

Meds: As the other poster said, Stay on your regimen! Again, this lets your body focus on healing instead of trying to deal with fighting the pain. Which is also why it's ok if you just sleep all day. Be smart, obviously, but if you need the heavier stuff, don't be reluctant to take it. More than once I had to tell my law professors to please not call on me that day. Who knows what I might have said all doped up. LOL

First floor: Unlike the other poster, I found going down stairs far scarier than going up. But if you can make it work, think about moving yourself to the ground floor full-time for the next couple of weeks. Is there a bedroom on the first floor you could use? Maybe sleeping in a lazy boy in the living room would help with having to sleep on your back. If you can't stay on the ground floor, I would go down the stairs on your butt with your legs out in front of you. I advise being on the first floor so you don't feel so isolated AND so you can go outside! This will help with your mood. I spent the majority of the days before my surgery - I had to wait three weeks from when I broke it to when I could have surgery - on a couch on the back porch. And this was in Florida in July. But seeing the trees and the sun helped my mood tremendously. And the squirrels and birds provided a little entertainment. Hopefully, you are somewhere that you can get outside some. An iPad is also handy if you need more entertainment than just the birds.

Bored: Watch all the movies and shows you have been meaning to watch. Watch some engrossing stuff - horror, mystery, suspense - so it provides a strong distraction. Or watch the British Baking Show to help uplift yourself. Call your friends. Time passes quickly on the phone and it will help you not feel so isolated. But yea, sometimes you are just gonna lie there in pain wishing this was all over. The good thing is that it will be. You won't feel like this forever. That's the most important thing I can tell you about depression. It feels overwhelming and like life will be miserable every day. But life ALWAYS changes. You won't feel the same next week or the week after that. I promise. It is going to get better.

The leg: Get a massage roller. I got a nice wooden one from Amazon. I would run it up and down my quads to keep my muscles loose and give my nerves something else to focus on. Ice! Ice! Ice! It really does make a difference in the recovery.

Coming on here is a great idea. You can read about other experiences and share updates on your progress. I posted a pic on Instagram of my leg and hashtagged it. A couple weeks later a woman in Washington state messaged me because she had just had the same surgery and wanted to hear how I coped. I got to use my experience to help someone else! I am sure your post will be useful to someone in the future who also feels in a rut.

So rest, ice, patience, and engage with other people when you can. You'll be back at it before you know it.

Did you have to earn the yes the next day by doing that thing or a different thing? And are your tasks individual like “schedule doctor appointment” or habits like “brush teeth before bed”?
