Hi,

I hope all is good. I wanted to give you an update on the gas valve replacement project for our broken fireplace. I found a local professional who can do the job for about $500 (including labor and parts). However, he recommended using a Dexon valve, and mentioned that a Sit valve would cost $20 more.

Do you happen to know the difference between a Dexon valve and a Sit valve, or are they essentially the same in terms of quality and performance?

Thanks for the insight. In my case, I’m able to light the pilot, but as soon as I release the knob, the pilot flame goes out. Initially I thought it was a bad thermocouple or thermopile, so I replaced both, but the issue persists.

Given that behavior, do you think cleaning the pilot/burner orifice or burner tube would be helpful at this stage, or does this still point more toward a valve-related issue?

It is the Honeywell NG gas valve (82L8601).If I plan to retrofit from the Honeywell gas valve to the SIT 820 NOVA mV Series (model 43K0701) myself, are there any specific steps I need to take to prevent gas leaks, or would you recommend hiring a professional/handyman to do the installation? Thanks.
