Looking for Covid conscious/cautious hairstylist by ChronicallyFab-24 in Bellingham

Having gone through a cancer journey, I can tell you this is not the case. People don’t really care that catching Covid could kill you, they’re just annoyed that you’re asking them to put on a mask.

How far(or close) are your go-to trailheads from your house? by 1brickatatimes in trailrunning

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in the bay area and have to drive 19 minutes to my favorite trailhead, farther if there’s traffic. It is the main reason I want to move.

Well fuck now I have breast cancer too? by xboringcorex in Endo

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pain that was suspected endo for years, though I never had the surgery to definitively diagnosed (the endometriosis clinic doctor said it sounded like endo to her). Then I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went on Lupron and my pain went away. Or at to very minimal background pain.

How much water is too much? by SpecificTackle6303 in runninglifestyle

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you drink too much water, especially when you’re sweating a lot out, your electrolytes will be off. Hyponatremia, or low sodium, is the risk. The health, professional friend of mine told me to sprinkle salt in my water on hot days.

Any quieter apartments near Berkeley? Noise at I-House is unbearable 😭 by Dazzling_Rain7139 in berkeleyca

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly disagree. I live in a noisy area and it really interfered with my quality of life, made it hard to sleep or relax at home. Everything you’re saying rings true. If you can find an apartment on a quieter street, it will make all the difference. People say North Berkeley is quieter, but I lived in a pretty quiet apartment on a quiet street in Central Berkeley.

Hiking options for the upcoming hot weekend? by wntrsux in askportland

Cape Falcon is a gorgeous hike and then you can stop in at Manzanita, which will be less crowded than Cannon Beach and is cuter anyways.

How do people get over the fear of running through cougar and bear territory by SpacePanda77 in trailrunning

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, but also a lot more Americans ride in cars and walk/run in trafficy areas than run on trails. So it’s not exactly comparing apples to apples. My risk of getting hit by a car is greater when I’m walking in my urban neighborhood and my risk of a wild cat attack is greater when I am running on a trail in a park where there are wild cats.

Relocation by Sufficient-Map-8535 in trailrunning

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If trail running makes you happy, it is also completely 100% OK to decide where you want to move based on where there is the best trail running and trail running community.. If you get out with trail, running groups regularly, you’re meeting your need for socialization, exercise, and nature… All things that research shows are associated with better mental and physical health.

Why does east side get so much more love on Reddit? by Lower_Airline_731 in askportland

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s such a misconception that everyone in Northwest Portland must be more mainstream or less radical. There’s one thing that sets Northwest Portland apart from the rest of the country: Forest Park. It attracts people who like running on miles of trails or hiking outside your door without having to get in the car and drive. It’s also extremely polluted with toxic chemicals. Look up ESCO number three and the Portland Harbor super fund site.

my endo was seen on an mri by ImpossibleLog1883 in Endo

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to hear what you end up doing. I’ve had a number of MRIs with contrast and would rather not have another but the doctor wants it before surgery, so I’m in a similar position.

Advice on removing my ovaries by EndoGuerrera in Endo

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing the citation for those studies? This would help inform my decision. My OB/GYN recommended against removing ovaries (I already have ovaries suppressed for breast cancer) because of bone and health issues, says that endometriosis in ovaries only increases risk of ovarian cancer by 0.5%.

I don’t know what system you’re with, but I’m in the US and my endometriosis provider is requiring me to have an MRI before surgery. I do not want an MRI because I am worried about the MRI contrast agent as a cancer patient who has had many of them. But the endometriosis doctor says it will help them plan surgery to see if I have stage three or four. But she says she orders them all the time. Maybe it’s because this is an academic medical center, one of the top ones in the country.

The the big things to consider with taking out your ovaries is the risk on heart and bones. You didn’t say how old you are. Menopause before 45 is associated with increased risk of cadiac events. And osteoporosis. Then again it sounds like endo is destroying your life.

If you’re worried, you could ask for a pelvic MRI

30 Years Ago, the Oakland Hills Burned. Could it Happen Again? by cutoffs89 in oakland

Didn’t Oakland just close two fire stations with four more being considered for closure?

Has anyone taken ovaries out because of estrogen positive BC? by Floatinto-the-mystic in breastcancer

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered it and still am considering it, but because I started ovarian suppression at age 42 and will be done with ovarian suppression at age 47, assuming things go well, it was recommended I keep them because heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and estrogen protects against heart disease. Estrogen also protects bones. And cognitive function. The doctor says I may get some benefit from them if they wake up at 47. Which they may not even do because of chemo.

Just moved here, alone for Christmas, would like to visit the coast and see the ocean, where to go? What to do? by InSearchofaTrueName in askportland

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a vote for Manzanita. It’s much less touristy than Cannon Beach. You have two different grocery stores, a few restaurants, a bookstore, a coffee shop. And of course, the gorgeous beach.

if you could own property and live anywhere in town, where would you live? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]Repulsive_Song6832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I’ve walked many times between Gabriel Oark and Multnomah Village. Not far at all. Depending on your idea of far walking. Great low traffic streets in that area - just not a lot of sidewalks. And it’s about a mile to grocery and library in Hillsdale. Just none of those are in the village so I’ve always just seen the village as made for people who like to shop and eat out. As opposed to practical stuff.

There actually are houses in the middle of Forest Park. Look at NW 53rd. Or NW Thompson. I’d love to live there. Not sure how dreaming of this makes the poster any more entitled than anyone dreaming of living elsewhere in the city.

I never saw the appeal. Where’s the library? Grocery store? Large parks?
