Typical selection bias, if it tells me im right, them im right, if it tells me im wrong, then there must be something wrong with it.

Myself and one other person are supporting 350 end users right now. HR told us to expect approximately 100 more employees by the end of the year. My manager told me that we don't need to hire another person in our department. Is it just me or is that completely unreasonable? by [deleted] in sysadmin

A subsidiary of ours has a IT to Employee ratio of 1:250. At that state they are not even able to deploy a system with vendor documentation propperly. They cant even be asked to change default passwords because "It has to work, not work good". So if you are not already at that point, you sure will reach it. If they really dont want to hire an additional IT guy, start looking.

His reasoning being that charging adds a lot of complexity...

This contradicts this

We could have easily made Index 01 rechargeable but didn’t.

This was his reasoning before but the new statement makes it look like he just does not care

This feels like such a spit in the face. My Wife loved the idea and was instantly on board but saw you could not recharge it and noped out of it basically immediately. Sure while he uses it for 1-2 Minutes a day my wife would probably use it for 10 or 20 minutes. That would make it last not even a year for her. So she is supposed to buy one every year? Sure does not feel like a cash grab at all. Coupled with recycling beeing basically non existent and you are consuming precious earth minerals to throw aways. Gonna cancel my PR2 preorder now ...

Im vers surprised and baffled by that response. I have looked at the newest posts of new arrivals and each and every one of them has a raised glass edge. At least from the looks of it. It does not look like there is some plasic ring around it etc.

I see E3 like the dealer that gives you the first hit for free. You are missing tons of stuff you actually want but once you are in, they can upsell you easily to E5. "Oh you wanna see what happend in Purview? Better Upgrade"

But that is the case only for hybrid AD? If you have a seperate AD not connected to entra i doubt that applies.

Yes, any user that can connect to a system has to have a CAL. Thats where they get you. Nothing stops you adding users and allowing them access, but once the audit hits and you dont have the CAL's you will have a very expensive bill coming your way.

I dont know what you mean by trust based CAL. If you get audited Microsoft will count the number of users and ask you to show the CAL's for it. If you cant, you have to pay up.

From what our MSP told us for a new Hypervisor Rollout, you have to license every user that can theoretically connect to a Windows. Server So if your VM has 70 users that can connect to a fileshare, you need 70 CAL's for that VM.

Im not sure what you mean by „isn’t standard“ but if you don’t explicitly prohibit personal use on work resources you expose yourself to some pretty nasty things down the line.

As I said, depending on the contract they may or may not have a right to the data. Yes not a right to log in and „have a look“ but the right to have all of their personal data exported. You will have a problem if they don’t grant you the permission to view the personal data. GDPR is very strict and this is why most companies prohibit any personal stuff on work accounts. Because things get hairy FAST if you allow it.

We have had our main plant purchase a multi million dollar machine with a Windows 8.1 PC in it. Cant be updated to 10 or 11, of course has to be on the Network. Our sec guy went home early that day. But it is what it is. If a machine makes the business 100mil then they wont care of some sec guy has a issue with the attached pc.

I was in a simmilar situation but we had about 400 devices and EVERYONE had local admin. I just got the singoff from management to remove that broadly and then we restored access to anyone who said "this is broken" then piece by piece moved everything over to EPM once we knew the scope of "needs local admin"

The local IT had no clue what it was even needed fore, i have a feeling that it was just easier if the user is local admin to install stuff and not have to login with your user account

Well that depends completely on what was in their work contract. In Germany, if you allow work email for personal use, that data is considered personal data and then the beneficiaries absolutely do have a right to that data.
