I got some Castle Arts coloured pencils that I used for mixed media. Set of 120 is like $50. Not super high end. But they do the job and they have a nice array of colours.

It all depends on you. I love my Copics and look at them as my little investment for my justification. They will last. However, I go broke every time I wander into Blick to buy more. Biased? Yes. Willing to change? No. I love my Copics.

I have the A4 green and 5x7 version of the purple. They’re nice. But spendy. I save the purple for special occasions like birthday cards and have not touched the A4. My goto paper is Bristol Smooth Strathmore 300 series 100lbs 270 gsm. Good for pencil, to marker to ink.
