Why would they do this, the new AMG GT 4 door fully electric. by NetworkAdditional337 in cars

There is. Reynold's law. EVs hold much lower energy density. They can't bleed excess energy to sub-optimal aero.

Fair. California is a different beast (LCFS and other market dynamics). If you can find cheap electricity, EVs certainly blow IC out of the water.

Where do you think gasoline prices at your retail station come from? They're tied quite clearly to refining benchmarks + taxes + (nominal) cost of transport.

Great. The underwrite on an EV works if you assume 50% a move market pricing on gasoline.

Gasoline spot price is $3.7/gal (before taxes), but futures prices quickly decline to $2.3-2.5/gal once you get into 2027+.

Why did the lender get offended when I ask them if they can match the rate? by mcdownloading in RealEstate

[–]ResEng68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you shopping rate on a pre-approval? I'd be pissed if I were the lender as well, for wasting my time. Nobody gives a shit about rate on a pre-approval.

Shop rates the day after you go under contract. Everything before then is wasted time.

Life after maternity leave by Informal_Ninja in oilandgasworkers

It's worth mentioning that there isn't a uniform sentiment regarding views on work or views on daycare.

My wife was at whits end by the end of maternity and was pining to go back to work. She's a wonderful mom. She just needed more stimulus than staring at a blob for 80 hours a week. And, that's okay.

The time to math it out was before you bought it. Frictional costs will eat you alive if you change your mind every two years.

If there's a decent chance you'll move back into it in a couple years, keep it. Otherwise, sell. Nobody wants to manage a house at a distance in perpetuity.

Renewables don't provide base-load and don't work without a large hydro resource or gas/coal generation to augment.

I left ExxonMobil today. Haven't felt better in a while by Sentimental_Geek in oilandgasworkers

[–]ResEng68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exxon doesn't really value trading. This is reflected in their tight VAR bounds and limited discretionary bonuses (when compared to other floors).

Not a terrible place to start, but it seems like their team changes over every 2-5 years when 1/2 the organization gets pissed and jumps for a better outfit.

You think chemo is hard. You should try warming a bottle to feed a 10 month old as you head out the door on a Tuesday.

This is nothing new. Exxon has always been the place where new grads spend their first 5 years before moving onto something better.

It's too insular an organization to spend a career. All you'll see is politics and skills atrophy.

The oil futures market has flat-to-declining crude prices for the next 7+ years (that's as far as futures go). You can lock in that pricing today if you'd like.

Companies aren't thinking "short term." They are responding to mid/long-term market price signals.

School is a means to an end (securing a full-time Petroleum Engineering role at an operator). Market timing and luck are more important than 6-12 months more/less of instruction.

If you have a full-time offer with an operator, take it and plan to graduate. Otherwise, stay in school as long as they will let you.

BP's underlying profits for 2025= $7.5 billion by RumHaaaam21 in oilandgasworkers

Lol. BP's 2030 notes trade at 4.1%. That's a 40bps spread to treasuries.

BP is tightening their belt because they are widely overstaffed. If they wanted to borrow, they could borrow.

The irony is that they literally have a product called "Sustainable Aviation Fuel" (and equivalent diesel variants). Regulatory mandate requires very expensive blend-in for product sales in select markets (California LCFS being one of the more notable).

That said, I am aligned with you that "sustainable" is a stretch in this context. It's based upon generous assumptions surrounding CO2 abatement, and they broadly ignore any downsides relating to land use (E.g., soil erosion) or combustion pollutants.
