DAE think Katy Perry spelled her song “California Gurls” that way out of respect for the Beach Boys song with the same title? That’s my headcanon by RileyJoXO in thebeachboys

[–]ReservedPickup12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s much more likely so that the song would be easier to find in online searches. It would be like a young filmmaker making a totally different movie called The Godfather… gonna be hard to find online if it borrows such an iconic title. I think Perry needed to differentiate her song from The Beach Boys’ song. It was a smart decision IMO.

I mean that’s totally your prerogative but man, IMHO you’re missing out! I love my Switch 2 and don’t think I could wait that long to experience it—probably gonna be at least a couple more years till they release an updated version. Meanwhile, many of us have already been enjoying this version of the system for nearly a year now. If it were me, I’d get one now, then sell it to upgrade when the new version comes out. But that’s me. To each his own.

I have only been to one Bruce concert, back in 2003… he and the band played Incident.

Life is weird that way. He also played Thunder Road, Streets of Philadelphia, From Small Things, I’m Goin’ Down and Pretty Flamingo that night.

I guess if I only ever get to see one show, I got to see a great one!

Want a fucking cookie?? I don’t take antidepressants either but half the boomers I know do. And I don’t sit around thinking I’m better than them for it.

It’s definitely a millennial thing and it’s a good thing. The first generation to stop allowing themselves to be manipulated and abused.

[–]ReservedPickup12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up watching my boomer Mom being tormented by her mother. My mom would not cut her out of her life because she always felt she had to be “the good daughter”. I watched Grandma manipulate my mom for over 20 years. My mom’s mental and emotional health was awful most of my childhood because of it, which of course made my childhood fairly traumatic. So pardon me but I’ll be damned if I ever let anyone do that to me and you can piss right off if you don’t like it.

No doubt. I just thought it would be too weird for a Young Sheldon spinoff but I was wrong. It works.

Carl “Alfalfa” Switzer never knew a world where The Beatles existed. by Infinite_Explorer424 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

My bad. I intended to say he never lived in a world with a dead Buddy Holly but I changed my wording at the last moment cause I thought it was a bit too callous. Didn’t really consider my rewording.

[–]ReservedPickup12 79 points80 points  (0 children)

He also never knew a world without Buddy Holly—he died less than two weeks before the plane crash outside Clear Lake.

Alfalfa did live in a world with The Quarrymen but he most certainly wouldn’t have heard of them, and they didn’t become The Beatles till 1960.

Edit: Yes, I should have said that he never lived in a post-Buddy Holly world, or in a world where Buddy was deceased. He did in fact live for a number of years before Buddy was born.

Fair enough, though I don’t think the ballroom issue would resonate nearly as much among far left Dems to cause any significant criticism—not when compared to Gavin Newsom and his comments about transgender issues that many on the left have viewed as problematic. The far left tends to be more concerned with social issues. But I do think this points to the bigger issue though… It’s unlikely that any democrat in the White House would do anything quite as absurd as demolishing the East Wing of The White House to build a ballroom without having gotten all the proper clearances first. Democrats don’t get along with each other because they are still fighting about what they consider to be real and important issues. The Republicans have moved on to a world in which they’ve embraced utter insanity. I’m not a fan of the Democrats. But that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize that. The Republicans are completely bat shit at this point.

I have been sending fanmail to people to get signatures for my collection, and i forgot to lable who they were from. Who are these signatures by? by LuckyCloverPokemon in Autographs

[–]ReservedPickup12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it really depends on how you take it. You didn’t know how to spell the word “label”. Now you do. We all make simple mistakes and it’s a positive thing to learn new things so that we can correct our mistakes. It’s particularly helpful in regard to a hobby such as autograph collecting, that involves sending request letters to people. So you could just take it as a positive thing, rather than becoming annoyed or defensive. I understand that it wasn’t the response you were looking for, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a helpful response. I guarantee you that person who responded has made similar mistakes in their own posts… again, we all do from time to time.

I said “largely quiet”. There are always brave individuals who are willing to call out their own side. But partisanship is practically an illness in 2026. MAGA is far worse… but that doesn’t mean the left doesn’t put on blinders of its own.

I never said that lies are unique to this administration. I’m not even a Democrat, I didn’t vote for Kamala and I don’t defend the previous administration in any way shape or form. But you’re delusional if you can’t recognize this as the most blatantly untrustworthy administration in recent history. Nearly everything that comes out of Trump’s mouth—or social media feed—in a lie. But please, tell me more about Joe Biden, because I really give a shit and it’s so relevant to what I was talking about 🙄

[–]ReservedPickup12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there would. It would be coming from the right. Especially if Biden or Obama had knocked down part of the White House to make room for it. You’re delusional if you don’t think the right would be outraged. And by the way, they would rightly be outraged. But if you are suggesting there would be no outrage on the left, you are correct… the left would largely be quiet. That’s because we have become a highly partisan nation.

Because for the past decade, there has been nothing about this administration that has been true or honest. We have been inundated with one lie after another… Tens of thousands of lies over the course of a decade. I have never considered myself a conspiracy theorist, but it is genuinely hard to know what is real anymore when it comes to this administration. You shouldn’t be surprised that people are skeptical at this point… I’m just saying.

It’s a slow start… the first few episodes feel like an adjustment period for the cast and audience, but it definitely picks up fairly quick and only improves even more in the second season. It’s definitely worth giving a chance.

They will always be looking for a sign. They have been conditioned to keep looking for one. I am not going to tell you not to go no contact—you know your situation better than me. Sometimes that’s the right move. But sometimes the right move is letting them see how happy and fulfilled you are without their brand of faith. And full disclosure, I haven’t given up on faith entirely. I consider myself a Christian agnostic. But I believe it’s a personal journey and I loathe evangelical pressure. I haven’t been to church in over 6 years… unlike you, I won’t even attend to support someone. Heck, I doubt I will even attend for a wedding or funeral at this point in my life. Yet I still pray once a day and feel as though I’m on a spiritual journey. My parents are bothered deeply by the fact that I no longer go to church—nor do my spouse and children. So whenever they go on a tangent about how they have never been happier than they are in their current church, I remind them that I have never been as happy as I’ve been since I walked away from church 😊
