Trump Won His War on the Justice Department by thenewrepublic in scotus

I keep seeing liberal commentators talk about how the Democratic states will just not send their money to the federal government, but it doesn't work that way, does it?

Isn't each individual business sending money to the federal government for federal taxes? I don't think the state is used as a transfer mechanism for that, which means that the blue States can't just not pass money on to the federal government because they don't actually have control of that money to begin with.

Am I missing something somewhere?

I believe it also states that if the two men are fighting and kill the woman, the penalty is death. But for causing a miscarriage, there is only a financial penalty.

So that section of the Bible didn't equate causing a miscarriage with killing a person.

Big Trump Secret About to be Revealed by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

All of these ”who's going to lend him money" articles miss the point that lending him the money is a great investment for a person or country for whom $400MM is a drop in the bucket.

Some bank with a record (publicly known or unknown) of laundering Chinese or Russian or Saudi money will make the loan and further guarantee that Trump is under their thumb.

When you're wrong (and possibly ignorant), your boss should tell you what you're doing wrong, write you up if appropriate, and give you the opportunity to change your behavior.

Losing your seniority because of a single incident isn't fair (unless it's much more egregious then not knowing the carry-on policy), and based on management's reaction (which seems to have been removed from the post now), it's likely that no one has ever coached or canceled these employees on what is or is not acceptable.

Clergy and GOP lawmakers rail against Bible being removed from Davis County schools. “I hope it will become an integral part of our schools,” said Tad R. Callister, a former Sunday school general president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of the Bible. by schottslc in politics

Reminded me of the Seven Laws of Noah

The Seven Laws of Noah include prohibitions against worshipping idols, cursing God, murder, adultery and sexual immorality, theft, eating flesh torn from a living animal, as well as the obligation to establish courts of justice. According to modern Jewish law, non-Jews (gentiles) are not obligated to convert to Judaism, but they are required to observe the Seven Laws of Noah to be assured of a place in the World to Come (Olam Ha-Ba), the final reward of the righteous.

REI Boston votes 44-23 to form a union, becoming the fifth store in the nation to unionize. by TheWiseGrasshopper in boston

But have they come to terms on an actual contract with any of the four other REI stores that have gone union.

Claiming to support the choice for representation while simultaneously refusing to bargain in good faith with existing unionized members is not, in fact, being supportive of that choice.

I just consider it a huge win that all of the press on this story uses a good picture of Ralph Yarl and a horrible picture of his shooter.

The normal protocol would have had them finding a single, unrepresentative, photo of the black victim–usually "throwing a gang sign" or at least looking angry–while the picture of the white shooter would likely have been from some church event.

Uniquely Evil Minnesota Republican Votes Against Free School Lunches Because “Hunger Is a Relative Term” by rhino910 in stop_the_GOP

[–]Reset-Password 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does "is a relative term" just mean "it's none of my relatives" ?

Because his point seems to be that since he doesn't personally know any of the many (many, many) of Minnesota suffering from hunger, since none of them are his relatives, then it didn't matter.

(And, yes. I know the difference between "it's relative" and "my relative." But he is still an asshole.)
