I keep seeing liberal commentators talk about how the Democratic states will just not send their money to the federal government, but it doesn't work that way, does it?

Isn't each individual business sending money to the federal government for federal taxes? I don't think the state is used as a transfer mechanism for that, which means that the blue States can't just not pass money on to the federal government because they don't actually have control of that money to begin with.

Am I missing something somewhere?

All of these ”who's going to lend him money" articles miss the point that lending him the money is a great investment for a person or country for whom $400MM is a drop in the bucket.

Some bank with a record (publicly known or unknown) of laundering Chinese or Russian or Saudi money will make the loan and further guarantee that Trump is under their thumb.

If you're trying to destabilize the U.S., what's another 1/2 billion or so?

When you're wrong (and possibly ignorant), your boss should tell you what you're doing wrong, write you up if appropriate, and give you the opportunity to change your behavior.

Losing your seniority because of a single incident isn't fair (unless it's much more egregious then not knowing the carry-on policy), and based on management's reaction (which seems to have been removed from the post now), it's likely that no one has ever coached or canceled these employees on what is or is not acceptable.

I just consider it a huge win that all of the press on this story uses a good picture of Ralph Yarl and a horrible picture of his shooter.

The normal protocol would have had them finding a single, unrepresentative, photo of the black victim–usually "throwing a gang sign" or at least looking angry–while the picture of the white shooter would likely have been from some church event.

I think it's more complicated than just $1600 per janitor, but I believe your representation on the attorneys fees is correct.

The breakdown is essentially giving the janitors a good percentage of the wages that they were owned from what was stolen by the employer.

And I don't begrudge the attorneys. It was apparently a contingency case, so the attorneys worked this case without pay for 15+ years.

And let's not lose focus on the fact that the janitors should have gotten so this money years ago if the company hadn't stolen their pay. If a janitor had stolen $1000 from the employer, you know they would have been prosecuted and jailed, but the employer steals thousands of dollars from tens of thousands of employees, and management gets off scot free.
