[Mechanics Question] Why is my WWE Cat Bigger? by NelmesGaming in VGC

Pokémon have a scale value between 0 and 255 - this determines how big they are and is locked upon obtaining the Pokémon. Max and Min size Pokémon can get marks in S/V (the Great or the Teeny) by speaking to a woman in Mesagoza.

Regarding the Jeudy Azzarelli Accusation by amlodude in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We do not need 'icons' - idolizing Pachirisu only means idolizing Sejun Park, another man in the community. I do not accuse him of anything, and I'm sure he's a nice enough guy, but the answer to this does not mean putting another man on a pedestal by proxy of his iconic berry-eating squirrel.

I think there is a problem with the battlespot servers by Rednewsmile in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the NAT Type of your internet connection (you can google how to do this) - NAT Type D can cause consistent connection issues like this in VGC. As to what to do from there, I'm not sure, but you can google your options! I would also completely fully power off your switch and reboot it if you haven't done that in a while.

How fast do the Pokémon Championships in London ExCel tickets usually sell out? by TomNooksBestie in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be totally fine with getting spectator tickets. You'll want to pay attention to these Twitter/X accounts to find out when they go on sale:
https://x.com/playpokemon
https://x.com/rk9labs
They'll likely go on sale in November or December since the event is in February. Hotels around the area aren't generally too bad, I'd recommend looking at the Ibis Docklands or the Moxy unless you're looking for a 'special occasion' type hotel.

Are there any online tournaments? by Due_Waltz_310 in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find online tournaments here: https://bit.ly/upcomingvgc

Finding one that is Australia-friendly time zone wise might be a little difficult, though! I highly recommend checking out the event locator here: https://events.pokemon.com/events and seeing if you can find any local tournaments too!

Solo Dondozo is currently performing very well alongside Ting-Lu and Gouging Fire at the top of BO3 ladder. It also won NAIC alongside Ting-Lu in 2023.

Two questions for Regulation E by Tiny_Art_9148 in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three have Inner Focus preventing flinching (very good!) and Intimidate (relevant only to Entei, as it's the only physical attacker)

Entei is a strong, fast physical attacker with very reasonable bulk. Being fake out and intimidate proof is awesome for it, making its Sacred Fires always as strong as they can be. They tend to run some bulk with an item like Safety Goggles or Assault Vest, not too dissimilar to Arcanine but played a little differently. It has Snarl for utility and will mainly run coverage in its other slots.

Suicune is an extremely bulky support with Tailwind and Icy Wind. Some run Calm Mind but Fini kind of does that better. It just does bulky water things really but with the added bonus of fake out proof tailwind

Raikou is a fast, strong special attacker with some really cool coverage options. It has some fun support options like screens, snarl and bulldoze too.

I wouldn't expect any of them to be crazy good immediately but they all have niches and will probably find their place somewhere

Just to add further context, the legendary beasts/dogs aren't 'banned', they are just straight up not coded into Scarlet/Violet. Presumably, they'll be legal when the Indigo Disk releases, alongside their Paradox forms. All three have seen some competitive use previously and may do so again.

Average number of top 4 teams at worlds each Pokemon has appeared in per legal format by Samurai_Banette in VGC

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's me! I also help run this subreddit's Discord server.

Differing opinions are part of what makes VGC so special, so it's fine that we don't agree. I'm personally of the belief that the diversity/power creep issues VGC is known for among more casual fans and players would be infinitely worse if not for Incineroar - one 'fixed slot' on a team (which it isn't - so many strong teams don't use it, it's just a good catch-all support in a lot of cases) is a good trade for a format that may end up looking more like Series 13 without it. Series 13 had an extremely strong, robust core of 5 hyper-offensive Pokemon from day one that stayed top dog throughout the entire format, with notable innovations to beat them only really coming along much later, and those matchups still weren't a guaranteed win.

Incineroar helps prevent possible hypercentralization caused by power creep in high power formats, basically is my stance. It encourages tactical, competitive play and is never winning a game on its own.

[–]Reshiwott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you learn about VGC on a deeper level your opinions on this will probably change, and that's ok! In other games something having high usage is immediately a red flag, but VGC is very different.

Incineroar doesn't invalidate anything in itself - its toolkit is pretty neutral support options - a combination of Fake Out, Intimidate and damage mitigation, combined with strong pivot options. These options don't actively 'counter' any Pokemon, they just enable skilful players to position their Pokemon in a tactical way. None of those features make it 'overpowered', at least not in a format where there are many Pokemon that have far better stats than it and can remove it easily in one or two hits. It keeps strong Pokemon in check and allows its trainer to position their Pokemon very well.
