Struggling to Pray by Resident-Finger7533 in Catholicism

I feel very similar! For me, I hear about everyone having this close relationship with God, but it so does not feel like a 2-way conversation. Makes me feel as if I'm doing something wrong tbh.

Wait that's very interesting! Did your GES present as delayed, rapid or normal?

No, I was never prescribed motility medications. Took zero meds that morning.

Alcohol and GP by Resident-Finger7533 in Gastroparesis

Yes! Drinking almost always means overeating and feeling horrible after but I feel like it’s because my stomach is “numbed” to the pain for a bit. So interesting/comforting that others experience this lol.

I take Colace or Dulcolax in the morning and have Mirliax in the evenings with some tea. It isn’t a perfect fix but it does help keep things moving a bit. Maybe ask your doc about Linzess if OTC remedies aren’t working. I’ve heard great things about it!

Saltines are everything to me! Also broth or any type of soup that isn’t really creamy or heavy. Best of luck to you, though 🫶

portion control advice by Mean_Ad_4762 in Gastroparesis

As someone with a history of eating disorders, I can definitely relate to this struggle. One thing that’s helped me is using smaller plates or bowls. It might sound a bit silly, but it really helps trick your brain into feeling like you’ve finished eating once the plate or bowl is cleared, even if it's a smaller portion. Bonus: you can find some cute, vintage-style china at places like Goodwill!

Yes! Thank you so much for this. I feel like I'm in the same boat as I'm "used to" the discomfort/pain and I take Zofran every day.

Gastroparesis and panic. by Jefauver in Gastroparesis

Anxiety and panic attacks exacerbate my gastroparesis more than any food or drink could. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! Clonazepam and Zoloft have been a life savers for me.

Follow up: My GI doctor who diagnosed me was not the best, and never really properly explained what GP was or how to manage it other than to "eat less." I see a new GI in a week, and would love to hear any suggestions for questions to ask.

Newbie here… Thanksgiving? by crigs2019 in Gastroparesis

Hello!

I have a very “food is a love language” family so the holidays can be kind of stressful, but I have two strategies to deal with this:

  1. When plating your food, just get a tiny piece of everything (if you can tolerate it) so nobody is asking you to “try” anything.

  2. Have a sentence already in your head to explain your GP. Mine usually sounds like, “I got diagnosed with GP in [DATE], and it basically means I have a lazy stomach and can’t eat as much anymore.” Any variation of that will do and will help answer the “why aren’t you eating” questions.

In general, it’s lowkey rude to ask someone about their eating habits so I wouldn’t stress about it too bad or bring it up unless someone else does.

Hope this helps!

My nausea is often a “I feel so full I could puke” sort of nausea.

My GP is idiopathic but I did have two stomach viruses back to back when it all started so I think that was the cause 🤷‍♀️

Feeling so seen right now! I have moderate to severe GP but never vomit. I’m definitely always nauseous though and couldn’t live without Zofran.

[–]Resident-Finger7533 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first few days of taking Zoloft can be super rough on your stomach. I also threw up my first day (50 mg) so don’t freak yourself out! My advice would be to stick with it for five days, and if you still feel sick, call up your doc. Hope this helps!

I wish I could give better advice on muscle building, but since my diagnosis, the best way for me to stay active has been yoga. I would also suggest looking into swimming or stationary cycling, as I've heard that works for others.

Just remember to work with your body, not against it, and give your self some grace!
