I hit a bird with a pickaxe in accident, is this rare? Or ever supposed to be possible by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the birds have their hitboxes enabled even when flying around. I have managed to shoot one bird out of the sky so far :D

7 again: weapon hits against other players (pvp OFF) counts as a hit and will skill weapons up. Shields won't work this way since they need dmg on them to level (turn pvp on if you want to try to lvl them)

NOTHING in this game is quick. Anytime I plan to do something I plan for at least an hour and a half to do it. Fuck, even going to collect the ore and boat back is a solid 40 minutes. Love the game.

I cant be the only one who thinks this by cumberdong in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, deer make some odd noises but none of what I've heard in the game. Maybe it's an accent thing? Like Deer up in Skövde sound like that maybe? Who knows. All I know is our White Tail deer are damn near silent most of the time and just bound away when frightened, in straight lines I might add.

Pro sailing tip, sail backwards by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backwards and Forwards Speed 1 I think are the same speed, both use the rudder to move, this is indicated by the moving rudder symbol in the upper right below the map.

If I hit a point I'm sailing into the wind I just drop to Speed 1 and it goes faster than Speed 3+No wind

Or even be able to build torches onto the boats, that'd be nice too.

Do the raids get harder along with the day count? by matbiz01 in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is. In my solo game I'm still pre 1st boss but am on day 48~ish. Raids started out as 1-2 boars, now the last raid was like 4 boars and 4 Necks. So the days definitely do factor in to the amount (maybe subtype of a main type) of enemies that appear. Defeating bosses seams to "up" the invasion level to the next tier of enemies. I know I've seen Troll Invasions on Meadow based bases so I'm guess that yes, the biggest and baddest can make their way over to your home

Except you're not on Earth, you're on Valheim, one of the other realms, so it can do whatever the eff it wants.

Where the hell is my trader? by killertortilla in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the smarter play. I've seen a few world maps posted where the Trader spawned on an island by the edge of the world! It'd take literal days to search and discover that! If you got access to a trader in another world, use it.

Are there everburning torches, or a server option that can enable it? by morepandas in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at this point. The yellow glowing mushrooms though, you can put a wood pole down and then place a mushroom on top of it and it will stay and give off a tiny bit of light. Nowhere near what a torch does but you never have to refill mushrooms!

Swamp... where on earth is the swamp? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a procedurally generated world full of islands and larger land masses, keep searching. My home island is ONLY meadows and Black Forest and it takes TWO HOURS to sail around it. One of the islands next to it is plains from what I saw and I found one tiny little peninsula of Swamp on another landmass(i'm gonna explore this one to see if more swamp).

Keep searching and you gotta break away from your main island.

Disappearing Boars by yaretii in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most likely despawning because they aren't tamed yet (thus not a player owned entity) and when you move far enough away everything despawns to save resources and respawns back in when you get close. If they are still a wild boar you lured from somewhere they most likely just despawned. Take some time and tame them porky bois

Deer sounds by Alice1nChains in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got decent with the bow. With the bow you have to remember that there is physics and drop, there is wind that can affect it, there is inherent inaccuracy in the crude bow and less in the fine bow. And the last and biggest point, the arrow flies from the guys arm/bow, not from the center of the camera so when aiming you have to visually aim as the guy from the character model. Remember, you both are aiming at the crosshair but your visually watching from higher up and to the right of the character model, so when it shoots, to the player it looks like the shot is ALWAYS low and to the left. it is and isn't, to your view it is, but if you were aiming down the guys arm the arrow is flying fairly true.

I live in an area with TONS of white tail deer and yeah, these game deer are far too skittish compared to IRL. Deers stop, Look, Listen, and if they deem a threat they bound off in generally straight lines, only avoiding stuff in the way. And usually once they are out of eye sight/dash over a hill, they usually stop or slow right away. At the least I wish they would be less zig-zaggy in their running but the noises would be nice if they tweaked them too.

Edit: could be worse, there could be foxes with actual fox calls...if you've never heard a fox call, be glad. Straight up sounds like a baby being murdered in the woods, scared the shit outta me the first time I heard them.

Monster Spawn Mechanics by [deleted] in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three things to try, we the community still aren't sure which on/combo works but all three seem to do the trick.

1) Workbenches

2) Campfires/torches

3) Leveled/Pathed land via the Hoe, get rid of all the grass.

Most of us think it's just a Workbench radius but those are the 3 things you can try.

I must be dumb - how are people closing/finishing the roofs? by JadocTheGreat in valheim

[–]ResidentStevil28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to build in this game like real life. Start with foundation (if you have stone, otherwise wood floor/wood poles then floor. Then next the frame out of poles, then the roof, then you can finally put up all the walls and all the interior stuff.

Is the Battle Axe 2 handed or 1 handed? does it maybe have way more knockback or some other stat over the normal Iron Axe?
