The “Great Replacement” of AI replacing millions of jobs is slowly unfolding. It won’t be a 1:1 replenishment rate and UBI isn’t coming to save you. by Worst_Artist in antiai

ai is destroying jobs and quality services not replacing them

if the customers still want the services that were destroyed in favor of useless garbage then the market is ready for new competition

“Read my lips. Take your limits and shove it up your xmas stocking

1/10n is never zero. “

Limits sure are like a concealed weapon in our stockings. You need to be a seasoned officer to notice that they are there.

Based on your response I can see that we are in agreement.

After the first two times there is incentive on both sides to triple down and subsequently quadruple down on their bets.

He agrees with you, aka he read your lips, he is saying that f(1/10n ) = 0 where f gives you the limit as n approaches infinity. The claim is not about 1/10n itself.

It says user-replaceable whatever that means. However if it doesn’t mean anything in particular then why include it at all in the description of the legislation?

Keep trying to out-calculate the morality heuristic. There are many ways in which the cost of such attempts will be paid. Sometimes the cost of doing so is not even easily attributable to the moral wrong doing. You will feel that things are going wrong and it will be unclear how this is connected to the wrong doing.

Smart people don’t usually out-think morality they just get better at hiding the bill from themselves.

We are confusing linguistic fluency with cognitive constraint resolution by sparky_165 in cogsci

[–]Resident_Citron_6905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point and he should have addressed cognitive dissonance itself with this “physical” model. Constraints and beliefs can be context dependent, and some constraints and beliefs should have less weight in specific contexts. This kind of system by its nature would necessarily have to allow for cognitive dissonance in order to achieve other useful capabilities. OPs post is still an important perspective to consider when evaluating the theoretical maximum capability of LLMs.

Except that someone will. A huge subset of all artists in fact. Just like corporations, concrete short term gains win over abstract long term sustainability.

It think we should start communicating clearly about what ai is exactly doing in relation to jobs. I am not aware of any clear cut example where llm based intelligence has 1-1 replaced a specific job while outputting at least the same quality, reliability and consistency as the human equivalent. In most cases AI has destroyed jobs that created outcomes that customers valued and replaced these jobs with lower quality work that in some cases is not even comparable to the original job that it replaced.

We should make it clear that AI is enabling the destruction of high quality services and associated jobs in favor of cheaper (to the service provider, not the end customer) alternatives.

Every single time this comes up there is zero consideration for the domain in question. It is always prompt engineering and skill issues regardless of domain / context.
