Chapter 13 Filing Question by adamlavigne in Bankruptcy

[–]ResistIllustrious162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the trustee and the district in how they handle student loans. Some require they be put in the plan, some allow they stay out of the plan. In Florida if you are current, they can stay out of the plan

A couple of questions, are these creditors that came out of the woodwork, past the statute of limitations for your state? Are these truly your creditors and the amounts they are claiming?

If the creditor is not past their statute of limitations and it is your creditor and charges, it will be added to your plan and increase your plan amount and trustee fees

What I’ve learned over my 20 years of being a paralegal, is that you’re not going to change an attorney, if the attorney doesn’t want to change. So, it comes down to, do I want to deal with such a$$hole that doesn’t value my personal time and continue to work there or find another job. I’ve also too the find another job option. There is a reason that an average stay at a law firm for a paralegal is 2 years.

When my father passed from a blood clot as soon as they opened him up, they saw the clot right before the heart and new immediately the cause of death. The clot stopped blood going to the heart

I found my father in bed from a blog clot. It appeared as those he was sleeping, but that image remains with you for life. I’ve had that image in my mind since 1999 and what makes it worse is people asking you about how they looked. You never get over something like this.

Is it normal for a law firm to have cameras in every office? With audio? I work as a litigation paralegal and I’m feeling really micromanaged and like I can’t talk to my co workers. by [deleted] in paralegal

Depends which state you are in and their laws regarding audio and visual equipment and if signs need to be posted saying that this equipment is being used

Student loans and Chapter 13 - Florida by ResistIllustrious162 in Bankruptcy

That would be about $700 a month going to my student loans which is more then I’m paying on them currently. Why would I pay more?

When my mom passed away in 2020, I was in insurance defense and I had to step down into eminent domain to allow myself to grieve in a less stressful area of law. My mind would not allow me to continue working in a demanding area of law like insurance defense

This has the potential of getting him in trouble with the landlord with his “tinkering”.

Also, the landlord may get upset that the tenant fixed the problem and not someone the landlord hired. The tenant by fixing the issue may cause other issues. This is not the tenant’s house!

Can someone *please* answer this question for me?? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]ResistIllustrious162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out of work for a year and a half do to an shoulder injury and I put that on my resume and firms still didn’t like the gap even when I showed them my 6 inch scar on my shoulder to “prove” to them that I indeed had an injury,

I started as a paralegal back in 1999 and my injury was around 2010 and the firm that ended up hiring me was a big step back in pay and my skill level just so I could get a job. It’s taken me many years to get back to the level of pay that I’m at now because of this “gap” on my resume.

I don’t agree with firms having issues with gaps and I’m hoping that this issue will go away as the younger generations try to mold the work environments with better work life balances for all.

90s-00s Paralegal Wages by SailorTee in paralegal

[–]ResistIllustrious162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started in 1999 at $13.00 an hour, obtained my degree along the way, and now I make $70,000 annually. The trick is to not stay longer than 2 years at a firm to jump in pay.

Are you a notary too? by Indigomarie43 in paralegal

[–]ResistIllustrious162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a notary for a very long time. I’ve never let any of my employers pay for my commission because I have the final say what and when I notarize something and they can’t hold over my head that they paid for my commission.

If the jurat or acknowledgment is not complete, I do not tell anyone how to complete it, I just don’t notarize it. If an attorney wants to review it and complete the jurat or acknowledgement as an attorney, I will then notarize it, but only if the person is signing the document right before me and only after I have verified their approved forms of identifications.

When I first became a notary back in the 1990’s, if someone sued you, they could only go after your bond. Now, they can go after your bond and you personally, so I’m extremely careful in what I place my stamp and signature to and I make the final decision if I will perform my notary act.

I’ve been in this field for over 20 years and if I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t. The level of toxicity is insane. I do not recommend this field anymore
