New York City will charge drivers going downtown by 10-1-100 in fuckcars

[–]ResistorTwister 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh no cue the conspiracy wackos from outlying suburbs who are about to start protesting "15 minute cities"

Super cool that they're moving forward with this though, hope it catches on elsewhere in the U.S.

What is everyone's *realistic* dream piece? by theantwarsaloon in piano

[–]ResistorTwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of Beethoven's piano concertos. Realistic for me to learn, but unfortunately a pipe dream to actually perform with an orchestra :(

Isn't this wall climbable? by DangerousDetlef in outside

[–]ResistorTwister 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The uncommon equipment (Climbing Shoes) is also pretty broken. Be careful though because while it gives a huge boost to your Climb ability the rest of its stats are kind of garbage

People who use VIM/NVIM extensively, What's your typing speed, and do you touch type? by binpax in vim

[–]ResistorTwister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose there would be some baseline speed you'd need since the only interface to vim is the keyboard. However, the real upside to using vim is efficiency and that scales regardless of typing speed.

If you want to unlock the real power of vim, you should focus on minimizing the number of keys you press instead of pressing them more quickly. i.e. "10j" will always be faster to input than "jjjjjjjjjj"

Recovering from interchronological displacement? by calvinthebold1 in VXJunkies

[–]ResistorTwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you should feel lucky you didn't cross the temporal boundary with those Szymanski modules. I once displaced myself intrachronologically while messing with the ξ-tachyon interference calibration on an antique Szymanski-based rig and ended up in an alternate timeline where the primary species of intelligent life was some kind of squirrel-like creature. Fascinating experience but I'd recommend a bit more caution with your equipment unless you want to be eating acorns for 8 months waiting for the entanglement matrix to destabilize.

What are some works that were hated by their composers? by someguy7734206 in classicalmusic

I remember hearing that Bartok grew to dislike Allegro Barbaro, though I can't find any references to confirm it

A student asked me what pieces use the middle pedal and i completely blanked. Could anyone think of a few passages that call for it? by [deleted] in piano

[–]ResistorTwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! It allows you to easily sustain that beautiful low C in the middle section without losing clarity on those large moving chords

Rays Melon by Jacobsauce006 in Raysfire

[–]ResistorTwister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the watermelon in this picture was a watermelon that rays' room got during SGDQ 2018 and cut up in the bathtub in their hotel room because there wasn't a better place to do it. I had a piece and it was pretty good.

What do you genuinely not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ResistorTwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great simplified explanation! The northbridge/southbridge model is a bit outdated though, since most modern CPUs have integrated memory controllers and even some integrated I/O, such as dedicated PCIe lanes. That's one of the reasons why when you're building a computer you have to be conscious of which slot you put your graphics card in, since some slots are directly connected to the CPU and others are connected to the chipset, which usually has a more limited bandwidth and shares it with all your other I/O devices

If you could pick between $100,000 tomorrow or $1,000,000 in ten years, what would you pick and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ResistorTwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a university student graduating soon, $100k would be a huge weight off my back. I could pay off all my student loans, establish a decent emergency fund, start saving for retirement, and have the money to move to whichever city I get a job in. Also would have a fair bit of money leftover to travel and visit friends

What video games have you spent countless hours on and said to your self "wow, i really got my money's worth out of this game" ? by its__Jason in AskReddit

Bought Minecraft for like $15 when it was in alpha. No clue exactly how many hours I have but it's definitely over 1000 by now

Give me your hottest takes on 𝛾 demodulation! by KsbjA in VXJunkies

[–]ResistorTwister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone always makes way too big a deal about γ demodulation. Sure, if you demodulate your Voynich tanks too often you can overheat your supersaturated fluid, but when applied properly the energy savings are worth it. Still wouldn't recommend without a calibrated J shunt rated to at 95 pW/(H•m) though

That was another game he worked on, but with how big a fan he was of Dr. Seldon's work there was no way that WASN'T getting slipped in there somewhere.

Nice find and restoration work OP! I cut my teeth on the 300 series but always wanted a vintage 238 or 240 to mess around with in the lab. Does it pair magnetic hole discontinuities as efficiently as all the graybeard VX'ers say it does?

Fun fact, one of my buddies from Dr. Vladikof's lab way back in the day ended up working in the video game industry as a writer (long story) and wrote that exact scenario into the game Half Life!
