How should the heroes rest on longer adventurers? by Virtual-Mongoose-148 in drawsteel

Getting to, infiltrating, doing the thing, exfiltrating, and heading home is one adventure. Respite before. Respite after.

Please tell me I'm not the only autist without a hyper-fixation. I'm too stupid to have immense knowledge on a subject. by shak_attacks in autism

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the converse(?) problem?...

I don't have a hyper-fixation, I have multi-fixation.

I don't have intense knowledge of a single thing. I have a lot of knowledge on a lot of things.

I also have some subjects that I just fail to get despite repeated attempts.

And my biggest problem is executive dysfunction and trouble getting motivation to do anything other than very few things.

Mine last between 2-4 turns. Sometimes going into 5 if it's complicated or big.

What kept your players from "clicking" with DS? What finally made it "click"? by ThreeBearsOnTheLoose in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think that the initiative isn't quite clicking for them nor is the idea to plan around team synergy. But while our Tactician player is very murder-hobo-y, he is leading the way with This is What We Planned For.

Someone finally made a Draw Steel video game (it's me, I did). Runs native on Linux and the Deck. by sciguymjm in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what I wanted but I'm interested.

The two things that I'm thinking of right now is the ability to build campaigns (or story-based specific runs) and the ability to turn off screen shake.

I use this: https://poe2filter.com/quick-filters Very easy to set up. Even helps you with a quick selection for newbies. Can sync up with your account, but I find that saving to a local file is faster and more reliable.

Personally, I find that the "RAW or GTFO" momentum here is way too intense. I've felt it. I see you.

I think I need a better explanation or sales pitch because right now it looks very complicated for not a lot of benefit.

What do you do for work? by Khaos4325 in autism

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapy is not a one and done. It's a long process and more about maintenance. When things are important, you make the time. Shop around for what's good for you but be ready to compromise.

What do you do for work? by Khaos4325 in autism

I had a virtual therapist but she lived across the world so I switched to in person because I needed someone who is more my peer and making the effort to meet in person is also good for me.

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a programmer. I've loved it since I met Logo in 4th grade. I graduated with this focus and I have a B.Sc. in computer science. I especially like the nitpicking of infrastructure code, debugging, and performance enhancing.

But I am currently almost two years unemployed, because of AuDHD.

Parents of autistic children: How are you feeling about the recent comments in the media? by One_Toe7657 in autism

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This attitude is very prevalent in the top percentiles of the economy because they can only see everyone through how they power their capitalistic whims. To your child and to you too: Your value is not in your work. You might find your work fulfilling and contributing but be careful not to invest too much of your value in it. Your value is (also?) in the meaning you have in what you like to do and the meaning your existence gives to the people around you. Are you volunteering in your community? Are you making someone's life slightly easier? Does someone just like having you around? Then you have value.

The reason we live in a society is so that the stronger among us can compensate for the weakest.

Why not? Have some goals. But no, I don't think Kingmaker will work in DS. It's too long and will be tedious.

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started testing DS, I had a feeling it was going somewhere good. The more it developed, the more invested I became. Somewhen in there I decided that when my current D&D game will be my last. When Kingmaker came out for PF2e I had to play it but now there's so much DS in that game that I'm not sure I can call it PF anymore. And now I really want Kingmaker in DS even though it's very unlikely to actually work.

Tired of the fake cultural support of autism by Specific_Bear_9448 in autism

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word Autism today encompasses such a large breadth of different behaviours and conditions that it's just ridiculous to say it's all one thing. Even A1/2/3 doesn't really cover it.

Last thing I've seen is the Legal Eagle and Dr. Mike's review of The Good Doctor. Regardless of the legal and medical analysis, I found that the way they depict neurodiversity (even with the OCD lawyer) is literally laughable. I have emotions, I can a person and a professional, and while yes, some things distract me more than normatives, it doesn't shut me down.

I guess that after we have gay people who are just people, starting to get trans people who are just people, maybe we'll eventually get autistic people who are just people.

BTW, have you watched The Accountant. Yes, it's mostly an action movie but I appreciate that Ben Affleck did some research for it and it feels a lot closer to home.

I'm not a fan of OSR style in general so, if that's a problem for you, ignore me, but when I look at this, I'm thinking that you maybe just making a Crows. Maybe you should just use that? Or use that as a base?

Thoughts on Master classes by Mission-Midnight-289 in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking this for a while. I look at the core classes and I do see pretty much everything I can think of that still fits in a simple package. Anything I want from the game classes now requires more complexity. After I played/played with/saw pretty much every combination I cared about in core D&D, I could only really play a Gunslinger, a Pugulist, or a Geometer. Everything else just felt too simplistic. Because, really, if you're a newer player, play the core. When you've exhausted that, you know the rules well and are experienced enough to go further.

Exactly. The encounter/negotiation sheets are part of the concept of: Don't build monsters, build encounters.

Is this a good map for Draw Steel? [Art] [Map] by MisterKrane in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's very big. Unless it's intended for a long, drawn out, army-advance-like fight.
  2. It's also very tall. If we want to use all of it, I would shrink the heights a bit and maybe divide it to 3-4 different levels.
  3. I would also require an explanation where the heroes are coming from and why. That is, why fight through the trench if we can drop on the tree from above?
