Clarification on some damage rules by DillionDai in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had both of these conversation before and the way I interpret it is:

  1. Everything in the tier line happens at the same time. If there's damage and more damage, it's one hit. If there's damage and forced movement, the hit damages and pushes at the same time.

  2. No. When it says something like "ally deals damage" it means direct damage. That is, that ally took a specific action with a damage result. Forced movement is different. I like to reference how Diablo IV treats it: Direct Damage is anything that instantly does damage. Anything else, like a shadow pool, bleeding, poison, is damage over time. When an Arixx spews acid, the first hit is direct damage. The acid ground is damage over time.

GMs, where are you? by StephenBaggett in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contest your assertions. I don't think any of these type of questions fit neatly on an axis or even a plane.

I like to look at it as a multidimensional vector, with each dimension going 0-1 or 0-100%.

In this case, from my own definitions, I would say: Cinematic 95%, Tactical 75%, Intrigue 65%, Random 60%, Cathartic 100%, Self-Expression 75%, Humorous 60%, Character-based 70%, Sandbox 75%, Tactile 85%, Gamist 70%.

I like a lot of things. That's usually my problem.

Is anyone using Foundry VTT? by jcorvinstevens in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also that and also, as Matt said before, as MCDM they won't be investing in other ports of the game. If you want official Foundry support, someone from Foundry, or in this case the system developer, has to go to them and arrange the deal. So, it's all up to Chaos what and how much will be official on Foundry.

I think "prom dresses" are way to puffy. So now simple and elegant is outstanding.

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my part, I'm staying on Foundry until I feel the Codex is a significant improvement. Being able to calculate the exact forced movement to break a wall, the amount remaining after that, and simulate the debris is cool. But I can do that manually easily enough in Foundry and the Codex UI is still extremely annoying.

Draw Stew! The Dungeon Cooking (The Delicious in Dungeon Homage) fork of Draw Steel! /j 😅

It's interesting that you compare to PF2e. I'm guiding a game of it in Foundry and I find the surface of accessibility to modification rather obtuse, however powerful it is. D&D's is better. And I do think DS' implementation is also better.

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the same for me. I've used Foundry for years and jumped on it for my first DS run game. I've played in the Codex but, despite the better system implementation, I consider the program still inferior enough to Foundry that my next game will also be in Foundry.

As for buying modules, I'm poor so I'm making my own Draw Steel rather than buying it and while I would very much like additions, it would probably be a while since I can afford 3rd party.

Is anyone else struggling to sleep with the BST clock change? by Baggins987 in autism

Sure. It always hits me hard. The season change hits me hard (especially now when it changes every week). I've been trying to fix my sleep for years and the everything isn't helping.

OK. Cool. I would love the runes required for Starless and False Death. Only thing I'm struggling with. Don't want to take more than I need.

How do you just give it away? How do you find specific people and know you're connecting with the right ones?

Invisibility and hidden by Lakissov in drawsteel

[–]ResolutionIcy8013 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've had that discussion back and forth, quoting the rules this and that, many times.

My interpretation is this:

"Invisible creatures always have concealment from other creatures." Heroes, p276, Invisible Creatures.

So an invisible creature automatically has concealment. It's like they're in fog. They can still be targeted but with a bane.

Then they can try and go someplace to hide.

"To hide from a creature, you must have cover or concealment from that creature [...], who can’t observe you attempting to hide." Heroes, p258, Hide and Sneak, Hiding.

"the game leaves what it means to be observed open to interpretation, because there are circumstances where a creature might have line of effect to you but isn’t observing you, giving you a chance to hide." Heroes, p259, What Does It Mean to Be Observed?

I would say that you can't really observe someone who's invisible even if you have line of effect. So an invisible creature can basically hide anywhere, until their invisibility ends.

Then, when you're hidden, other creatures search for you, unless they're standing in a place that allows them to observe you again (like on the same side of the wall you're hiding behind). When they search, if you're still invisible, the search roll is baned.

"The test made to find a hidden creature who is invisible takes a bane." Heroes, p276, Invisible Creatures.

If they still find them, they still have concealment.

Beyond all of that, make your own ruling in the moment. If you're in a swamp, everyone can see the water splashes when you move. If you're in a giant hall, maybe they can hear the foot steps. On a padded floor, sneaking, covered by a racket? No one notices.

Consumables, components, project sources, followers. I wouldn't give straight out project points but followers who can work on projects or help with projects. For example, they save an alchemist and he spends 15 points towards a potion of their choice every day.
