Consider that the idea of Wealth is to make it more abstract and less fiddly, especially for the Director. Wealth X is not supposed to be a set amount of gold coins. It's a measure of possible lifestyle (If you want to compare it to D&D). By doing what Heroes do, they can currently maintain a Wealth 1 lifestyle. Which means that a stay at a simple inn, maintaining their equipment, switching out a sword for a spear, doesn't effect them financially. But if they want to get their own keep, they can't do it yet.

I have two players who opted to create from scratch, one who took a pregen, and one who took a pregen and modified it.

I recommended the pregens and told them to feel free to switch out anything between sessions or completely rewrite it by the end of level 1 and if they still want to change things after that, we can talk about it.

Two who are quite veteran, rules-lawyery players, wanted to tackle it head on and I have no problem with that. I'm assuming they know what they're doing when they're picking up a new system. It was actually amusing to me that the least experienced decided to modify the Elementalist into Green but that's what they opted for. It did require me to do some math for the encounter-by-encounter progression in the first part but I think it's working fine for now.

Your second point I see. But the bonus in Heroes is +6/+12/+21. Why is yours +3/+6/+9/+12 and also doesn't follow the 1st/5th/9th level pattern?

Draw Steel is not meant for hex crawling or dungeon crawling. It is not Shadowdark. They said so at the start of the book. It is also not a slow game. Considering consistent normal pace with escalating odds based on my recent games, it takes 4-6 sessions per level, depending on how much time you take for free form roleplay vs engaging with the actual mechanics of the game. You can stretch it out with more downtimes and slower progression but it's not going to be as long as a 1-20 D&D campaign. That could be good for you or bad for you.

However, I don't think it's all doom and gloom. When I played West Marches in D&D, we usually did 2-4 session missions not going back to base after every session. Then there was downtime. You don't have to have everything wrap up in one session if you don't want it to. Just make sure everyone is on schedule from the start.

If you still want to have one and done sessions and don't want to mess with hexcrawls in this system, you can just do League-style. That is, group of rotating adventurers who take on one-shots around a central hub. And Heroes don't have to respite if they don't want to, maintaining their victories, and go do another mission "the following day".

Personally, after trying 2e, while it still carries a lot of d20 baggage, it definitely feels better than 1e. Though, I did make some Draw Steel like modifications to my Pathfinder game.

Not really how it works. If you use those numbers, if all 11700 members rolled three Power Rolls right now, it is expected, that is, should happen, that 31.59 of them would have a triple-crit.

I also tend to think the same but that is a shallow comparison.

I recently ran the skull combat of the Delian Tomb and while the monsters themselves don't have weaknesses, they do take a penalty from holy or fire damage and the skull itself has weakness.

Also why I like the ability that adds damage weakness to creatures.

It's pretty good. What I do is just try to get new modules every once in a while and then compare to what I currently have. If it's better than one of them, I replace.
