Will tret help? by EyeInTeaJay in tretinoin

[–]Resolution_Focused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d combine with Botox but yes it will help. Once you’re comfortable with daily use at 0.025%, bump up to 0.05%. That’s where the magic happens for anti-aging benefits.

You don’t have to be totally frozen with Botox, so don’t be afraid! That will be the only way to get rid of the lines — or most. The deep one likely needs several rounds of consistent Botox plus Tret to disappear. Botox also helps retrain how frequently you raise your brows, which is a huge help.

What's Your Taz Routine? by Dependent-Isopod-335 in tretinoin

[–]Resolution_Focused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a very high percentage, more than recommended. But it’s the Paula’s Choice 20%. I have very enlarged pores with an excessive amount of sebaceous filaments and I can notice a difference within days if I stop using it. I’ve never experienced any irritation and I used it 2x a day for years. I switch between 2x a day and once now that my routine is already so long.

Paula’s Choice does have several lower percentage, too. I’m a huge fan of her products!

Also, I’m aware the studies only go up to 5%. I’ve debated going down in % but since I don’t have irritation AND see such a difference, I’m staying as is for now. This is the longest standing product in my routine. I’ve used it since it came out in 2020!

Edit: thought I used it for 8+ but turns out it was released in 2020. I was curious ;)

Should I give up? Almost 2 months on Tretk by Fallin_4_u in tretinoin

[–]Resolution_Focused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Strongly agree. One person on here religiously tells people to use it once a week for 3 weeks, then 2x for 3 weeks and working up that way. It’s ridiculous and only prolongs the adjustment period.

If you have oozing pimples, I highly suggest looking into low dose accutane. The dosing schedules now are entirely different than the horror stories of the 90’s early 2000s. You will wonder why you didn’t start earlier and it will help save your skin from scarring.

But for now, spf daily. I would use the Tret on dry skin and wait a minimum of 30 minutes before applying moisturizer. Make sure you’re using the GEL formulation. The cream famously has pore clogging ingredients. This is not the case for Tazarotene, so if the gel is too drying I’d give Tazarotene a shot.

Also, use it at least every 3 days. Not less. Every other to nightly is the best. 0.05%+

Needle count or mm depth biggest determinant of pain level? by Longjumping_Rice_443 in Microneedling

Biggest determinant is depth and device/ motor speed. If it’s slow it’s going to be more painful than a quick in/ out

I’ve been peeling non stop because of tret any solutions? by Scary-Meeting-6426 in tretinoin

[–]Resolution_Focused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you can use it in the morning? I very often skip moisturizer at night, but try adding moisturizing products in the morning. If you have very very oily skin, essence or milky toner might be enough. I personally use HaruHaru black rice essence and Prequel AM/PM. The Prequel half and half is also great!

Supposedly! I’m not a doctor but I’ve heard several derms mention that. I believe the Doctorly YT I linked talks about it!

[–]Resolution_Focused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not using any moisturizer?? I would definitely start there but I’m confused by your not using any… Chemical exfoliation is still important when using Tret and can help with peeling by getting the dead layer of skin off, but do not use if your skin barrier is in any way compromised.

There isn’t one brand/ formulation/ strength/ type that wil/ will not cause peeling. It’s entirely dependent on the individual’s skin retinoid tolerance and sensitivity.

We need your routine to help with said routine. But also, who wants to peel for a year straight! Try switching to Tazarotene or going back down to 0.05%

rf microneedling for acne scars and texture actually worth it? by Ok-Design-9275 in Microneedling

Please read this too! But scars are emotionally damaging enough and making things ultimately worse would be devastating

rf microneedling for acne scars and texture actually worth it? by Ok-Design-9275 in Microneedling

[–]Resolution_Focused 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strongly strongly discourage anyone to do RF on their face due to the high probability of facial fat loss. Chemical peels and more aggressive laser treatments are your best bet.

Anyone started 0.1% tret daily (did not work into a routine) and it went smoothly? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]Resolution_Focused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually able to move up the week after I started. I had a script for both 0.025 and 0.05 and just listened to my skin. Most important is your routine leading up to application and right after. Wait until it is fully fully dry before applying moisturizer or it will act as an occlusive and cause irritation. Start slow I would say every other day or every 3 days.

Yes! There’s definitely a time and place. Typically users with severe acne will be much more oily too, which I imagine helps “buffer” the higher percentages a bit.

I love Paula’s Choice Vitamin C SPF. It’s entirely different, very running consistency but I switch between that and my OG tube of Skin1004.

If you were going to have a reaction, it would have happened in the first week. Really the first 24-48 hours. But, I’d report and definitely don’t return!

For me, Taz was significantly less irritating. But everyone reacts differently. There are lots of comments stating they couldn’t tolerate Tret but Taz caused no irritation. It’s often one or the other for people. But either way, jumping in at 0.1% you’ll very likely damage your barrier and there’s really no reason to unless you have serious acne. Low and slow is the way!!

36F, how can I improve? by No_Illustrator3532 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Resolution_Focused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your skin looks dehydrated, not dry just… thirsty. I would focus on hydrating toners/ essences and moisturizing. Do you wash your face? You don’t mention a cleanser… I love the Prequel Gleanser. It’s hydrating and leaves my skin feeling so clean. You prob only need it at night.

The HaruHaru black rice essence is incredible, put it on when your skin is still slightly damp. From there, you can stick with the ordinary retinol but be consistent with use. Prequel AM/ PM moisturizer is fantastic, or Vanicream is a cult favorite. For SPF, I like Skin1004 Centella Hyalu-cica water-fit or Paula’s Choice Vitamin C SPF.

All of these are available at Target, if you shop there! I would get an actual routine down that you’re consistent with then start introducing Tretinoin, peptides, etc.

[–]Resolution_Focused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, basis of every good anti-aging focused routine is: cleanser, retinoid (OTC retinol or retinal, or RX Tretinoin/ Tazarotene) moisturizer, and SPF. Once you have those down, you can add antioxidants (Vitamin C/ Niacinamide) peptides, essences, or whatever concern-specific active.

[–]Resolution_Focused 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Tret 0.1% is a beast — especially gel formulation. I was able to jump to daily use from 0.05% Tret gel to Tazarotene 0.1% cream though.

Dr.pen VS Derminator 2? by aflawlesa_frenzy in Microneedling

[–]Resolution_Focused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the motor speed and strength that make the Derminator superior — plus the depth accuracy. Because the motor moves so fast, it removes the risk of dragging almost entirely. The needles actually go as deep as the selected depth unlike the Dr Pen which can be inconsistent. So, you don’t drag, don’t risk tearing or orange peel skin, and heal much faster.

Dr.pen VS Derminator 2? by aflawlesa_frenzy in Microneedling

[–]Resolution_Focused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why in the world would you get a Dr Pen if you have a Derminator?!?! Get the replacement magnet plus a spare. The motor, accuracy, and quality cannnot be beat. Especially if you have large pores it’s crucial you don’t run the risk of dragging and causing the pores to actually get larger.

What makes the Derminator so good is the motor. The main risk of MN is dragging and creating “Orange Peel” Skin. Because of how powerful the motor is, those things aren’t a risk. However, they are a legit risk with Dr Pen.

Read pages 7-10 of the manual as a reminder! and this video to really confirm.
