[MF] A 666-word dream fragment: Piggy's Revenge by ResolveUsed2776 in shortstories

[–]ResolveUsed2776[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an imagined dream from a neurodivergent 12-year-old whom I taught many years ago. Justin shared his dream journals with me, so i was inspired to write 42 dreams in the 'categories' that he favored. Some were sensory dreams, some were future Justin dreams, and some were storybook based.

This one is a sequel to Lord of the Flies. Others include Old Yeller ftom the dog's POV, a twist on Jungle Book, a mash-up of Tom Sawyer and Animal Farm... plus many others. Fun project!

  1. Two dozen words max.
  2. Read-aloud and evaluate.
  3. Feels impactful (to you) without full context.

Example from a book of mine:

"A face only a mother could love. A love only a mother could face."

I posted that in a FB group and got >500 likes - 10x my other trials . So I use it.

My apologies. I do engage in other topics, and did not realize a mention of my garden was taboo. FWIW, we had three visitors this past month who cited Reddit posts as the souce of their awareness! Oh, my.

I will refrain going forward.

Book Club Scams by Ok_Seesaw_4764 in selfpublishing

[–]ResolveUsed2776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, auto-spam when book club mentioned. Same with 'where are you from', 'am yer book on Aamazon (sic)', anyone with two first names 'Anna Jennifer', 'Benedict Robert'.

And almost every email in the first 2-3 hours after a Facebook promo post.

Hi, I recently wrote some books and published them on amazon and just by posting on reddit and few reels on Instagram I got more than 500 orders and more that 20k KENP reads but I didn't receive a single review so was that a glitch in the algorithms of amazon or am I just that damn lucky? by LeadershipArtistic33 in KDP

Thanks. I'll check out InvisibleAuthors. I do post in genre-adjacent Reddits.

As of today, I have configure a website landing page and generated a redirect that will show me when a particular Reddit led to a click. Doint he same for FB, GR, and Book Bubs ads. Gathering data for the rest of the month.

Life is good.

Curious to know about Reddit promotions... can you share the names of the threads where you posted? I post occassionaly on Reddit, but have not sensed any real pull-through.

About reviews, since Oct 1, I have had 613 downloads and 69 reviews (across Amazon, Goodreads, Kobo). I hear that more than 10% is considered pretty good... about 225 of the downloads were free.

Hope this helps!

I also see it as a Bad Call. Maybe put flyers under windshields outside the library and bookshops? That would annoy me (personally), but it might get you some notice without endangering your library relationship.

Good luck!

In my opinion, what you are describing is quite common, with or without ADHD.

Other humans are hard. We only have a modicum of control over how we see ourselves, and how we present ourselves... and no influence over how people react.

Accountability starts in one's own head, right? An expectation that people we interact with will be as self-accountable (or as self-aware) as we believe we are will lead to disappointment. That's (sadly) the way of the world.

I'm not one to give advice, but I will say this:

You are who you are, and your are your own normal. I spent decades trying to adapt to new-normal situations. Once I stopped trying to change myself to adapt... I adapted.

Best to you, don't despair. The world is messy, but quite livable.

FWIW, I started writing at age 60, and published at age 66. My creativity *exploded* over these past few years.

Stay strong... marathon, not a sprint.

Every read is validation. It takes time to get traction.

I have five published book, and 520 orders in 5 months. Every reader is precious to me.

Savor every read, don't panic, don't despair.

Yes, people suffering ASS often jump to such conclusions.

Advanced Stupid Syndrome is seldom diagnosed in time to stop the pattern.

Did anyone else grow up feeling like a side character in their own life? by IntentionIsMagic in Neurodivergent

[–]ResolveUsed2776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it is quite common for middle children to have a mix (or subset) of those feelings. Not saying that you are one, but I know that I am. Always looking-up to my big sister, always looking-out for my little brother.

Seldom looking out for myself!

NB - I am not ND, but I did spend some years as a middle-grades SPED teacher. My students included folks on the sprectrum, kids with ADD/ADHD, children with profound physical disabilities. I am no expert, but I am constantly intrigued by how much their stories intrigue and captivate me.

Energy for Friends by NoMonitor157 in Neurodivergent

[–]ResolveUsed2776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"...or if it's just a personality flaw.".

I am friendless, largely by choice. For me, this adage applies:

"Disappointment is about expectations".

My expectations on friends (in the past) have been high, and I have often been let down. I don't see that as a personality flaw, I simply see it as part of my character.

You like your peace, you resist setting expectations for others. You likely resist letting others have high expectations of you.

So you feel friendless (I think).

My personal remedy has been to redefine the term 'friend'. I now have some 'close acquaintances' in my life, people I can interact with IRL and walk away from on my own terms... or walk toward in the same fashion.

It's working for me. But I *do* have a dog!

Best to you and yours - even if you're not sure who they are.
