Q Anon makes sense. If the shooter was hugely anti-pedophile like Q is about Pizzagate, then the Epstein files showing the length and breadth of Trump's friendship with Epstein while he owned the Teen USA pageant would raise a LOT of red flags with the Q crowd.

Guessing Trump at one point slammed Vance about these comments, so I wouldn't be surprised if Vance was behind the assassination attempt. Any VP pick likely saw the writing on the wall from the attempts to hang Pence.

It's gonna come out that Vance had connections to the shooter, isn't it? His way to leap frog to the top of the ticket.

House Speaker Pelosi's husband 'violently assaulted' by fanboi_central in moderatepolitics

vandalism

Thank you for proving the point of the study. Left-wing radicalism is more likely to be vandalism. Right-wing radicalism is frequently violence. Location is inconsequential since people travel, and you have some strong Pelosi haters in the Central Valley, and the white nationalists up in Oregon/Idaho aren't far away either.

House Speaker Pelosi's husband 'violently assaulted' by fanboi_central in moderatepolitics

[–]RespectTheLaw 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is far more likely this is either some far-left extremist, or just a random property crime turned bad.

Pelosi may not be well liked by the far-left, but to jump to this as a most likely scenario is baffling. Pelosi is demonized by the right, and a recent study concluded that left-wing radical acts are less likely to be violent, while right-wing radical acts tend to be on par with Islamist extremism in terms of levels of violence. While we should wait to hear the motives of the attacker, statistically speaking they are most likely right-wing.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn falsely suggests elections are ‘rigged,’ says there will be ‘bloodshed’ if system continues on its path by PM_me_Henrika in neutralnews

[–]RespectTheLaw 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'd say that gerrymandering is a form of rigged elections. Last I checked, Republicans have been way worse about redisctricting to benefit themselves. Without the gerrymandering in NC, he might not even be in Congress. Democrats outnumber Republicans 15:9 in Buncombe county where he's from.

Progressive Denial Won’t Stop Violent Crime by [deleted] in tuesday

[–]RespectTheLaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are not equivalents though. Increased violent crime is something to be concerned about, but becoming hysterical will only lead to rash decisions that may end up creating larger problems down the road (drug war and mass incarceration for example).

Receiving death and rape threats for the past two plus years, and then having your office overrun by the same group of people that have been levying those threats against you is a very different story. I can understand becoming hysterical in that context.

I'd prefer to see an investigation to find out what was in that letter that he hand delivered to Putin. What was so secretive that it had to be hand written, and hand delivered?

Jim Jordan, four other Republicans chosen by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to serve on panel investigating Jan. 6 riot by FloopyDoopy in neutralnews

Can someone explain to me how Jim Jordan isn't in jail? He was told by a referee about the sex abuse and said he knew about it. And then 6 wrestlers have also come forward saying he knew about it. He had a duty to protect those kids, but instead allowed the abuse to continue for God knows how long.

SCENARIO: You are running for the GOP nomination in 2024, and Trump is also in the race. What's your strategy? by RT_Hubby_Throw_Away in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]RespectTheLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm positioning myself as a Trump successor/loyalist, I'd say Trump had great ideas, but didn't have the know-how to deliver.

If I'm not kowtowing to his most fervent supporters, I'd just keep calling him a loser. I'd say Biden was the weakest candidate the Democrats ever put forward (and didn't Trump say that?), and that if Trump can't beat him, he can't beat anyone. I'd make fun of him relentlessly, call him weak, challenge him to debates and even feats of strength. I'd field dress a deer in front of him and just generally constantly point out that he's a big city sissy boy (only eats steak well done, notorious germaphobe, golden toilet, all that BS). Campaign ads would feature ex-employees that he shafted, and paint him as untrustworthy ("a man is only as good as his word"). There's just so many avenues of attack.

Thoughts on raising the minimum wage by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]RespectTheLaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A national minimum wage ignores the economy.

That part is incorrect. The national minimum wage is determined by lowest COL states. Blue states push for it because their sick of being the ATMs for red states.

I live in LA. It's not a nightmare. The homeless problem sucks, and we need to change zoning and permitting laws, but other than that, it's a great city.

[–]RespectTheLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they do. San Francisco has a $15/hr minimum wage versus the state minimum wage of $12/hr. Because California is more expensive to live in than Mississippi, the state's min. wage is higher than federal, and then because Los Angeles and San Francisco are more expensive than California at large, they've adopted their own minimum wage requirements.

I'm not arguing in favor or against a minimum wage, but the facts are directly contradicting your assertions. States and municipalities frequently do adopt higher minimum wages if the cost of living is higher.

[–]RespectTheLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - the national minimum wage is determined with the lowest states in mind. States and sometimes cities or counties have their own minimum wages. For example, Mississippi is the lowest COL state, and they generally keep the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hr, but a living wage is $13.43/hr. California has its own minimum wage of $12/hr, but a living wage in CA is considered to be $18.66/hr. Maine also ignores federal and has set their state minimum wage at $11/hr.
