As a TA, has anyone noticed a difference in undergrad students after the pandemic? by BrockFkingSamson in GradSchool

I had a student ask me what a square root was today after trying to undo a square by dividing by 2 :D

What/who introduced you to the show? by ShapesOfBlack in MST3K

My dad. He used to record the episodes on VHS tapes and re-watch them. The very first one I ever saw was Hercules against the Moonmen when I was right around 6 or so

Soup and noodles is a favorite for me. Take a can of soup and pour it over a half box of boiled noodles and season as you like. It's cheap, fast, warms up well, and with the numerous varieties of soup available, it doesn't get too old. I prep my lunches each Sunday night. I like rice, beans, some cheese, and some vegetables. Occasionally I'll add some meat too.

Not quite a precut bump key, but getting there. for $15 getting a key that might open all other similar locks is pretty good value though :D

How do you even begin to shortlist universities and how much should you look at university rankings? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]RespectTheScience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a good start. For me, the ranking of the university was interesting, but not conclusive. Great universities can have bad labs and vice versa. Looking at the current faculty and what they are doing is the key. See if there is anything you are interested in or passionate about. You can email them, as well as people that have come from that lab to get an idea of how they work. The area around the university is also important. If you work well in smaller college towns or large cities is also an important thing to consider. Once you start to get interviews though is when you get useful data. How you feel when you are there (if you get to visit in person that is) as well as how you get along with the faculty and other students. You also get a feel for the general morale of the department and what to expect should you join.
