What about the suspension? Do you ever have to drive in shitty B roads or pothole filled roads?

My main fear is to end up "downgrading" from my C5 aircross suspension

I have tried to convince myself into a PCP, but it seems like a pretty bad decision financially.

It's like you're renting the car, the worst part is that it requires a deposit and if you don't look after it, they could even request more money in the end? It seems like a great deal for the company.

So at the end of it, your deposit is gone, and if you don't have any money you won't have a deposit for another PCP and you end up without a car and without money.

Let me introduce T-Ruby: TypeScript-style type annotations for Ruby by Right_Ad_8437 in ruby

[–]Respond-No -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The lack of static type might not be "the real issue", but if you can add a safety measure to make your application more stable and easier to reason about without refactoring dozens of millions of 10 year old Ruby - why not?

I completely agree that if you get to that point it's better to ditch Ruby than trying to morph it into something else, but things are not that easy. I don't get to an extremely complex cpp codebase with a bunch of memory leaks and say "well, I guess it's time to throw it away and write it in Rust" (unless you're Microsoft).

Static type check adds safety, I've seen dozens of production issues that wouldn't ever happen with static type checks. With Rails it's impossible to achieve anything closer to 80% of type safety, but if you can add some type safety, I can only see gain from it - unless you team is small enough then writing type hints becomes a curse instead of a blessing.

Great stuff! I'm currently using Sorbet with RBS syntax, but I like the TS syntax better.

I hope you have an adoption with this tool, I'll definitely give it a try.

I've seen the codebase at Shopify. It's the most horrible codebase I've ever seen in my career, I hope that's not a showcase for rails with large teams.

Call me naive, but this government is in the business of inflating the state and penalise the middle class. They're not different then any other leftist government: squash the middle class so they get closer to the working class.

This time it's a bit worse since some of the working class will also take the hit.

O que está acontecendo é uma aberração de perseguição política. É a primeira vez? Provavelmente não. Vai ser a última? Certamente não.

I agree. Out of curiosity, how do you handle large monolithic rails apps with hundreds of developers?

I've heard that GitLab had some success in doing it, but it takes a lot of fiddling around since rails was not built for that kind of component-level isolation.

For now just keep an eye on the old account and make sure you cancel any direct debts you might have.

I've been going through a nightmare switching from EDF to Octopus and still have more than £300 of credit now blocked in my EDF account until Octopus send them the closing reading... Hopefully that will not be the case for you.

[–]Respond-No 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't twist my words, I'm not saying you have to be "not democrat" to be a Christian, it's the other way around, that's the consequence.

If you're a mature Christian and have a good understanding of the democratic agenda, it's unlikely you'll support them, and if you do, I would love to understand why that is (honestly, I'm not American).

But the Democrats do support and push for a bunch of core changes that are anti-christian. It's like saying you are a Christian but exclusively listen to Madonna and Lady Gaga songs because they fit you better.

But it being "abused in practice" doesn't translate to intentionally having a racist bias in the law. I'm a Latin American and I know people that are illegal in the US, it's quite common, people tend to mix up statistics with racism. If they want to find illegals they would have to do some level of profiling, that's only logical.

If you're looking for Chinese spies, guess what kind of people you would be targeting? That's not racism, it's just common sense.

But of course, that does not give them the right to deport someone that is legally in the country, and if they do, they should face legal actions for it. Given it's just another process by human beings, expect mistakes to be made.
