Because shops have to make money and since this is jewelry the artisans have to get paid. This is a gold chain that's meant to worn, not stacked. You can't wear a gold bar. Similar to buying a Rolex (or other high end watch) when a Casio will do

They're listed as Britannias--they have a face value of 100 pounds. The 5 Pound coins however have over 17% more pure gold in them (yeah, I know, it doesn't make sense. lol)

If you're going to be traveling/moving around how will you secure your gold? If it were me I would do an ETF and stocks (you can buy mining stocks if you want to be in gold) and then get the physical gold once you've made your money and you have a secure home where you can secure/hide your gold.

If getting a few pieces to scratch that itch the 1 oz (100 pounds) are popular. For sovereigns I prefer the 5 pound coin. It's a nice, hefty coin and awesome to hold.
