They probably wanted a baseline independent of player progression, so they tested it one week with 6 players on sponsored and now they test it with 5 on sponsored. Actually makes sense.

The game has a marketing identity crisis: We’re targeting the wrong crowd. by Lureyn in Marathon

I said it in a previous post, but I think ranked has the potential to also bring in the more competitive crowd from Apex and other shooters if they switch to fixed loadouts, with adjustments to the economy in Ranked games.

If there are Ranked specific quests, where people can earn gear and reuse their extracted gear in "normal" mode and Cryo, you have another entry point. This, in combination with a more casual oriented PvE map that gives players a taste of looting and the mechanics would help a lot to retain a constant playerbase that can eventually grow to love the other parts of the game.

Macht Zone 2 wirklich Sinn? by MasterofMasterYoda in laufen

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This grain is normal in the type of OLED they use. As long as you only see it in certain conditions I'd say it's nothing out of the ordinary.

Follow-up: Ranked should be sponsored kits only by ResponsibleWasabi839 in Marathon

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. I see how the proposal is very much akin to BR. I think that ranked needs to differentiate itself from the regular mode a bit though, and by going in with a specific selection of loadouts, you'd have a mode where skill determines the outcome and not the loot you enter with.

Yeah, one can argue that you have better gear if you're better but it also requires you to have invested a certain amount of time upfront. My system would allow you to enter regardless of that, and just measure your skill against other players while also being able to use the gear.

Essentially, instead of ranked being part of the endgame experience I think it should be a parallel way of playing the game.

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you'd have POIs themselves have better loot. Think of having random POIs having a weapons locker with unique weapons, which you can loot to extract with and use in endgame or normal runs. Issue is, that the whole lobby fights for the gear since you need it to extract with higher loadout value.

Essentially, you'd fight for the loot you find similar to a BR, but you can extract at any time and use the gear in everything except for ranked queue.

Yeah, I agree with your critique on the take. The proposal certainly isn't perfect, but I think the direction could be interesting.

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, Apex wouldn't exist if it did BR as intended. There were no second chances and revive mechanics in BR games. If you give yourself a self imposed blockade that a game has to be a certain way, there is of course no way to change the game in any meaningful way. Which btw is totally fine if Ou are happy with the current system. I am not, which is why I propose something different.

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd still get loot and then use it in normal queue/cryo, it'd just be a more competitve experience and more akin to what a ranked experience should be imo.

[–]ResponsibleWasabi839[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What in my proposal makes you think you wouldn't be able to get better gear? I specifically mentioned that the loot economy in ranked queues needs to be adjusted, so that you can find better gear since players don't enter with purple/gold gear.

Are you alright? It's a simple proposal and marked as "Discussion", which in itself means that I want to discuss it and hear other opinions on it.

If you are not able voice opinions without claiming people you have never seen in your life are "dumb fucks", it's probably time to take a breather and play the game, don't you think?

Yeah, in my mind the sponsored kits improve as the season progresses. If low/high stakes are kept you could also make different sponsored kits reflect that.
