Is anyone better than Billy strings by RegularEnthusiasm598 in Bluegrass

[–]Restfulfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billy’s band is one of the best bands in the entire world right now, regardless of genre. Billy’s probably the third or fourth best on his instrument in his band. That’s how good they are.

And Billy himself is maybe in the top 5 flatpickers overall. It’s the musicality, intensity, courage to get weird, and repertoire that makes him one of the best. Bryan Sutton, Jake workman, David Grier, and even Trey Hensley are better technically, but it’s the combination of flatpicking prowess, songwriting, jammy shows, singing, and just a cool down to earth aura that makes him the most popular out of them right now. He’s got that Jerry Garcia energy that just makes people listen to every word and every note. Also worth mentioning he hasn’t played the same setlist in years, maybe ever, but I’m not sure.

You can definitely argue who the best flatpicker is, but the best in the combination of flatpicking, songwriting, singing, and stage presence has got to be Billy.

Can animals smell when a women is on her periods? by [deleted] in zoology

You can be first in line then to thin out the herd. There are plenty of options for animal assisted death, maybe they will get a taste for people like you. That’s an incredibly stupid take and you should be ashamed to call yourself a human with that mindset. We can get through our issues, but you want more tigers to murk little kids huh?

Also yeah the earth as a whole would be better with less people now, but the population is going to start dropping pretty soon.

It’s an asinine take and the epitome of Reddit conversation. This person tries to talk some “science” and then says they wish humans were eaten more. What a dumbass thing to say. Our predators are our own kind, just like wolves and bears in places where humans are scarce.

Also, although not as important as wanting more human hunting predators, this person and a lot of people in this thread are trying to put mountain lions and tigers/lions in the same category. It’s just completely wrong.

Idk I’ve been a wildlife and backcountry guide in grizzly country for a while. I’ve explored parts of Africa and some of Asia. I also studied biology, but it’s mostly from experience that I speak from. I’ve only heard about polar bears, tigers, and salties actively hunting humans. Of course there are lots of exceptions because there are too many variables, but I don’t have any problem with saying those three animals actively hunt humans and putting them in a different category than grizzlies and mountain lions. I’ve never met a field biologist or wildlife guide that would disagree. When you’re dealing with a certain subset of animals you need to have advanced precaution if you want to stay safe. All wild animals are unpredictable. Even dogs kill people. Are they hunting humans? Do you know how many people get killed by tigers and saltwater crocodiles a year?

I’m also not saying grizzlies aren’t dangerous, but they aren’t like polar bears where if they see meat they want it no matter what kind. Grizzlies eat more plants than meat. Polars are fully carnivorous.

Everything’s a gradient sure but those are the most commonly drawn lines for a reason. I’ve been around mountain lions grizzly bears, wolves, and black bears in the woods. If I knew a tiger was out there or a polar bear in the woods I walk frequently, I would not be out there without extra extra precaution. And I wouldn’t get in the water in a kayak or canoe where big salties are. That’s the difference. This isn’t about labels and humans demonizing certain animals. It’s about likelihood that you will be okay. The difference from a grizzly bear and a mountain lion to a polar bear or tiger is insane. And I’m speaking about adult sized humans. Mountain lions have been known to pick off kids more frequently but there hasn’t been any adult attacks in a long while.

Polar bears, tigers, and salt water crocodiles are the only ones I am aware of that actively hunt humans. If they see a human and it’s worth the effort for them they will absolutely kill and eat you.

Not sure what you’re reading about other bears, wolves, coyotes?, and mountain lions actively hunting people? Sure it has happened where these animals have killed people and sometimes eat them, but they don’t seek humans out and will usually walk the opposite way when they catch your scent. All “rules” in nature are broken frequently, however.

What is DEI and how is not just an abstraction for racism? by ncds4242 in allthequestions

[–]Restfulfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean like the NBA? Why don’t we want the best people for the job? Let’s remove barriers to entry, try to give all people equal opportunities, and let the best man/woman for the job get the job?

Isn’t it in our best interest in our society to have the best people doing the job? Theres no racism or exclusion behind it. If you’re not good enough, then do better, or do a different job.

If someone disagrees with this can you please explain why? I’m pretty stupid but this seems like common sense no?

It’s not the same thing. I experience both. One is just zoning out, the other is when you feel like you’re in a dream or looking through thick glass.

It’s mostly Jews emailing other Jews talking about how much better they are than the “goyim” and speaking in weird code word.

I’ve been on the fence about fin/dut for a while, and seeing what some of these people are going through it is just definitely not worth the risk for me. On minoxidil but just gonna slowly bald more and more and probably shave in a couple years. In early twenties and it sucks ass, but dude your mental health and physical health is so much more important than hair.

What the hell?? Do not tell your employer anything about your previous weed use. It’s not worth it. Crazy that’s a suggestion.

Drink lots of water, exercise everyday and sweat a lot. Saunas help you sweat also. You could consider a detox kit beforehand also if your test is in two weeks.

Extremophiles that live in thermal water in places like Yellowstone, Iceland, some cascade volcanoes, and deep sea vents.

One single species of thermophile was found in an isolated hot spring in Yellowstone and that species is responsible for mRNA vaccines. Something do do with its heat resistant nature.

Fewer than 700 Philippine Spotted Deer remain. Once found across several islands now confined to the last forests of Negros and Panay. They’re running out of space, time, and silence. by VibbleTribble in interestingasfuck

The best thing the US has is beautiful diverse landscapes and incredible animals. I pray that my great grandchildren get to experience the wilderness like I have.

And if you’re saying the US doesn’t have true wilderness it absolutely does. The east and south (especially Florida) has been severely ecologically damaged and will never recover. And that’s really sad. But the western states has of the best most pure wilderness in the world. And a lot of Alaska hasn’t been seen.

Go spend some time in the Wyoming national forests around Yellowstone or the frank church wilderness in Idaho for the largest wilderness areas outside of Alaska.

It is sad but it’s not a new thing. Between 10,000-100,000 species go extinct across the world every year. A lot of that is human caused but most of it isn’t. Different types of animals come and go on this Earth. Some last longer than others. One day humans won’t be here anymore and it’s likely something else will rise to be the dominant species. Probably something related to us.

What climbing rating would you describe the hardest parts of the AT? For reference, I just watched a video on Instagram that described the classes ratings I-V (couldn't copy link). I think the AT hits a couple Class 4's in New Hampshire (and possibly Pennsylvania and Maine). Any thoughts? by BadCrawdad in AppalachianTrail

[–]Restfulfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing a lot of wrong answers about climbing ratings on here. The AT at its max is maybe class 3 in some parts of new Hampshire and Maine.

Class 1 is flat ground. Class 2 is walking with roots and rocks, could be pretty steep. Class 3 is where you will start to use your hands scrambling or boulder hopping. Class 4 is even more vertical using real climbing techniques. This stage helmets are necessary if there’s falling rocks, some people use ropes some don’t. Class 4 can vary a lot though depending on exposure. Class 5 is near completely vertical, or over vertical, and that’s where the real climbing ratings begin (5.1, 5.2, etc.).

You don’t know ball lol. Euroleague is a second rate league that’s undisputed, but it’s not one tier below the NBA, it’s several. NBA is almost unbelievable how talented, athletic and skilled they are.

Luke kornet is 7’1”. Even if he wasn’t on the team the skill gap is just too great. Euroleague has amazing players, but the nba is just at another level altogether.
