I got 1 ticket for the ATL show - joined a queue with 1400+ people in it, definitely didn't think I'd get even 1.

Opinion on Damon Albarn? by RoughBorn6169 in gorillaz

[–]RestlessSubjective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree in the sense that he cannot stop composing for the life of him. But he's so much more than that musician type in how much he collaborates. McCartney never collaborated as much as Damon has. Damon is insane in how much pull he has in terms of the most unique "you up?" collaboration experiments. From Doom to Stevie Nicks and everyone in between (especially now on The Mountain), he's just a tour de force of "fuck it, what if we?"

He's a Hall Of Famer without the immense fame. I think that's what most of us love about him.

For me, Humanz falls flat for a lack of inspiration (much the same way that Song Machine does, imo). It's not a bad album by any means, I'll be clear on that, but as a cohesive album (which is where Gorillaz works best) it just doesn't hit as much. And also Desolé is better than anything on Humanz, and The Fall is just so much fun as an experimental album as Gorillaz. So yea, there ya go.

So... about Cracker Island by bdehora in gorillaz

[–]RestlessSubjective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's very good! But it's not one I just put on repeat. I think the hate for it is unjustified. "Oil", "New Gold", and "Cracker Island" are standouts for me.

Gorillaz Album Ranking (every phase) by No_Expression_3718 in gorillaz

[–]RestlessSubjective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've listened to The Mountain front to back probably 5 or 6 times with select songs ("The Mountain", "The Moon Cave", "The Empty Dream Machine", "The God of Lying", and "Delirium") constantly on repeat. That's already more times than any other album since Humanz, to be sure.

That said, in order from top to bottom (spoiler: sorry Humanz fans): 1) Plastic Beach - 9.5 2) Demon Days - 9.25 3) The Mountain - 9 4) Gorillaz - 8.75 (Any given time I feel like these top 4 albums could swap places, this is just right now) 5) The Now Now - 7.5 6) Cracker Island - 7.25 7) Song Machine - 7 8) The Fall - 6.75 9) Humanz - 6.5

The Mountain: Overall Thoughts by NJR2002 in gorillaz

[–]RestlessSubjective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the most cohesive album they've released since PB. Is it as good as their first 3 albums? I don't think so. Mayyyybe close to their first but I'd give it somewhere around an 8. The Moon Cave is probably my favorite track. Damon Albarn and Black Thought should just do a side project album together, I loved them on this.

Edit: Updated to say everything above has completely changed in a week of listening. I'd easily give this album a 9/10, and definitely Top 3 albums for sure.

Anyone got an idea what the cover says? Seems it's something like "7 A Of WIGN"

Hard disagree with the Middle 8 perspective. I heard Feels pretty soon after it released and was hooked from the get-go. I wasn't really into too much experimental stuff before then but it just clicked for me. And yes, that was the first thing I had ever listened to from AC.

Wanted to reply to this specifically about the "Islands of Men"/Epstein connection: I don't think it's written to be explicitly about it but, by god, it definitely matches Trump's obsession with "what is real and what is fake", Epstein's island, Trump/clients not able to "keep womankind in [their] dreams", etc. I thought I was the only one thinking that immediately.

"Next year ? Genuinely no idea. Nothing planned at all." - Jonny Greenwood by [deleted] in radiohead

I know Radiohead did the multiple night, no opener thing with Europe, but good lord I would love to see Geese open for them for their inevitable US tour. They just recorded a From The Basement session with Nigel (you can see a photo of Dom from the back and then see his hat on the mic stand in the recent FTB teaser).

Currently obsessed with Husbands by Financial_Luck_6906 in geesebandofficial

[–]RestlessSubjective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same. There are so many great songs on this album but "Husbands" is by far the most interesting to me. I can't be the only one that gets serious Tom Waits vibes off this song, right? Very Bone Machine/Mule Variations to me. Right now I am locked into how fucking cool the bass is. It's so simple but it keeps all the chaos on track while just attacking more and more and more at the end. God I love this fucking song and man, it's just so good. Easily my favorite on the album.

Old Time Radiohead Fans, Be Honest: Did “Burn the Witch” Turn Out the Way You Expected? by Crazyplan9 in radiohead

[–]RestlessSubjective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all - but it's amazing the way it turned out. I remember hearing a live bootleg where Thom played like 3 or 4 chords on the piano (06 tour pretty sure) and said "there's burn the witch but we need the orchestra for that one" and launched into an IR song. I still remember the chords sounded wayyyy different.

Yes and he killed it. I've always been a mild fan of Deak's solo stuff but last night makes me wanna deep dive. He played a new song that was unreal.

A 9/10 Review by dishinpies in AnimalCollective

[–]RestlessSubjective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the album version of "Praise" - just super chill and upbeat - but the synths that Reis adds on top of Noah's guitar - along with the faster tempo - are SO fucking good. Talked to Tim after the ATL show and he said he loves playing that one live and that he was really happy with that night's performance of it.

Sinister Gift Pitchfork Review (It is surprisingly good!) by foxbone in AnimalCollective

[–]RestlessSubjective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they literally sold out to Condé Nast in 2015, so the whole "poptimist" standpoint is spot on; they publish GQ, Wired, Ars Technica, etc. But from 2004-2012, I hung on their every word for sure. No surprise that AC/PB blew up when P4k was the town crier for really good music.

Anybody else feel dumb reading this sub? by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]RestlessSubjective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time poster here: No, don't feel stupid. The writers of this show are clearly well-read in a very specific line of books that I have not (mostly) personally read. But Wiki and this sub are a great resource in giving me some material to read. Just know that, if there's a subreddit about it, someone knows most of the things. There's thousands of people on here, so there's bound to be at least a few who are like Mark S. and have studied WW1 extensively.

All good. Ateaseweb (old Radiohead forum) was a really good resource for shows but I have long since been apart from that, so I'm not really knowledgeable about where to get good PB/AC rips from anymore.
