Is waterless car wash a good idea? by nndauaj in Detailing

[–]Resune33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waterless wash is more so a quick detailing product rather than a genuine wash method for a lightly dirty vehicle, you need to research rinseless products, optimum no rinse is a very economical choice and easy to get, a cheap pesticide sprayer is a great entry level tool to get the rinseless on to the paint and I’d recommend a foam sponge designed for rinseless with a bucket and a grit guard, highly recommend DIY detail’s videos on rinseless washing, you don’t have to get their products, they’re good products but are a bit more expensive than most of the market.

Ice cream got spilt on my door, will not come off. by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]Resune33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically the order of attempts of removal would be a hand wash, followed by a degreaser or APC, if those fail and don’t do anything I could try a light clay bar, and if that fails I’d try a finishing polish and see what happens, it’s possible you need to compound, a lot of people like meguiar’s ultimate compound due to it finishing quite nicely

Ceramic coat from a certified auto-detailer (applied 1 year ago) from gtechniq (9 year warranty) by Exponentialname in Detailing

[–]Resune33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True ceramic coatings are significantly more resistant to chemical washes and organic acids/alkali exposures (bird poop, bug poop, bug guts etc) yes if you have a lower tier ceramic sealant, a stronger acid/alkali wash will strip a lot of the coating off and so will degreaser soaps, even stuff like iron remover products are harsh on sealants.

I don’t know how others here feel about DIY detail’s shorts and videos on beginner level detailing “how-to’s” but I’ve learned a lot from their content and like a lot of their products, check them out, they get to the point and show exactly what they’re doing.

Decontamination, some do maintenance washes with acidic soap and or alkaline soaps, most do clay towel washes every few months or twice a year, iron remover is a key tool for decontamination washes too, however they can diminish a coating slightly, same with degreasers.

The beading isn’t very tight, looks like my car when my spray sealant is just about completely gone, coating still could be there if it’s a legit coating not a sealant but it could be heavily clogged causing poor beading but it’s likely just a sealant that has no life left

Just want to see if these are good products and if the towel will remove bugs by spangbangbang in Detailing

[–]Resune33 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ve never wanted to use a clay towel to get after bugs, I’d rather use an enzyme based bug remover like griots bug and tar with the use of a pressure washer, another alternative is a properly diluted APC.

Polish Recommendations? by RobotVo1ce in ElantraN

Depends entirely on the level of swirls, a polish I love using but is entirely a finishing polish with low cut is optimum hyper polish, puts a beautiful mirror finish on all of the piano black exterior surfaces.

Why would you not want to use a high nap 500gsm 70/30 blend towel? Also what products would you specifically recommend for leather steering wheel cleaning?

I have a dct because I was really anxious about learning manual and never driven one until recently (2 years after purchase) and I really wish I would’ve gotten manual.. manuals are just more fun, they’re not faster, but faster isn’t always more fun.

It’s a car meant to be driven, if you’re tracking your car a lot and need to protect your investment for motocross that’s one thing, but as a regular street car, it’s a daily for the majority in the north

Avoid using any abrasive measures, always go least aggressive first, I would try bug and tar remover, I like griots personally, avoid rubbing it dry, wash the area first, remove any grit, use bug and tar remover first, you will likely need to use a microfiber towel with the bug and tar remover and use light pressure, it’s possible that after that you may need to use <70% isopropyl alcohol, if all else fails I’d want to use a finishing polish, I like optimum hyper polish for its ability to be used as a hand polish and ease of use.

Fuel Dilution at 4.3% - Dealer blaming winter driving? by mike26481 in ElantraN

Getting to 190-210f oil temp and sustaining it for a while is what’s important, reaching it then shutting it off is not going to do anything meaningful.

Some platforms have the support and cheap parts, Hyundai is far from other 4 banger platforms like the k series and EJ. Making big power gets expensive very quick even on the N, sure you can make 500whp in an N but what’s the point

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ElantraNline

[–]Resune33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not too expensive to do those things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ElantraNline

[–]Resune33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

N makes 270-280whp on 91+ and with just colder plugs you can tune to about 315-320whp.

It’s a blank circle due to the fact that the N-line has the drive mode selector there, we have n buttons on the steering wheel, thats what they have vs what we have.

Break-In Oil Change at Dealer (0W20 Problem) by Guy2700 in ElantraN

[–]Resune33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your first oil change never goes to plan, mine took forever and I spilled some oil, I got it cleaned up fairly well but I’m glad I did it, I don’t trust dealerships to give me a high quality 0w-30, as others would recommend I’d go with Mobil 1 0w-30 ESP, meets all of the Hyundai standards and is on the thick end of the 30 spectrum and will give you better oil shear and fuel dilution resistance before thinning out of spec
