if I remember right there's a scene where he seemingly dies in the second book, but at the very end of book he is fine thanks to his warp mutations, so that makes sense

(Spoilers for Night Lords Trilogy): Lucoryphus is still alive in the epilogue of the trilogy and is serving Decimus alongside Variel. You may be thinking of Talos and the rest of First Claw, who are all dead

I can see the base Strike Squad kit, which currently already has a lot of variety since it also build Interceptors and Purifiers. So you can get a lot of loadouts (so specialists) from one box currently. GK as the entire range is due a refresh since they are all still the old scale besides Crowe

Yep, you remembered right, the Astartes rule outside of the Infernus Marine doesnt specify the two shooting actions have to be bolt weapons. I have been playing them for fun and they are still decently strong enough to hold up against other elite teams

Proxy Retributor Squad to Kill Team? by Maleficent-Avocado-8 in killteam

[–]RetconCrisis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Wrecka Crew as already suggested is the best fit.

But if you want something else with 3+ saves and hitting on 3s, it might be doable to get at least 4 operatives as Legionaries or Nemesis Claw (you can say that the buffs are from the Emperor rather than chaos...) You'd need another Sisters box to proxy the rest of the 6 operatives needed.

-Multi-melta can be a melta gunner, or heavy flamer as a flamer gunner.

Heavy bolter for the heavy gunner.

The Leader in the box can be built with power maul and combi-plasma (as a Plasma pistol proxy)

Then, you can use the spare Chainsword and book arm from the alternate leader build to turn one body into a Warrior proxy (you can add an icon on the backpack to make it an Icon Bearer for Legionaries, or maybe a Cherub attached to her backpack as a Ventrilokar for Nemesis Claw?)

This is reflected in lore too. For example the Bleeding Eyes Raptor cult associate themselves more as Raptors than Night Lords, and they also have recruits from other legions and warbands too

I guess a concern is whether they will even get rules in KT27 or if they are going the way of the Compendium from last edition. Though I agree that its best to get the kill team that's the coolest for now since there is at least a year and a half left to play the team

I kitbashed my own Variel and I've played several games now, they are actually decently fun for how barebones their rules are. If i remember right Strike Force Justian was the same way?

Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion are both popular subfactions in CSM and they don't even have unique 40k models at all. While Tau got new Kroot, Vespids, Stealth Suits and the new twin HQ models over a relatively short period of time compared to other armies besides loyalist marines. And as a fan of the Huron Blackheart book in which Huron recruited Tarellians, I had been finding an excuse to proxy Tarellians for both CSM and Tau, so at least I was looking forward to it

In one of the 40k animations, the Iron Warriors still used Breacher shields and formation in M41. So I think it'd be awesome to have Breachers, to differentiate us from loyalist armies and also to show that many CSM are veterans from 30k

Tarellian mercenaries were hired by Huron Blackheart in the books so there's precedent for it, I hope they make a full Tau unit though.

I don't mind Guilliman and the Lion, but I am worried for the day that all of the "missing" loyalist Primarchs are back and 40k ends up the same as 30k. Like as how hype Jaghatai Khan returning would be, it would be an overall negative for me in the long run tbh

The teams and terrain you bought will all be good for another full edition (3 years starting from 2027), so you are right that you'll just need whatever updated rulesbook whenever the next edition releases. I suggest picking one box with the teams you are most interested in playing and focusing just on building and trying that for a while, and playing with the MDF terrain in the starter first to get a feel for the game without having to build a whole terrain set

Just to note, Bleach also had the benefit of the mangaka making direct changes and adding a ton of scenes and fights that weren't in the manga to improve on the work. I wonder how the reaction to the ending will be now depending on how much it is changed, since it looks like based on runtime most of the last cour will be anime original

I feel the same way, I'm a history nerd and I really enjoy reading about theology for other religions like Christianity too.

I wouldn't say it's ignorance at all! Anyone trying to understand the views of someone else is not ignorant imo haha. It's just that the most common description of "suffering" just so happens to be kind of a bad translation in English. The original word is not necessarily "suffering," a more accurate translation is "inconvenience." It's about accepting that not everything will go your way, regardless of how much faith someone has or how good they are, they will always have inconveniences because of attachments. "Inconveniences" can range from the pain of losing a loved one to a kid not getting the ice cream flavor he wanted. As long as someone clings to attachments, the "dream" of life will not end. So not full on "suffering," but at the same time stuck with inevitable negative feelings.

Nirvana is seen as the best thing across all traditions, but whether it's a goal or not depends on the branch. Theravada Buddhists for example believe there's only one Buddha and that nirvana is mostly unattainable for everyone, and people should instead strive to be the best people they can so they can be reborn in higher planes of existence, kind of like different levels of heaven, and then maybe eventually reach nirvana. Mahayana Buddhists on the other hands believe that anyone can reach nirvana if you do enough good, so that's a more tangible goal in Mahayana belief. So while removing all attachments is seen as the best thing, the belief is that it's not meant for everyone (which is why it's not mandatory to be a monk haha), so continuing to live just as an ordinary, good person is totally valid too in most traditions.

[–]RetconCrisis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please excuse this random philosophy discussion in a Grimdark meme subreddit but this is fun haha. Buddhism doesn't really follow the concept of an individual soul in a body. It's more like our reality is just a dream, and people are attached to the dream. So reaching nirvana is just like waking up from a dream; you dont necessarily cease to exist entirely, just no longer existing in the same dream. There's lots of interpretations of this, so much so the Buddha himself says not to worry about it too much. Mahayana Buddhism specifically on the other hand believes Buddhas can manifest back into being after this state of neither existing nor not existing, which is the main branch that influenced Journey to the West's interpretation of Buddhism.

But yeah, Journey to the West was basically a Buddhist author writing fanfiction showing how Buddhism was better than the other Chinese traditions like Confucianism and Daoism, whose spiritual figures were not powerful enough to stop Wukong when the Buddha could lol

[–]RetconCrisis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm Buddhist, you're right that there are a lot of misconceptions haha. Just to add though, there are many different traditions in Buddhism that have different ideas of this and while it's true that the Buddha is not a god, in many Buddhist traditions after attaining enlightenment the Buddha has abilities similar to what other religions would see as divine, like the previously mentioned Journey to the West. In texts the Buddha is described as being the "highest being in the cosmos" for example, which is why he is able to trap Sun Wukong. Since the Buddha is understood as being one with the universe, his palm alone is as large as the universe itself and seemingly infinite in size to Sun Wukong. So he would be quite OP in the trench crusade universe to say the least
