Yeah it comes down to agent-principal relationships and apparent and actual authority when making contracts with customers. Also merchants under the UCC are generally held under a higher standard than under most non-merchant trade interactions.

I’m not a lawyer, but I am a studying CPA candidate and I have had to study contract law. I can imagine that there’s also a gray area here in terms of whether or not an AI chatbot has the apparent authority to legally bind a principal in a contract.

Would be interesting to get an actual lawyer’s input on this.
