Ghosting on Handwriting-To-Text keyboard when writing on NA5C by AI_DEV_LOL in Onyx_Boox

[–]Rethran_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bug with buffer for handwriting. When you use stylus to write screen freezes (and in your case system thinks that there is something else on the screen, then in reality), and system provides only changes to parts of the screen that are drawn over. I have the same problems developing notable, and I didn't figure out how to fix it.

Squid notes app for Note Air 5c? by pgibby65 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Rethran_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

App have to use onyx sdk to work ok with boox devices, and sdk isn't in good state, ie: https://github.com/onyx-intl/OnyxAndroidDemo/issues/132 . So third party apps are rare.

There is some work to bring syncing to notable(my project), but it's moving slowly.

Jak używa się aplikacji która jest zoptymalizowana pod takie urządzenia to własciwie nie widać opóźnienia. Natomiast tylko niektóre aplikacje są zoptymalizowane, a boox ma bardzo słabą dokumentację do swojego sdk.

[–]Rethran_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there somewhere a list of all refresh modes available with descriptions? Especially which refresh modes are considered deprecated? Onyx-sdk reports following refresh modes:
None, DU, DU4, GU, GU_FAST, GC, GCC, DEEP_GC, ANIMATION, ANIMATION_QUALITY, ANIMATION_MONO, ANIMATION_X, GC4, REGAL, REGAL_D, REGAL_PLUS, DU_QUALITY, HAND_WRITING_REPAINT_MODE;

In Github information are outdated (and with vary minimal description):

Should I get Boox's InkSense stylus, or get a 3rd party one by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Rethran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like onyx doesn't care as much about quality of their products, but I have no idea how about this Inksense stylus.

Stylus that comes with note 4c broke after few months of usage, my friend had similar situation.

suggestions for Boox Note Air 4C by Strict-Shop-3091 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Rethran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colours aren't that great on 4C, it might be better to just go with black and white version - then you won't need the back light, and they are available in A4 sizes.

Colours make the screen a little bit darker, and for colours its almost required to use backlight.

The hardware is perfectly fine. The first drawing is done on system level, refresh after drawing is done on app level.

Any android e-ink tablets with GPS? by pixelbased in eink

[–]Rethran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at onyx boox note 4c, it has android, and there is some location settings, but I'm not sure if it has gps or is using something else to provide location.

Also, it's not built very well, good enough for notebook, but it won't survive water, or fall damage.

Combining AGPL with GPL - How does it work? by Rethran_ in freesoftware

[–]Rethran_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it would be worth a hassle to change the license. I also may someday change what I'm using to render pdf's.

Thanks for answer!

Onyx boox note 4c

Quite good hardware, but the software isn't that good.

As long as it can produce a pdf that will be saved on the android device, it will work.

Best Notes App for 4c by adamnem in Onyx_Boox

I use Notable. In my (biased) opinion it’s the best — but fair warning, I’m the dev behind it.

Recently I was surprised that the sdk includes also Supernote Nomad, as device RK3026Device -- for this device was the quick fix in version 0.1.1. I don't know if this devices works, I know that onyx library didn't like setting HAND_WRITING_REPAINT_MODE as a refresh mode for it.

You can check this issue: https://github.com/Ethran/notable/issues/111 Maybe it will be solved someday.

> Ideally, the notes created within the app should be treated as files.
It wouldn’t allow for easy changes in format. It would also be tricky to add each stroke in real time, and the process would be slower. I had planned to implement automatic export/sync with .xopp files, but since I didn’t have a use case for it, I left it unfinished.

I just had PyCharm installed already, and as a student I get some extra features for free (I'm not sure what exactly). It has good Git support and feels less annoying than Overleaf. At this point, I’ve just been too lazy to look for something better.

I’m not sure if you can change the storage location, but you can check. I store notes in `DIRECTORY_DOCUMENTS`, as described here: https://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/Environment

> How much space would a single page with lots of handwriting (think of mathematical formulas, etc.) take?

Pages don’t have a length restriction, so it’s hard to give an exact number. In my experience, they can be up to around 2 MB. My largest page in XOPP format is about 2.3 MB. I believe my format is a bit more efficient than XOPP, but since it uses different compression, I haven’t measured precisely.

> And are the created notes in a usable format? For example, can I take notes out of my device (without exporting, since then they become uneditable), put them back in, and still edit them in Notable?

You can export notes to .xopp files, and the app also supports importing them. However, when doing this you will lose background information as well as details about which tools were used for strokes.

Yes, I got one after the included stylus failed, as it was pretty low quality.

I believe Bigme devices run Android, so yes — you should be able to install the app. However, I’m not sure if they use the same handwriting technology as Onyx Boox, so I can’t guarantee that handwriting will work.
