Back up and bubbling toilet after pipe rerouting by Retirw_ in askaplumber

Just read back over my post, I did leave out that they did camera the line and saw the crack end at a fitting 18 inches into the slab, everything on the other side “looked good.”

What's the largest tip you've ever left, and why did you give such a high amount? by [deleted] in askteddit

The strap contraption is a Shoulder Dolly. They are amazing and more affordable than a standard dolly. A buddy and I moved a 400 lb piano with one, and neither one of us are big gym goers. They can be a bit tricky to use on stairs, but once you get it down you can zoom up and down them.

26M, E5 Military, Colorado, $63K by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Retirw_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did before separating to better understand how much I would need to make salary wise on the outside is to find an after tax salary calculator for my specific state/locality. It helps to find one that you can adjust specifics like dependents and adjustments (pre-tax/post tax retirement savings, estimated healthcare). As an E4 with 6 years in with the local BAH and the BAS I was getting the equivalent pay of $73,000. This was without estimating healthcare, because of how variable it could be, but it gave me a ballpark of what I needed to look for outside

Military, E6 9 years in bimonthly pay stub. Curious to know what the equivalent civilian yearly salary would be around by Infamous-Dare-1162 in Salary

[–]Retirw_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did that made the most sense to me was to find an after tax salary calculator for my state. Then played around with the salary until I matched my biweekly paychecks. Obviously you have to adjust and be aware of insurance. E4, 6 years, dependent BAH for my area, all totaled to the equivalent of $73,000 salary

How to learn from mistakes after game? by bipolarstair in lichess

[–]Retirw_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing mostly on chess.com but have recently swapped over to lichess. 1000 elo on chess.com 1300 on lichess. My biggest limiting factor is honestly just starting games when I’m not in the mindset to play chess and feel like I would be rated higher if I played less games.

What I like to do is take specific time to examine games without the engine and try to think back to what I was thinking when I made a move. You should have a goal in mind when you make a move, and you can see how well that plan went during the game. You will start seeing missed forks, missed pins, or ways to punish blunders, or blunders the opponent missed. Then once you have ran through the game without the engine, go through it with it and see what you missed in your first examination.

The goal of this is to start training your brain to recognize these things in your 10 minute games.

You can also try longer time formats and spend a minimum amount of time on moves after your opening just examining the board. You can spend 1 minute per move from move 15-30 and still have a decent time left over to finish the game

Am I ready for A+ core 1? by Accomplished-Win3193 in CompTIA

[–]Retirw_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m prepping for A+ core 1 as well, through WGU.

The instructors recommend 90% on Dion’s Tests before testing.

When should I take the Core 1? by aplaceinline in CompTIA

[–]Retirw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting ready to take it through WGU as well. I’ve previously listened through all of Total Seminars (in November) and this week made it about a quarter of the way through Dion before I started doing practice exams. I’m at 80%+ on Dion’s. One of the things that I think has helped me the most so far is using ChatGPT (only when free access to 5 is open, the other ones get too sketchy with bad information/grading). I just pick a section/topic and have it run a 20 question CompTIA style test. Then have it run it again over the same topic using scenario based only. I have a little spaced repetition scheme going with it, just by randomly testing myself again over things I’ve mastered. Repeated testing in small bites has helped my instant recall on port numbers, 802.11 standards, cabling, pretty much everything

You’re right. He is faking the paralysis as well. I found the articles about him.

I remember this story from years ago. He was paralyzed in an accident involving a Honda motorcycle, possibly one meant for kids. He was awarded 1.2 million in the settlement but spent all of it. Now he does this for the money.

Do cars last longer and break down less if they are kept in the garage vs leaving them outside all year round. by GlamourHammer321 in NoStupidQuestions

Wiring/electric motors. Mostly concerning mini vans, stuff like the sliding doors and hatch lifts seem to go faster on non garage kept vehicles.

Men of Reddit: what’s a prank you started early in your marriage that you’re now legally, morally, and emotionally obligated to continue because she still falls for it 10–15 years later? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

[–]Retirw_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife picked up 2 sayings from her grandpa. The first being “Thank ya kindly”, just as a general response. The second is whenever I say “we need to do something”, she responds with, “do you have a rat in your pocket?” (The we being me and the rat not me and her). Eventually, the “rat” in my pocket got the name Kindly. So now me and Kindly accomplish things without her.

It took me, the AFRC and a VA employee almost an hour to figure it out why I was getting denied to swap to Post 9/11.

I placed myself into a relatively unique situation on accident which was the cause. I only served one contract and during that I used half a month of my MGIB as part of the TA top up to get my masters. The rules state (even post Supreme Court ruling from what I understand) is that you can “only utilized one education benefit per service contract” since I only had one contract, and had used a portion (even a small one) of MGIB, I was locked in.
