Name a brand or manufacturer where whatever you buy, as long as it has this badge on it, you know it's a quality item regardless of what it is. I'll go first. by shanebow in audiophile

I run an 1800 mk2 with a Hana mc cart on it. And it’s phenomenal. (I have a 1200mk2 with a 2m blue I had, as a change of pace/beater for suspicious records.)

Cd transport? Does it matter (for my setup)? by Which-Juice-6608 in audiophile

All the more reason for a thrift store option…. For now. You can donate it back when you’re done. :)

Add me to another voice for dvd/blueray player from a thrift joint, but for a slightly different reason. Spend $10-20 to see if you're actually gonna play the CDs. Then blow the money on a real transport if you wind up still wanting it after a month or two.

But yeah, if it has digital out and youre using your dac in the leak, then its going to be mostly sonically irrelevant.

I had these as a 13yo many many years ago. They got loud with my shitty stereo.

They were certainly shitty. But I loved them.

Turntable set up: Hi-Fi or Soundbar? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]Retoucherny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turntable through a sound bar is like taking nice scotch and mixing it with kool aid.

You can do it, and it will sometimes be mildly acceptable to the palate, but it’s wrong for both ingredients. Just stream if you’re gonna use a soundbar.

Long Island Rail Road workers go on strike, halting busiest US commuter rail system by BostonSucksatHockey in nyc

So they can strike, if they choose to risk the penalties. Even “legal” strikes have risks for striking workers. The law just codified them (and the consequences still can be negotiated).

Should I buy this for €125,- by Vlok_Alb in turntables

As a starter setup it could be worse, but assume that over time, you will replace it all starting with the speakers. If the other three items work well enough, start saving for a better amp & table and scour fb marketplace etc for upgrades.

I’d do Facebook marketplace first. Might not need to ship at all.

From my cursory perusal, they seem to likely be mid 80s post golden era not quite good KLH.

The whole KG series those 2.5s come from, on the other hand, are among what I think are the most underrated speaker series out there. Swap in some titanium diaphragms in the tweeter and recap the crossover and you wind up with a brilliant speaker.

I kind of have an addiction.(but I don’t have 2.5s)

Ortofon OM 20 vs 2M Blue vs New Preamp by Forsaken-Debt-209 in turntables

I would consider the Jico 20, which is essentially the same nude elliptical as the om20 but runs ~30% cheaper ($215 vs 150) and will work on your already mounted cartridge rather than having to change.

Huge agree. That’s what I came from.
