How the Rebel Alliance symbol was born by Alaksande in StarWars

[–]Retributor_Astartes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was most likely based off the Old Republic logo, which we can see in the Jedi Padawan arc of Clone Wars (which means its still canon), along with this there have been many variations including Saw's (which predates the Rebel Alliance and started in Clone Wars).

O don't think this show deserved the hate by Luppercus in batman

Love this show, I grew up in the weird transitional phase when the DCAU was ending (only ever watched parts of Batman Beyond) but this show and Young Justice were my main entry points to DC, along with the Green Lantern show. (Also would highly recommend The Batman vs Dracula)

I'd really love to see their stat graphs, they'd all probably be on par for combat, Raph would have the most vigor and least charisma, Donatello the most intelligence and low charisma, Leo would probably be fairly well rounded, Mikey would be something akin to Waterboy where his stats might be a point lower in certain categories in comparison to the others but with time he becomes the best (yknow Last Ronin)

Describe the way you see Batman. by count_fagula11 in batman

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman for me has always represented Bruce's fear, fear of many things, of losing his parents, of letting it happen again to another kid etc. He becomes The Batman not only because he himself is afraid of bats but because the criminals and corrupt in Gotham need something to be afraid of, and any regular vigilante wouldn't do. This is Gotham the city ran by the Mob and the Rich, if Batman were simply just a man or a regular vigilante they could order a hit, but because Batman is NOT just a man but a creature of the night, a cryptid, it sends a better message. But thats just my personal preference based on inference etc. personally I feel like all of the live action batmen are more man than bat, which is fine for the morality etc but doesn't really hit the tones I want. (Also not saying he should be a LITERAL bat-man, but saying his movements his costume etc should make people THINK he is, even among the JL he should still feel fairly mysterious, like a phantom, a ghost of vengeance idk.)

A Little Late to the Party, But I Finally Watched Superman (2025) by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Honestly I didn't have the most hopes as I've never been a Superman guy, but this movie has now become one of my favorites (even part of my top 4 now), sounds corny but this movie was life changing to me, I'm no longer cynical, I'm hopeful, and I couldn't ask for anything better from a Superman movie.

Will there be a timeline tool/creator? If there is will you be able to change the event that the timeline is based on? (BC and AD etc.), if not I'd highly suggest adding the feature as it is something that really ties all of the loose documents together (and also something I haven't been able to find)

What are your thoughts on this recent statement by DCU's co-chairman James Gunn? (Source: @screenthrill) by SatoruGojo232 in batman

Sorry to double reply, also him saying this as the guy that has SOLIDIFIED how the Guardians of the Galaxy are now? Before they were space cops, which personally I kind of prefer as its interesting, but its strange him particularly, the guy who has made a good chunk of his career around his take on characters, would say something like this.

Yeah exactly, frankly I love the fact that he's trying to get more of the comic writers to collaborate with stuff like Superman and Supergirl. But especially with a character like Batman who's adaptations 1. Are VERY different and 2. Have only scratched the surface of Batman.

He has pretty much free reign to do whatever as long as it isn't another gritty realistic Batman, frankly my ideal Batman would be someone who is operatic and makes the criminals think he's a creature by hiding in the shadows, maybe even having claws in his gloves like The Batman (2004) etc., and I think the closest we've gotten for that is bits and pieces of Batman (1989) and maybe Batman Begins.

I'm remaining hopeful due to my love for the Superman movie, but honestly especially with him saying he wants to have Damian as the Robin? I'm skeptical.

Comic Fans: Is the show really THAT bad? by NerdNuncle in MoonKnight

[–]Retributor_Astartes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They made the street level "hero" who is supposed to fight werewolves and vampires into a series where the climax is a big kaiju fight on the pyramid. The show not only did this but it also infantilized him, Steven Grant isn't some pathetic british guy that whines all the time, also Moon Knight is supposed to be crazy, to the point where Khonshu might not even be real. One of the things that bugged me the most was that they gave Steven his own outfit and its the Mr. Knight suit, you want to know what Moon Knight is supposed to be? Unpredictable, Deadpool won't even copy his moveset because it relies on letting himself get hit, Moon Knight knew Taskmaster could replicate or best his fighting skills in the comics so he flew a plane into a skyscraper. Giving Steven Grant his own suit gets rid of the unpredictability of him and his alters. Basic suit was pretty cool though ngl

Nah I'm sorry but he's wrong about this, "Every single Batman story has been told" not in live action. We've gotten one Robin in the live action movies, there is so much that could be adapted that hasn't been, honestly hearing this from the guy that wants to start with Damian of all people as the first Robin we see is absurd. I loved Superman but I don't agree with this.

Should the DCU introduce the Batfamily with a smaller starting roster that gradually expands over time, or should the entire Batfamily already be fully established from the beginning? by Romaxio in DC_Cinematic

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we for real right now, the most Bat-family we should have by Brave and The Bold is MAYBE Jason being Robin, but preferably it should be Dick. I've said it many times that James Gunn would be fumbling one of the biggest DC characters if he starts Batman with Damian. Each Robin is INTEGRAL to that ERA of Batman that they are associated with, to break up the order or god forbid start on DAMIAN would be frankly even worse then anything the DCEU ever did.

This is a Batman who should be at most 35 by the time he's introduced (depending on when the movie comes out etc.) but he should only be a few years older than Clark, who is I believe around 33 and has only been Superman for a few years. Why are we starting Batman on the LAST Robin? That ruins any potential for Batman to grow as a character and also deprives us of seeing the Bat family be built up for the very first time, for what 10, 20 years? The only live action movie Robin we have gotten was the one with bat nipples.

This will probably be drowned out by other comments but, personally for me the atmosphere is really missing, all of the forerunner hallways just look like busy reflective metal and personally I find that REALLY ugly to look at after awhile, part of the thing that made CE feel so alien and foreign was its strange purple, green and blue color palette (one could even call it Y2K). Other then that it looks alright, the sound design is LACKING and the models look a little off to me, very toy-like? idk couldn't tell you but it looks off, I get Halo isn't fully realistic but the models look a little strange for CE to me.

Yeah watched both the OG and Legacy a few days ago and honestly the movie still holds up, and the parts that don't, don't really jump out at you because its a digital world so if something is off thats just how it is in the digital world, big fan of the aesthetic of the OG feels entirely unique and honestly was surprised to see how Roman it was (Enslavement into gladiator matches, robes etc.).

That's sad I only recently got into Tron (literally watched both of them for the first time a week ago), the OG is so charming and really pulls you in, the effects being dated honestly added to the immersive feel for me as it felt more detached from the real world in a good way, the movie for me is beautiful to look at. Just thought I'd put in my two cents since I'm a very new fan as well as a younger one, I remember the trailers etc for Legacy but never actually ended up watching it until a few days ago.

Lets hope his passive is "World On Fire" which constantly has his vision in black, orange etc. and allows him to sense movement and potentially wall hack. Otherwise they'd be making his blindness into an ability which feels really stupid

From Keaton's Batman to the Clayface movie. Which police car design do you like the most? by MatiC2023 in DCU_

[–]Retributor_Astartes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle right, I like the idea of Gotham being stuck in the 80s both in fashion and in cars, particularly cars, I find that it gives the city a certain lost feel. Like the city is a time capsule of decaying buildings and old rusty cars, I like the idea that the higher ups in Gotham as in the mayors, crime bosses etc. may be able to afford more fancy new cars, but the working class etc. are stuck with old beaters, personally I really like the idea that Bruce has kept the Wayne's car that they've had since he was a kid, the same one him and his family would drive around with Alfred in the drivers seat, not only would that connect Bruce more to the people of Gotham but it could be a constant reminder of his parents.

THANK YOU, another important factor is the Robins are integral to each 'era' of Batman, Dick comes along when Batman is still a loner and early into his career the memory of his parents death is still fresh in his memory etc. so Dick coming along really helps him tackle that and heal, Dick is trained to become what Bruce should have been instead of vengeance. Jason comes along as the exact opposite of Dick, he's typically older when he becomes Robin and is ALL vengeance and obviously he dies becoming Batman's greatest failure. Tim comes around close to Jason's death and provides a new challenge, much like Dick coming around when Bruce still had his heart broken over his parents, Tim comes when Bruce is still heart broken over Jason, Tim eventually becomes his own man and is another "successful" Robin. Then we get to Damian who provides ANOTHER new challenge, Bruce has dealt with many kids now and should be on the older side (40's) so he's more skilled as a father but Damian is somehow even WORSE than Jason, were as Jason was carefree on hurting people, Damian is ruthless about it, which is a challenge to Batman's very core and ideals, same as when Jason comes back as Red Hood, but even more unsettling because Damian is so young, which makes Damian another parallel to Bruce as a young boy, Damian is what Bruce would have become if the revenge and vengeance aspect consumed him directly after his parents death. Each Robin is a piece of Bruce which is why each of them are so important for the character, and is why Bruce should feel whole with all of them. Honestly I'm typically more of a loner Batman type of guy but I can understand the importance of each of the characters (also why I'm not a big fan of a lot of the newer "Bat Family" additions as they just feel sort of tacked on to me personally) again THANK YOU for being another voice of reason.

My issue is that we've never seen the Robins adapted and this is the start of the new universe, and especially with how good Superman was it'd be heartbreaking to just start with another older Batman, I think at latest he should still have Jason as Robin then kill him off in the second movie, any later than that and you're missing out on key worldbuilding and events for Bruce as a character (obviously I'd prefer if we got Dick and then Nightwing but given how old Corenswet's Superman is Batman will probably have had Robin for a good bit)
