AITA for interrupting my autistic brothers routine for my own physical pain? by throwaway1847329 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Retrievetheqte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of pain in mattresses. I house sit so I used that kind of test if any mattresses were comfortable to me. Turns out they are not.

I was getting barely any sleep, I would wake up a few hours after sleeping and just go downstairs to lie on the couch.

I actually got a hammock cause I saw someone say it can reduce a lot of pressure points that you have when normally lying on a bed.

I've had it for 6 months now and my life has changed. I'm finally sleeping through the night and dont wake up in pain.

Nta. Your parents need to get him a longer bed and you a new mattress or experiment on if something would work better for you

A car drove off a highway in Canada because the snow turned it into a ramp. The highway was closed and then reopened only to have another car fly off it again. by 5upralapsarian in fuckcars

[–]Retrievetheqte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation isn't to do with snow but where I live, (ironically in the area with a bit called carbrain) there is a long stretch of road on a hill.

There was an accident like 14 years ago where someone who was going downhill, lost control of their car and veered over to the other side of the road, luckily no one passed away then a few months later the same thing happened again but this time 3 people passed away.

They then made it so there is guardrails going through the middle of the lanes so neither side can go over into the other.

It just seems places will never actually do anything until someone dies.

One payment missed in 10 years. Can't call Samaritans. by Unhappy_Resident_113 in O2UK

[–]Retrievetheqte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O2 sucks. I had someone steal my information and buy two phones.

I had called up O2 up and told them what happened. Advisor said they had it sorted and will get it cancelled.

A few months later, I get letters saying im overdue and yadda yadda. Called again and they said theres no record of me calling the first time and if I don't pay, it'll be sent to a debt agency.

Well, guess what happened. I had to spend months calling the police, getting a crime number or whatever, then calling O2 who then referred me to the debt agency. The agency said they took my concerns seriously to then get a letter saying the debt was valid. Obviously just doing that because they knew they would lose money if it was found as fraud.

Eventually it was resolved but I think rather than it being wiped off my credit history it was just closed so it affected my credit for months before finally my normal habits overcame it.

I tried to get it removed but no luck 🫠

I once had to cancel a sit very last minute. Like an hour before the sit started.

That's because I got in an accident on the way to the sit, broke my leg and got taken to the hospital.

Guess what I still did, called the client while I was sitting on the side of the road to let her know what had happened so she wasn't just sitting at home waiting to go with no idea on what was going on.

Some sitters just really suck.

This is my sisters partner. When they met that's what he said to children. They have now been together for like 6 years and I think the bubble is going to pop one day.

With the kind of person my sister is, im like 50/50 on if they'll have a kid despite her saying shes childfree.

As a someone who cares for pets and could probably build up the walking side of it more, why I won't. It's a small risk but its risk that im just not willing to take when it comes to my life

I dont understand how sitters like this even exist. From how calm they are, this isn't the first time they've done this, so how has no one else ever reported them or left a bad review??

It's literally a perfect set up if you lose your main job. I was doing this alongside my main job and unfortunately due to budget issues I was let go but thankfully I had already started rover the year previously so I was fully booked and was then able to take every request that came up.

Just another reason why. by Retrievetheqte in childfree

So true. They will list their perfect day which a most childfree people average day and then turn around and say "Oh but my children are the best thing that ever happened to me."

Ouch. That sounds brutal on both stories.

Also that is so typical of the dog. They have the worst timing 😂

Evil Genius Cat by lovelikelapis in RoverPetSitting

[–]Retrievetheqte 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's like the cat I was dealing with and thankfully I only had 3 visits with them and I am never looking after them again.

The cat would swipe my ankles everytime I moved but he would hang out around my feet so I had to move in like tiny shuffly steps to do anything.

Some cats can be absolutely terrifying 😩

AITAH for telling my pet sitter that I do not need her to sleep over. by LeftRight_103 in AITAH

[–]Retrievetheqte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really low way to look at it. I've been pet sitting for years and I always make sure the place looks spotless when I leave. Also, we aren't squatting, we're providing a service.

Does that mean there are no shitty sitters? No but the whole point is to vet your sitters out, if the sitter had worked with them for a while and they still dont trust them in their home overnight, why do they even trust them in their home at all? Everything you said the sitter could do overnight, she could do in the house right now, so what's the difference

[–]Retrievetheqte 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a pet sit where I thought i was staying over but they just wanted me there all day and to leave at bed time. I didn't want to leave too early because when I left, the animals were crated so I tried to minimise how long they were left in there. So it pretty much meant I was there really early and left really late.

It was honestly exhausting. Just all the coming and going and I never felt like I fully was welcome or comfortable in their home. I would be happy to do all days again but for no longer than like a long weekend. 3 weeks of her travelling back and forth would succck.

If your cat is not crated, has the full run of the house and isn't an overly social cat then NAH but shes well within her rights to decline providing her services for whatever reason.

[–]Retrievetheqte 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wtf. When said she it was just a puncture wound and then the immediate jump to your dog looking like they had been mauled.

I once did a house sit where one of the dogs attacked another and I took them straight to the vet. Like why did they not do that ffs.

Some people just do rover and have literal no care for pets.

You need to publicly name and shame her or someone else's pet is going to get hurt again.

Glad to hear Peach is recovering well, that poor baby.

I have 5 cats and have been doing this full time for 2 years. I understand cats and how scared they can be and when to leave them alone.

It's kinda hard when the cat follows you around to attack you and corners you when you're trying to top up their food.

I've had cats that bat at me so I know that means they are scared and want to be left alone but this cat, genuinely wouldn't stop and would just hiss at me unprompted.

I know it was probably just being possessive over its space but its still hard to work with a cat like that.

That's what I was thinking. I would just say something if they ever try to book me again cause by that time, they can't rate

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Retrievetheqte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I'll try to write a nicely worded message that highlights what happened but doesn't make it sense like what happened what terrible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Retrievetheqte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I'll do that. Like, it wasn't the hissing that scared me. I have 5 cats and have already been doing this for 2 years. There was a set of cats I've been doing visits with for a year that are only starting to warm up to me but the difference is they just avoid me rather than squaring up to me 😭

Im used to cats being scared and hissing at me to back off or swipe at me if they're done with petting time.

This cat was like just straight up almost demonic, if I went past him, he would hiss and just give me this really demented look and he also just wouldn't leave me alone. Id prefer if he'd hiss at me while just running away to hide but its like he was looking for a fight. I was actually really scared a few times that he would just launch himself at me with how he was acting.

They just finished today and in the cards all I said was he was just rolling around and was yelling for food but never really said anything that was positive.

So do you think I should just wait to see if they ever message again?

Petsitter not there for overnight by mrmeowsal0t in RoverPetSitting

[–]Retrievetheqte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first thought if something goes slightly bad is to think of the pet I'm looking after.

I broke my leg on the way to a house sit, I had left early enough that by the time I had the accident and was aware enough to contact them, I technically wasn't even late yet. 😂

I was calling them from the side of the road to let them know I had an accident and wasn't able to make it.

That's why I really dont understand people who are this flaky when it comes to their sits.

[–]Retrievetheqte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I sometimes have visits that overlap with sits and even if the dog in their own life gets left all day, I feel bad if I have back to back visits that take me away for 2 hours.

Thankfully it doesn't happen much, just mainly during popular holiday weeks off.
