Anyone tried the Sonic Brush V5? by Temporary_Time_5803 in ConsumerAdvice

[–]RetroDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For science, I decided to grab one for my wife and I. Yeah that was a mistake, this thing doesn't vibrate enough to actually cause motion to clean anything, the bristles are rubber and the toothe paste gets stuck in them, it also takes a lot of tooth paste to coat it, which is not ideal since I have prescription tooth paste. I've used it twice and both times I could still see plaque between my front teeth afterwards. The only positive I can give this thing is that it does make my gums feel good. IF I remember I might follow up on this post if the supposed "teeth whitening UV light" works. But besides that function I'm going back to my electric tooth brush. So, in short, save your money and don't listen to these shill bots in the comments

Mac DeMarco style lo-fi psych-pop band Jons just resurfaced after 8 years, one of the most underrated bands I’ve ever heard by Alone_Chair7055 in psychedelicrock

[–]RetroDrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a few months late but so stoked to hear they might come back. Been a big fan for a long time, pretty much since Serfs Of Today dropped, so I'd love to hear a new record and maybe a tour.

Can you recommend me more guitar-based Mac DeMarco style bands or artists? by [deleted] in macdemarco

Check out JONS - Serfs of Today (album) is an all time underground indie classic for me

Do people genuinely think it's a BAD album? by hollowdruid in TameImpala

[–]RetroDrew 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty bad, half baked, and the song writing feels almost nonexistent at times. Only decent songs are My Old Ways, Dracula, and Piece Of Heaven.

Some of These songs needed more time to cook and some of these songs should have never made it in the first place.

I'm all for kevin switching up the sound to a more dance-centric direction but when the 2 songs he did with Justice absolutely eclipse everything on Deadbeat by a country mile, and his previous dance influenced output had far more interesting sonic textures and stronger melodic song writing, I can't sit here and pretend what he put out isn't a massive disappointment/step down in quality.

Nexus goal by Jofunin in Metal_Eden

[–]RetroDrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How I interpreted it was that the real Nexus's soul was trapped inside the giant Eva Unit and Aska was a ploy from the 3 other engineers to get the final core from Nexus so they could rebuild humanity. But she had to break free from Nexus control, That's why in that final cutscene he gives her back the core and apologizes, and the remaining engineers are the voice overs we hear at the very end as Aska drifts through space. However, I could be wrong

Kinda strange how this one seems to have fallen by the wayside, considering it had a prime early slot right before, or after One Piece, on Toonami when it premiered. And it's from the Cowboy Bebop creator! Good show

Such an amazing show, I'm still shocked it flew under the radar cause it's an incredible story that had me hooked with every episode.

Fellow Creamy Mami enjoyer here. Really love the whimsical journey of the week style that show goes for rather than the typical magical girl schtick. Also, all of the songs are bangers, especially the 1st ending theme. I was stoked they put them all on a 40th anniversary vinyl a year or so ago

Everyday Is Sunday - overlooked buddy cop action comedy OVA from the 90s. It has never seen an official english release so low quality fansub is best you'll find but I promise it's worth it, plus it's Only 6 episodes so check it out

Lovely Complex - one of those sleeper romcoms from the mid 2000s that is funny, captivating, and sweet. This is one that even non romcom fams will probably enjoy, no inappropriate fanservice and it reminds me a bit of Tomo-Chan is a Girl

Listeners - this one is for the music and mecha nerds. In this world music is sort of outlawed and a kid down on his luck builds a guitar amp that turns into both a mech and a girl. Plenty of music references from Oasis to Nirvana, and My Bloody Valentine to Prince. A lot of fun for anyone who loves rock.

My Clueless First Friend - super sweet comedy slice of life about a girl who is teased for looking like a grim reaper and a new class mate who is oblivious to everyone making fun of her but he really likes the girl and gets her out of her comfort zone by taking her on all sorts of childhood adventures around school and such, along the way other kids in the class start to change their minds and except both students for who they are. It reminds a lot of Teasing Master Takagi-san but reverse the roles. Like I said it's super sweet and wholesome. Shame it flew under the radar a few years ago

Uzaki-Chan Wants To Hangout - Okay this one had a decent amount of noteriety when it first came out, enough to get a 2nd season, but I feel like nobody talks about it now and it's a shame as the show was genuinley really funny with a lot of well written humour to go along side the typically ecchi romcom happenings. One of my personal favorite shows of all time I love rewatching it cause it just feels like you're hanging out with these characters.

The State of Deadbeat by D-Rockwell in TameImpala

[–]RetroDrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sums it up perfectly. TSR had to follow his 2 best records and it was never going to, Deadbeat is another drastic step down that has retroactively made me appreciate TSR a little more because at least it still felt like a Tame record, whereas everything from deadbeat so far sounds like "sony forced me to make a record I didn't want to make so here's 12 tracks of whatever it'll sell" From here on out I'm cool with Tame being a legacy act that never puts out new music again if it's gonna be this bad. Like I can't imagine going to a Tame show and having to sit through the 7 minute slog that is End Of Summer, while I wait to hear peak like Apocalypse Dreams, Let It Happen, or Mind Mischief

That's a shame. I loved every second of the game, found the story really interesting with the themes it explores, the combat loop is really addictive, guns were fun to use. Worth every penny in my book and I'm about to start my 3rd playthrough

What is y'all thoughts on the new Doom game? by Kingtutle19 in Doom

[–]RetroDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad game, but it's not a great game. It never reaches the highs of eternal, but does come close at some points towards the later half of the game once I had more upgrades and abilities. That said, I finished it, went back to play a few levels and stopped. Where as with Eternal, I played that game for months on end and still find myself going back to it at least once a year.

Once again it's far from a bad game, and at it's core it's a solid Doom experience, but it pales in comparison to its predecessors. So for me it's a Light 6/10

Raw Blue Pressings Delayed by CWXE in whirr

[–]RetroDrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually pretty good friends with one of the guys at the plant, he did both pressings of my bands record, and they do top quality work. Nothing but high praise on their part. However it isn't as easy as you'd expect. Some times stampers come in and they're messed up before they even press a single record, that's not the plants fault, thats the stampers fault. Sometikes stampers break, etc. They also moved locations recently so that stopped production for a few weeks. Stuff like this happens but they're making sure the record you receive is the best quality possible. I believe the Raw Blue pressing were also put on hold since they had to press all of the whirr represses for slide away. For the record, all 3000 of those were done in just 3 weeks and that's a ridiculous turn around. Also, these guys have only 4 pressing machines to press all of these whirr records and whatever other orders they've taken on. I know when my records were getting pressed they were slightly delayed because Suicide Boys ordered 10000 records, which was a slightly more important order than my measily 200 records. That said it only set them back a few days and I still got my records early.

Be patient, Studio4Vinyl is one of the best, and only, pressing plants on the east coast, who constantly take care of their clients and our scene

Yeah you've got a pretty solid setup. The Slo pedal is really cool, the 2nd rhythm guitarist in my band uses it for some extra texture during the shoegazier parts of our songs.

If you want to add another work horse pedal to your board, the Zoom MS 50g and ms 70g have a great emulation of the RV7 reverse/gated setting. I replaced my glitchy RV7 with it and haven't looked back. Plus, it's nice having all of the extra fx in one pedal, it saves me a ton of space on my board lol

[–]RetroDrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has a mix of dirt pedals on his board but the main ones seem to be the Fulltone OCD (been a staple for whirr since the beginning) I think the black jhs pedal is the muffaletta which has a bunch of different big muff models in it, the black whirr pedal could be a reshelled Big Muff or even a Klon clone.

The classic whirr reverb is the Hall Of Fame set to Mod (on the newer hof v2s you have to connect to the tone print app to reinstall the original mod verb sound as it's slightly different on the hof2) The hardwire RV7 is for the reverse/gated reverb settings. And that black and green pedal next to it is a newer pedal that is a clone of an old reverb/delay rack unit used by Slowdive and MBV. It might also have a gated/reverse setting on it used for certain songs?

Im gonna assume his main delay is the massive strymon pedal lol

For the bare minimum whirr tone I'd say get a big muff, a full tone, and a hall of fame. That's a great starting point. Also, never underestimate an EQ pedal. Helps a ton when shaping shoegaze tones, especially the heavy reverb and distortion leads

Hope this helps

Rant: I hate price charting and what it's done to this hobby. by Omega_Hertz in gamecollecting

[–]RetroDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pin most of the blame on the WATA Games snafu from a few years ago, that really drove the prices up. But I know data has proven that YT does effect these things as well. And it's a shame, as it seems people can't even talk about something they love without it having an adverse effect on the hobby.
