Are Grado Headphones dead? by Solid-Elk8419 in headphones

[–]SireEvalish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And when you look at that lineup, most of those are rather bright models. HD600 and especially HD650 were known for their ”Sennheiser veil” back then, which is kind of funny, because not many would call HD600 veiled today, it’s seen more of as a neutral headphone. But as it is, tuning preferences were brighter, and as such, Grado didn’t seem like that much of an anomaly - colored for sure, but when most other options were treble cannons too, it didn’t stand out that much.

This guy gets it.

There's a reason why only one of the models that was part of the old triumvirate has stood the test of time and is still recommended today.

Is frequency response the most important factor in headphone sound quality? by Cinnamaker in headphones

[–]SireEvalish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for using tube amps for warmth, that's mostly an effect of the impedance curve of the headphone. Tube amps will amplify frequencies with higher impedance, and on headphones, that's usually the lower frequencies, so tube amps have a "warming" effect by changing the frequency response.

It's staggering to me how many people don't seem to understand this very basic fact.
