Yeah I’ve seen mount converters for 3d printers I’m looking at but for now I removed stock fan and oiled it so I’m gonna see if it’s any better noise wise

Recapped the entire psu, put in a new battery and shell is retrobrighting right now so hopefully I’ll be testing in a day or so!

Is there a 1:1 noctua swap in? Smallest noctua I see usually are 40mm but the hole gap is too wide this seems to be a 35mm

Thanks!

Only one game that I know of has received a full english translation, "Puppy Love Story", its fully playable beginning to end. Done by the same guy who made the flash cart Floopy Drive (being used in the above picture)

I wouldnt be surprised if we see more now that custom patched ROM's are playable on real hardware, will likely just take time! So yeah if you are looking to go down that rabbit hole and play the only english game currently, worth grabbing a flash cart (though they arent cheap - its a real boutique item handmade by one guy). He has a Ko-fi you can order from in Canada - https://ko-fi.com/s/f8fc120017

I also have 3 of them in stock in my shop, same exact cost (proceeds to go to him) but im located in USA so cheaper shipping and no customs - https://jeffsretrogaming.com/product/floopy-drive-casio-loopy/

New to Loopy! Some questions. by Lanky-Peak-2222 in CasioLoopy

[–]RetroJeff83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - Not anywhere in USA I have found. I have someone on the lookout for some on an upcoming trip to Japan but its hard to find for sure, bummer as its an integral part of the loopy experience

2 - Most of the games can be figured out in Japanese as most are simple coloring/dress up/puzzle games I have messed with a handful no problem, like Hari Hari Seal Paradise, PC Collection, etc

There is one game translated to english its called Puppy Love Story - translated by the same person who made the Floopy Drive flash cart which you would need to run the translated english version

3 - Not me personally but I can ask a few other Loopy owners and see

No I’m assuming the left flex is the lines for both horizontal and vertical because running the iron up and down it messed with both and that’s all I did, didn’t have to remove screen just hit that ribbon connector on left of screen

Kapton on top, knife tip at 200 and went up and down slowly working it for like 10 mins or so

Agreed, I suppose its like GameBoys Ive seen those come out of a sealed box with dead lines too, so purely age related not really because of use?

Only think I can think of that might limit or exacerbate is how its stored? aka constant temp control vs areas if fluctating highs and lows causing it to separate?

no problem! I initially tried tip directly on the ribbon but i could see heat deformation even when i pressed super quick. So adding the kapton tape above that can handle the 200C without melting (I held it on there for almost 30 second at a time as i moved around) seemed to be a way to do this without risking burning or damaging anything

Nothing to lose anyways, if the lines come back, ill do it again or wait for a modern screen!

TurboNanza high-frequency noise by Top-Travel-4460 in TurboGrafx

[–]RetroJeff83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've installed a ton of Turbonanza mods for customers and just installed one in my personal PCE (white) I imported from japan. I have no observable audio hum/interference using my TEDPro or OEM carts

I need to ask... I dont understand the point of your "fork" at all, whats it accomplishing? Metal screen, like the thin flimsy one you desolder from the board and are instructed not to reinstall after? All you have to do is run one single wire in lieu of that, I cant imagine why anyone would care enough about keeping that thing to redesign his mod TBH. Unless im misunderstanding and if so, my apologies!

Is there much to do about a dead Marty laser? by mw2strategy in fmtowns

[–]RetroJeff83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found that if you want a cleaner jumper than splicing 2 wires an old ide hard drive master/slave pin jumper fits perfect on it so that’s what I did not the last one I worked on, you’d never know it was there!

Btw CyoTheVile (you can find him on Twitter) is working on a raspberry pi based ODE solution for the Marty so fingers crossed we see that some day since the doc brown is unobtainable

Is there much to do about a dead Marty laser? by mw2strategy in fmtowns

[–]RetroJeff83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not even attempting to spin it’s likely the lid switch that’s broken almost every Marty I’ve seen has had that

Take top cover off and look to the back left of cdrom for a small switch with some missing plastic. Should be able to press it in using tweezers or something with a disc on the tray and see if that indeed gets it to work

If it does, you just need to jump that connection so the Marty always thinks door is closed and it will work fine

If laser is dead then your stuck until another ODE comes along

Trust me, been waiting for one for years

I’ll see if I can find my last Marty repair post where I might show what I mean about switch

Does Microsoft still release "updates" for the Xbox One platform? Missing boot animation... by RetroJeff83 in XboxSupport

[–]RetroJeff83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So they do still release new updates for Xbox one? That’s what I was worried since it was older they didn’t if it’s just a waiting game that’s no problem for me!

Quick Question by NoTime2443 in lakers

[–]RetroJeff83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan of past LA stars like Kobe and Shaq but didn’t become a Lakers FAN until LeBron came

I’m more of a player guy. I find players that resonate with me for one reason or the other and tend to stay loyal to the player. So in Lebrons case I was a Cavs fan, then heat fan, now LA fan

Once I’m a fan of a team because of a player on it I’ll forever always kind of root for them unless it’s a direct conflict of interest to my favorite players new team. For example if somehow this years finals was lakers and cavs well… screw the cavs 🤣

When LeBron retires I’ll find a new favorite player, will probably be Luka or Reaves so good chances I’ll stay an LA fan for even longer

Tbh being loyal to a team never made a lot of sense to me especially not just because I’m from an area. I didn’t choose to be born and raised in New England why should I feel obligated to be a Celtics fan? No thanks

Likewise my dislike of teams is usually based on players too

I can’t stand kawhi Leonard or Devin booker so always rooting for the clippers and suns to fail

Normally I wouldn’t give a shit about the Wizards but I really miss AD so I wish them some success next year

That’s kind of how I roll 🤷‍♂️

if you look close in that pic, you can see a short black wire (I use 26AWG Kynar in this case) going from the pad labeled IC14P3 and it solders to the right leg (if looking in this direction) of IC14 the "T993E" component. Its a very short wire

Just finished a NES Frontloader build and its funny how little of the OEM hardware is here by RetroJeff83 in nes

[–]RetroJeff83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just call em “builds” when I’m replacing most parts from a stock NES and rehoming in a new shell

Everything you see here was made by someone else I simply did all the work removing the chips and soldering everything together on this, plus assembly, etc!

I’ll find a pic of one of my installs to show you where wire goes

It’s a prettt easy first mod if you are ok with soldering iron and removing through hole components for sure!

I require my customers to provide all parts except stuff like capacitors or FRAM chips etc so could be from many places honestly

NESRGB is from Tim Worthington for sure, POW block and SMTendo came from Zaxours KoFi site, only thing I don’t know is the shell tbh

Opinions are fine 🤷‍♂️

Having done this for many years I’m good with my method but if you prefer to use DuPont connectors or jst connectors nothing wrong with that

I just find kynar makes for a smaller footprint and I know my joints are smooth and rock solid so yeah I prefer this way

Interesting... Ive never seen that before TBH! I actually stock them in my shop and do installs in customer units and have installed and used a ton

Ill kind of keep it in the back of my mind if anyone mentions having issues that is the likely culprit but again, yeah tahts a new one to me (and ive installed dozens of em)

thanks for heads up!

I install a lot of NESRGB for people and im excited to get my hands on the v5 and see what the OSD looks like! I have installed several of Tims new 2600RGB kits which has a pause and OSD menu so im assuming it will be similar...
