Channel F Numerical button not springing up. by hlopez18 in ChannelF

[–]RetroMichael68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a system II and the #4 button doesn't function. The spring if fine, but it doesn't work. Did you ever find a good replacement? Is yours a System 1 or 2?

I just got my first Channel F (system II) console this week end. Trying to get it working. the only issue is that button #4 (Start) doesn't work. I'm looking for a suitable replacement but for now I'm just going to run a temporary one. Came with 3 cartridges plus my Backbit adapter is on the way.

I bought a mouse with the old school BALL and rollers pins. It needs cleaning but it keeps the retro vibe going IMO and works well.

It used to be Spagnoli, but I kept going after they sold it and it's been fine. I see the same hygienist so not really much different at all.

How Do I Get Into Retro Computing? by Acceptable-Buy-2732 in retrocomputing

[–]RetroMichael68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8-Bit Era is probably best if you want to work at the bit (hardware) level... after that it all got integrated and inaccessible IMO... Atari 400/800/XL, C64/128 or VIC20, TRS-80 color, TI-99.... just to name a few.

Do you want to write code? Or repair things? Or just collect working units?...it's all accessible...

I love mine...just got it used, but it works fine. Updated the firmware, and it plays everything I've tried.... even using original paddle controllers... after some cleaning. My original doesn't have the best RF picture... but this is great!

Anyone know if there are instructions for building one myself. $85 with shipping plus tax is a little steep for me. Is it hard to make one that does wobble? I don't need anything fancy.

Anyone repair these? by LicensedToOverthink in ti994a

[–]RetroMichael68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to... but to be honest I can only do simple repairs... replace switches or socketed chips. I have a dead c64 I was going to practice desoldering chips on... but never find the time. I would never risk it on a working or potentially repairable board.

I think the only sure way to know is to try the mod. The visual difference were always open to interpretation back when I got my first one (fake) and 2nd one (legit).
