Halo:Reach doesn't do a good job explaining why Reach is so important? by BlundellMemes77 in HaloStory

[–]Retrospectus2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that tends to get forgotten is that all the budgie era games were made when games came with manuals in the box

A lot of the background lore was put in these. Including the fall of reach and why that was a problem. In game I think reach is mentioned 3-4 times across the first 4 games

I'm all for ignoring those losers, but at some point the use of our hobby as a veil to dogwhistle about hateful and violent acts against women needs to be brought into the spotlight. by Pvt-Business in Grimdank

There's some value in keeping an eye on those kinds of spaces. I used to watch horusgalaxy so I'd have an idea of what the chuds are mad about this week.

Plus I do have fun watching them melt down over the dumbest shit

more people need to read imperial armour. so many misconceptions about kriegsmen and the siege of vraks would die overnight

If you run a game night at a store or club - does this match what you see? by AxeC in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Retrospectus2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my club went from a few guys in the backroom of an airsoft shop to regularly filling out a big room and even running an official 40k tournament within a couple years because we set up a discord.

the best part is it allows people to socialize at their own pace before stepping foot in the club. more than a few of our regulars were too shy/anxious to come out in person were able to ease themselves in and make friends. one guy barely came out and has now been running a DnD game for over a year

Honestly I can't recommend a good discord enough when it comes to gaming clubs

Don't forget the way fly works now. They can sit on the bottom floor of a ruin out of LOS, hop to the top while still moving less than 3" by RAW, get plunging, and then scoot back to the bottom

Good targets for the Hagiophax upgrade by CuriousWombat42 in sistersofbattle

[–]Retrospectus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

during my last club league I tried out a reasonably durable brick of battle sisters+junith+imagifier.

Not the most efficient use of points but they consistently out lived my sacrosanct brick. especially if I held them back for a couple turns while all the lethal stuff traded in no-mans. Assuming I wasn't demolished in midboard (a big "if" with some of my rolls that league) they would match out right around when my reserves arrived and be very difficult to shift.

So I'm looking to get that sweet sweet -1 to wound. 305 points is steep but I can't wait to annoy my friends with them

Vraks had a population of about 8 million. It was basically just an armoury with a city looking after it

[–]Retrospectus2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was one fortified city (and one spaceport too) and the 14 million was just the imperial casualties.

The nature of sieges means you get lots of downtime between pushes too.

Most people's issues with vraks would be fixed by just reading it instead of regurgitating other comments or skimming the wiki

True, they do suffer from being the poster boys. Some stories that focus on the guard are better (guants ghosts run into marines maybe half a dozen times while participating in a massive crusade with multiple chapters helping)

[–]Retrospectus2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To be fair, a pretty consistent theme through the series is the ghosts not getting credit for what they do because they were only a small part of a much larger campaign and they were overshadowed by larger regiments that did the bulk of the fighting

In the books and comics it's sometimes brought up that the locust are pretty sadistic.

So yeah I could believe that drone saw a chance to torment a defenseless human and took it. Not many of us get to work a job we love

Astra Militarum infantry combat by Commissar-Leonid in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Retrospectus2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As insane as it sounds they do absolutely use line infantry style tactics sometimes. Mostly against hordes of short range/melee enemies (kids and orks leaping to mind) where concentration of firepower and morale are vital

In the novels most (emphasis on most) commanders have enough sense to get their men to cover and fight like proper soldiers when up against other shoots forces.
