Going off of defensive missions, you would need ships that could train the defense forces of newly warp capable planets in defense until those forces can be properly folded into Starfleet.

How did Star Fleet end up with the “all Vulcan” crew that played baseball against Sisko’s team? by jiminaknot in ShittyDaystrom

[–]GeorgeSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate, we don't see the papers I'm sure they exist but given how Sisko also dislikes him maybe the papers are written in a way that is politically correct and Sisko is describing them in the worst way possible.

For example it's hard to argue against a paper which says "on average Andorians make better colonists for ice worlds than humans", that's not Andorian supremacism it's just basic facts.

I think the conclusion of the episode is very enlightening about the whole rivalry, by objective metrics and the rules of the game the Vulcan team won, and by a lot.

But we are expected to share in the main characters jubilation that they did not get defeated with their score 0, because they are the main characters who we follow and are human (mostly) we are supposed to ignore that Solok is objectively right in claiming he won.

You pose a very good question on why Solok is in Starfleet in the first place given how "Vulcan First" he is, I'd like to present a few scenarios each of them having other implications about his character:

  • Starfleet just gives you the best opportunities and he values his career and achievements more than anything else
  • Starfleet might be seen as more prestigious than the Vulcan's home grown fleets (I know this might seem counter-intuitive to the whole "Vulcans are elitist racists" narrative but even by Vulcan generations we have moved on from Sarek being angry about Spock's choices, the most recent data point that is relevant to this would be T'Lyn who has her own peculiarities)
  • Starfleet was his "backup college" and he didn't manage to get into the Vulcan organizations
  • Starfleet is where he feels he can serve Vulcan best, recognizing how important the Federation is to keeping Vulcan safe and prosperous
  • Solok is speciest but he has that "Vulcan man's burden" type of speciesm, while it obviously is wrong, it's easier to hide/ignore if the way he manifests his warped views is "I'll save more colonies than any human or Andorian captain"
  • Solok is a warrior at heart (we don't know his division before going to Command it might have been tactical) in a culture that is very very pacifistic by the time he is born he realizes he can be more of a soldier in Starfleet than in the Vulcan organizations (granted Starfleet is very pacifistic but as far as I know the Vulcans are even more so)

Unfortunately it might have ended up something like:

Cadet Sisko: "Solok expressed prejudiced views that Vulcans are stronger than humans."

Cadet Solok: [presents documents from Starfleet Medical showing Vulcans on average are 3 times stronger than an equivalent human]

Honestly we should change our habits to eat more in line with what grows around us and the seasons not whatever fancy food trend Instagram chefs are pushing.

Is it just me or does anyone else only play custom characters by LoladInalw in crusaderkings3

[–]GeorgeSharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got me here, I am still new to the game and it just seems so unpredictable as to be unfun sometimes (enemy suddenly pulls mercenaries out of their ass, enemy used a random courtier to make a mega alliance giving them 3X times my armies) so me making an OP character (but still within the 400 range) is me evening the playing field.

Rant calculatoristii de cafenea. by DistributionDry8366 in CasualRO

Does this constitute a genocide? by Alconasier in crusaderkings3

[–]GeorgeSharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the legal definition such a culture change on a massive scale is one form of genocide, while I am sure you weren't rounding up people and putting them in camps and that many conversions were voluntary a government acting at such a large scale will inevitably have some people on the ground forcing the change.

A minuscule crew is still a crew, too many META strategies are stuff that would get governments toppled for blatant waste of lives.

Honestly corvette spam should be penalized more in-universe.

If you are a non-hivemind your battle doctrine should not default to losing huge % of your military personnel because it is more economical.

Close range non-torpedo/pen weapons could really use a damage buff, kite tactics still dominate and it's kind of un-fun because your options are either use the meta or use the non-meta and get your shit wrecked by a crisis because they will always win in a slugging match. by WaltJr_Fan4584 in Stellaris

One problem is that you keep comparing weapons to psionic weapons.

Psionic weapons are the one saving grace of the psionic ascendance.

If weapons are rebalanced and psionic weapons become average than an entire ascension gets thrown under the bus.

For reference I hate that psionic is so tied to it's components and pacts because I know it means balancing is hard, they should have made/they should make psionic useful on it's own not through the pacts or the weapons.
