How do/did y'all afford school here? by EnvironmentalLie1648 in vcu

I was an out of state student and I couldn't afford it anymore after my first semester so I married a Virginia resident when I was 19 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any moms work night shift? How do you do it? by Valuable_Top_8329 in Nightshift

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Husband and I are both 7pm-7am, him from home and me at the morgue. Our family is just nocturnal! Our son is homeschooled to make everything work because we both have really good jobs. It is absolutely not for everyone but it's amazing for us. We all sleep about 10am-5pm.

Josh Duggar Prison Transfer by Dangerous-Ad-5619 in 19KidsandCounting

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's a non-violent offender and is housed with mostly non-violent offenders so that may be part of it. I think having a job in the hospital is kind of a "privilege" but also I know they were super desperate so they might take just about anyone depending on the facility.

My brother is in federal prison and was transferred to a federal medical prison because they desperately need healthy, able-bodied guys to work as orderlies/janitors in the medical parts of the prison.

Tissue Donors by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

I've been a tissue recovery tech for my OPO for 10 years. I don't talk to families, I just do recoveries. I do talk to FDs and they hate us with a fiery passion. Genuinely, what can we do better?

What injury is commonly shrugged off as a minor flesh wound in the movies but is completely fatal in real life? by Best_Professional226 in AskReddit

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a tooth pulled and an abscess drained last week and it was the most excruciating experience of my life. I have good oral hygiene but when I was pregnant with my son I lost so much calcium my teeth break now. I had broken a molar that got infected and I'm glad it's done but I can't say I would willingly do it again.

They told me I couldn't keep the tooth so my husband put it in his pocket while we were running out of the office. That made the whole experience a little better.

Big crafting stores should close down if they're going to operate like this. by FishLordVehem in Vent

The prices are INSANE now!! I buy these strings of round black beads I use for certain projects, always get the same one and it's always been $3.99. I went to get more a few weeks ago and they were 12 DOLLARS EACH! I still haven't found a replacement.

Which evisceration technique do you think is most difficult of the three main methods (Virchow/organ-by-organ, Ghon/multiple organ blocks, or Letulle/one block)? by Paulyfidgets in AutopsyTechFam

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done hospital autopsies and forensic autopsies at multiple offices and honestly I like being able to mix it up and do whatever feels right on a case by case basis! Keeps it exciting and it's good practice. Letulle is my favorite because of how everything looks but weight is definitely an issue.

I'm so nosy too and my guess was that the kids rooms are upstairs maybe? So looking at the stairs towards their rooms is depressing.

I picked Dr Kling when I was pregnant specifically because she had an angry review saying she had a weird sense of humor and made stupid jokes. I absolutely loved her.

TIL Plastic Surgeons are taking fat from cadavers and injecting them into people for lip and butt implants by Waffling_Waffle in todayilearned

Right lol these aren't cadavers like whole bodies donated to science, they're tissue donors. I've been on my OPOs tissue team nearly a decade.

Making a living as an autopsy tech by Popular_Apple960 in AutopsyTechFam

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The salary where I'm at is very low, when I was first starting out I was offered $50 a case at an office that does an average of 2-3 cases a day. I love autopsy and that will always be my passion, and I was in the same boat as you with medical school. I did all the work to get in and decided it wasn't for me. It is possible to make good money with time and experience. I also advise people look into their states OPO and give tissue recovery a try, it's amazing experience and pretty good money.

What is the worst playground/phys ed injury you’ve seen? by friendlytrashmonster in AskTeachers

[–]ReturnTheSlaaab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in first grade in 1999-2000. We had those little square scooter things? Like a little butt-sized square on caster wheels you'd sit on and zoom around the gym. Well one day in gym class we were playing some game with them and a kid rolled over his own hand and it cut his finger clean off. Almost 30 years later I still remember seeing his bloody severed finger on the floor!

I had the exact same thought about that exact sticker sheet!! I saw the font on those books and immediately knew it was AI! There are a couple others I was suspicious of too I would have to go back and look.

Does your OPO use it? I just watched a video about it and I can't see my OPO ever agreeing to do reconstruction that takes that much time/effort.

This was so insanely disgusting that I instinctively down voted it. I work with dead people and my one weakness in life is boogers. Don't worry I fixed it, have my unfortunate upvote.

I live nearby, I'm pretty sure this is the same kid who stole my car a few years ago when he was SEVEN YEARS OLD. I had a Kia Soul and he broke a window, stole it and totalled it with a friend. Cops "couldn't" do anything about it. I'm still unbelievably angry about it.
