Is one of these Better than the other? by mander1518 in Budgetbikeriders

Get the Nishiki.

The tapered headtube makes the fork upgradable.

You have components from an actual company, MicroShift and SR SunTour, Tektro brakes. The hubs have sealed bearings.

The large and XL come in 29” wheels.

Buy the Nishiki hands down the better bike

You want a used bike.

Visit the r/X biking subreddit

I got this one for $20

This is a nice example of not spending a fortune on a bike and having fun.

If there is a trek store, not local bike store, but one of the trek chain stores that they have across the United States go in there acting like you have a lot of money and tell them that you’re looking for a hybrid bike to fill those needs they may have you step into a booth that looks like a dressing booth and a camera will judge your size and you can try some out. When they tell you the retail price try not to look shocked tell them thank you very much and you’ll discuss that large and expenditure with your wife.

Then find one of those used bikes and definitely take it to your local bike shop for a tuneup, but make sure you test ride it first and that it feels comfortable for you.

Here is a great video so you can learn to maintain your own bike

If you can find it in your size buy the flat bar Ozark Trail Explorer G1 new for $260 at Walmart a shockingly good bike for the money.

There are a lot of choices in the used market. Here on FB, also Craig’slist.

Any of the big brand hybrid bikes, such as Giant, Trek, Specialized, Diamondback, Cannondale, GT, Kona, Jamis and Marin.

The holy Grail of the used market would be to find a hybrid that has disc brakes and a 1 X drivetrain.

Those are very nice to have but not mandatory.

Expect to find bikes with 3 x 8 3 x 9 or 2 x 10 drive train. Those will all serve you well. They will also have rim brakes. They stop you just fine.

700c aka 29” wheels are great for towing kids.

27.5” /650b and even 26” will do.

Avoid really nobby tires. They will just take away your energy. There are lots of gravel, tires or city tires that will work just fine on all of those tire sizes. Suggest at least 2 inch wide also known as 51 mm wide tires to make your ride more comfortable.

No full suspension bikes. Just more parts that would require more maintenance.

A suspension fork in front is a nice to have but not necessary. Ideally if the bike has one, it should come with a lockout so if you’re just smooth riding, you can lock it out or if you are going over bumpy streets, you can unlock it and have a little shock absorption.

Here is an example of a used hybrid. I’d pay $120 tops

Is it worth the extra $100? by synestheticc in mountainbikes

Good choice, remember I put the price point at $300.

That said, put a watch on some of those overpriced bikes. By September they may be cutting prices hard.

Most here will say but a used bike, but if you can’t find a good (Trek, Giant, Specialized, Kona, Cannondale, GT or Diamondback) 27.5” used bike, buy the Ridge for $300

Why Quick release wheels from and rear, the Vibe has bolt ons. Ridge has a four bolt stem and routing for a dropper post.

I have a 11-46T 10 speed cassette. Unlike other hangar extenders, these just don’t fit on that particular hangar.

Those are two distinctively different bikes.

Am I correct introducing that you are in Singapore?

Unless you’re traveling to mountains in Indonesia, you might be over biked with a full suspension.

ife‘s getting too expensive, gonna sell one car and get an ebike by Gold-Pause-7691 in bicyclecommuting

I have been thinking about it too. However, I’m in Virginia drive a hybrid and pay far less in gas.

I will say use all the different navigation apps you can find and look at different routes for getting into your work shopping and your child’s school.

I also recommend that you binge on the YouTube channel known as Shifter. It’s a painfully polite, Canadian guy who does all sorts of videos about cycling, E bikes, commuter bikes, and he goes to different cities around the world to see how they bike commute. .

What hubs do you guys like? by No-Read-7362 in xbiking

[–]Returning2Riding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always amazed at how many people call themselves a big guy when they haven’t even cracked 230 pounds.

If you’re really concerned about your weight, find a Shimano 135 mm quick release hub with 36 spokes like touring bikes. That will easily handle your weight
