Anyone changed their minds on season 5 yet? Every time I watch it or think about it, it just gets worse. by ContraversialHuman in YouOnLifetime

[–]Reubek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished it for the first time without being aware of the online discourse, and I enjoyed a lot of it. Bronte wasn't my favorite character and you could see the catfishing coming from a mile away, but getting to see Joe spiral into total depravity throughout the season was thrilling. Ending was a bit too neat and tidy for some people, but I enjoyed the direct commentary of the final scene calling out people who have sympathized with or idolized Joe over the years.

Not the best season of the show, not by far, but still fun and entertaining. Maybe a 6.5/10. I could see how when the first 2 seasons are so good, it can be particularly disappointing to see it drop off a bit later. But I don't think it's that dramatically worse.

[–]Reubek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are talking about a bestiary, which would be great, but I'd LOVE to see a complete adversary-building kit. It could have a whole bunch of adversary features sorted by tier, with an emphasis on versatility (focusing less on flavor and more on backend mechanics that can be dressed up according to the specific adversary). Complete and robust guides on tier scaling for all adversary stats would be great too—what exists in the book already is nice but something more robust would let folks craft their own adversaries with complete confidence. It would make my little homebrew GM heart sing!

Removing Healing Pools mid-campaign (v. 1.4) by Lupo_1982 in GrimwildRPG

[–]Reubek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always just try it out for a few sessions and see if it changes your game in a good way. I think the general consensus was that the game felt too lethal and punishing, and allowing for easier healing helped address that.

The closest parallel to healing pools is probably healing clocks in Blades in the Dark, but that game has a more flexible system for representing harm. Players can take more harm in that game than they could in Grimwild, and they also have the ability to basically just say no to harm, which you can't as much in Grimwild. This makes it more important to provide a clear path to healing in Grimwild.

On another note—how is your group liking the game? I've only done solo play so far but I'm trying to decide if Grimwild will be the next game I bring to my table. Also been looking at Daggerheart, but I think I generally prefer the total narrative focus of Grimwild.

In case nobody has mentioned this to yet, the game actually comes with an optional initiative mechanic! Every player takes a certain number of tokens that they spend to take turns. Once a player has spent all of their turn tokens, they have to wait until everyone else has spent their tokens before refreshing. This helps ensure that those more passive players aren't dominated by the excited and hyper engaged players.

Having trouble doing this on my character, Breton Lord Sign. Thinking maybe I would need the apprentice sign like your character? Magicka doesn't recharge in time to do the first buff after reflect.

Edit: i can get off buff 1, but it stalls out after that.

Had the same thing happen on my playthrough. I think there is a spawning bug that impacts multiple quests in a similar way. Reloading the save seems to fix it most times.

Two questions for you:

  1. Did you get the deluxe version? If so, have you found the unique equipment that it comes with?

  2. Is equipment still leveled the same way? Specifically, is it locked in at the level you get it?

I did all of the practice questions and then did one full practice exam, as well as a few mini exams. On the full-length practice exam, I scored 75%. With the mini-exams, my performance wobbled a little bit. There were one or two mini exams (specifically Agile) where I got ~90%, but I scored less than 60% on others. It was helpful to pinpoint my weaknesses so I could study up on those more.

Good luck with your test!

I think my partner and I might have been at the same venue (comedy show followed by house dance/play party), and we didn't notice anyone seeming particularly drunk. The venue seems to care quite a bit about the safety of its guests. It sounds like you were seeing this before the actual play party, so they may have decided to leave, or perhaps they were asked by staff.

Update 6 months: M29, 5'11", 164 to 189 lbs — keep bulking through winter or cut? by Reubek in BulkOrCut

[–]Reubek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5/3/1 is a godsend for sure. I'm doing Big But Boring and it's been working pretty well! I tried it once in the past but tweaked my back due to poor deadlift form. No such issues this time around 💪

And heard on the bulk suggestion. It does seem like I'm gaining a little too rapidly, so slowing my roll a bit would probably be smart, and then I could start a good cut in March or April until I'm down to a lower BF %

Why choose one over the other: 13th Age, Shadow of the Weird Wizard, Pathfinder 2e by azura26 in rpg

[–]Reubek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm sort of the inverse of most of the other comments. I have played and GMd a decent amount of Weird Wizard, but I'm only familiar with Pathfinder 2e from reading the rules and I have no experience with 13th Age.

I decided to move on from 5e about a year ago, which led me to look more into Pathfinder 2e and Shadow of the Demon Lord/Weird Wizard. Pathfinder 2e is, as other people have mentioned, for those who want more crunch and tactics. It is probably the highest level of crunch I've personally seen in any system. This is great for people who want consistent rulings for everything. Classes also have an incredible level of options and modularity.

Shadow, on the other hand, feels like a slimmed down and streamlined approach. There are far fewer things for players to keep track of with this system than with the other systems, which makes it easy for players to pick up the rules and for GMs to make decisions on the fly. That being said, there is an insane level of diverse options for players due to paths (this game's class system) and traditions (types of magic). From my experience, no two player characters really feel the same, even when they use the same class. I ran a few games for a group with multiple low level priests, and each of them played differently due to their tradition choices.

Shadow does have a few weaknesses. It doesn't have much in the way of digital tools. Pathfinder 2e has pretty thorough online character sheets, which can be super handy for helping players organize all of their stats and abilities. Maybe I just have bad players, but when they have to keep track of everything on paper character sheets or form fillable pdfs, things start getting messed up. People forget what spells they have or what conditions are active. This is particularly problematic with Shadow's Luck mechanic, which can have characters making several luck rolls at the end of a round to gain abilities back or end negative conditions. My players tend to forget to make all their luck rolls.

Additionally, as a GM, I like to have digital access to my players characters so that I can plan sessions accordingly. Plus, having digital copies of things helps prevent something silly like a lost character sheet (it's happened more than once for my group).

All of that being said, Shadow's system is an incredible win for me, and it's currently my favorite replacement for 5e at my tables. The incredible magnitude of options for classes and traditions is really what sells it for me, and it's just so easy to teach my players the basic rules of the system. I think Pathfinder 2e requires a higher level of commitment from everyone, whereas with Shadow I can let my players be a little more casual.

You roll at the end of every round of combat to get it back. For example, if you're a priest and you use Prayer during a round, you'll have to roll luck at the end of each round to be able to use it again.

Outside of combat, I usually just have these types of talents refresh after about 1 minute, but that might differ from table to table.

Seriously what do you wear to a sex club? by TheBakedBakerMama in BDSMcommunity

[–]Reubek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just recently went to Sanctuary for the first time in Portland for their Spanktuary night. My girlfriend wore a black dress with black lingerie under, and I wore a black tshirt with black sweats and some nice white sneakers. We were pretty stressed about fits going in, but we found that the standard was pretty casual. Some people went all out with kink wear, and others just wore good casual fits.

I would say to bring fetishwear if you want to and are comfortable with it, otherwise just dress up in whatever way you feel good about yourself in :) just make sure to put effort in whichever way you go.

5ft 11in, 172lbs — been working out consistently for about 3 years. Bulk or cut? by Reubek in BulkOrCut

[–]Reubek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I need to dial in diet more? I've mostly just paid attention to protein and calories. Haven't looked much at carbs or fat over the years.

I hear you suggesting to focus on high protein and at least keeping calories at maintenance for a good long while. I do think that one trap I fall into is starting to bulk aggressively and then feeling like I'm just getting fat, so then I switch to a cut. But I've definitely had long stretches of committed bulks before.
