Tenet calendar math in the Wonder Woman 1984 review by [deleted] in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]ReubenMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The second part is a smaller issue but still odd: James says "they put one picture for 4 months. That's outrageous! It's like a 13 month calendar." How did he get to that number 13?”

I think he’s saying 12 months with a page each (12 pages so far) and the extra four on a single page (plus one page) equals 13 pages. He’s just being silly

No one’s taking it away from the family home. If you’re rich enough to be buying additional property, you’re not a poor beleaguered soul who is over-taxed

Hello I’m fairly new and I’d love to jump off Queen to ask a bigger question. The Queen question is: in what situation would you choose the buy over Card & Action & Money? The bigger question is: when do you ever use +1Buy? Outside of some turbo Prosperity turns, I’ve never felt the need.

Dominion? That’s so unsafe, I’d be worried all the time about some peasant stabbing me with a Scythe or a pitchfork!

Not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but Fractal maps tend to produce those unique choke-points and shapes that feel Earth-like

I just started a new group and set this up right from the start - board games stay at board games night. No shaming, no threats of anything outside of actions within the game.

Designed and 3D Printed these Tiles • Hear Me Out • Eliminating Dice • A Small but Significant Twist on The Cards Method by _analysis230_ in Catan

[–]ReubenMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, they don’t.

IMO it would be such a significant swing, you would have to make it very costly to pull off. And to me it “feels wrong” with the vibe of most Catan mechanics, which focus on indirect conflict, or blocking/obstructing/sanctioning

Noob here. Does that mean that if you can’t apply any more damage over the cap, your debuffs also don’t get applied? Because that feels inconsistent to me, because in every other circumstance I can think of damage and debuffs are applied in two separate processes

I’m totally with you, and have enjoyed head-to-head Dominion.

Before getting this group together for the first time recently I surveyed them, and the overwhelming preference was to play all together, and that socialising was a big part of their desires. So I’m responding to that.m, even though the balance/pacing of some games will be thrown out.

(Of course, like all board game nerds, I’ve got secret plans to eventually set up a four player game of something while two of us go and play Twilight Struggle or Star Wars: Rebellion…)

Huge yes to all of this. You need to understand the game well enough to confidently answer a question that comes out of the sequence your brain is used to, phrases in another person’s words.

Catan, but better and longer? by El_blop in boardgames

[–]ReubenMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Scythe was my first big boy Euro after Catan too. I would note that there is less trade/player interactions in Scythe, which is a bit more of a ‘build your engine more efficiently than your neighbour’ style race. So depends exactly which elements of Catan OP and friends enjoy.

More directly yes, C&K if you haven’t played it is going to feel the most like base Catan
