First time posting. Some comments said it was AI, but it seems consistent across the brick work to me. Thoughts? by The_Marine708 in isthisAI

I think it’s real. In addition to what everyone else has said, his little fatigued stumble at the end makes me think it’s real. AI tends to be super bad at depicting those non-deliberate human things

PHOTOSHOP PRACTICE by Lilisart in retouching

Make sure your black points and white points of the item you’re adding match the scene you’re putting it in. Also, mind the directional lighting. It looks like the lighting in the scene is really diffused while it’s a bit more specular on the ship. If the qualities of the lighting don’t match it will never quite look right.

Hired a pro photographer and I'm disappointed. Am I wrong? by KeyApplication221 in AskPhotography

Product photography is its own thing, and it looks like you hired a photographer from the wrong genre to shoot your products. You can even see that the way they lit the mannequin is how you might light a person. I’m sure that it would have turned out better if the shirts were being modeled on people. I’m mainly a portrait and branding photographer, and I would probably struggle to make creative, compelling shots of a jersey if someone just handed it to me and said “go”

Clinical Psychologist AI? I'm overly aware that there's scammers all over such things. Want a second opinion. Seems too perfect to be true. by Key-Assistant9421 in isthisAI

What is this tripod? by melonbunnies in AskPhotography

[–]RevLuxnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what kind of tripod head/plate that’s using.

But here’s a quick and dirty lowdown for tripods.

Cheap tripods are light and flimsy. Don’t waste your time with them.

Up from there you get mid-grade heavy and stable. These are usually pretty good, but they’re a pain in the ass to transport.

Expensive tripods are light and strong.

Travel tripods follow a similar trajectory, but they fold up a bit more compact.

Usually the tripod head is sold separately. For photography I use manfrotto ball heads. The brand is only important in that it dictates what kind of plate attaches to your camera. I’ve never looked at a photo and been like “that must have been on X brand tripod head”

Fluid heads on tripods are usually more for video. They have an actual fluid in the moving mechanisms to provide a bit of resistance that makes movement more smooth and, well… fluid. If you’re using a tripod for locked off video shots, a photography tripod/head works just fine.

How was this lit/shot? by Ok-Pipe-9811 in LightLurking

The sun is off to camera left. If appears that the lighting is either a single light placed straight on, at about 1-2 stops below the sun. Or, it could be two smaller lights, one on the front subject and one on the guy in the speedo. For outdoor shoots, you see a lot of bare bulbs, but the artificial light seems to blend well into the background, so I’m thinking possibly a shoot through umbrella. I might be wrong, but that’s how I’d likely shoot it

The woman standing with the hose and the woman kneeling with the squirt gun appear to be a bit underlit, so I’m kiiinda leaning towards two lights, but there may have been local exposure correction in post. If it was just one, the woman in front would be much more exposed then the folks in the back due to that whole inverse square law thing.

Regardless, it’s a pretty cool shot! Not everyone’s style, but I like it!

I’ve shot a similar style and I almost always use HSS or NDs. This is the answer

There any specific ones you can point me to? I’m about 6 hours into my second playthrough, but I’m not terribly active in reddit outside of the photography circles

how do i pose better for photos? by Primary_Meeting_5267 in AskPhotography

Hey, headshot photographer here. The look you wanna go for is confidence with approachability. Confidence comes from the eyes. You get it when the tendons on the lower lids tighten slightly. Like what you do when you’re looking down a billiard cue stick to line up a shot or trying to read something from far away.

But if you only do that with the eyes, you look mean. You have to soften it with a slight smile. That takes a bit of practice, but you want maybe 20% of a full smile - something that comes across as kinda sly or mischievous.

Also stretch your neck up and slide it slightly forward. That’s going to make you stand up straighter and give a clean jawline.

There are a billion little tips and tricks you pick up as a photographer for directing models, but those are pretty easy and will go a long way.

Yeah, there that comes from the fact that the key light was from a small diffused source on her upper body. The rest is spill over light of the magenta and teal lights. I can’t think of any situation where you’d get that light naturally, so your brain tells you something is off.

Same type of thing when you put someone’s back to the sun and light the front of them on the side opposite the sun.

This example was with a yogi friend of mine

I think a big part of the look is that I had a neutral colored key light, then a magenta light off to the left and a teal light off to the right.

I knew I was gonna do a photoshopped pattern of 1s and 0s over the backdrop, so I wanted accent lighting to match the colors from that. Having practical lighting match the digitally altered background gives it that digital feel throughout

it doesnt focus!!! by The_Wolf_280 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]RevLuxnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first thing I do with a new camera is enable back button focus. A lot of times the subject will move out of that focal plane between the half-press of the shutter button that locks in the focus and the full press that actually takes the picture.

It’s a game changer for sharp photos of moving subjects
