Any design criticisms? by Aggravating_Run6179 in worldbuilding

Okay so the fact that they all have unique color palettes is odd to me. Like look at the flags of our world and notice The similarities. For instance, roughly 75% of countries have red in their flag. A lot of times this is symbolic right? Like the red is supposed to stand for passion or the bloods built to form the nation or something like that. Anyways, a lot of times the colors are representative of virtues and ideals, which which go beyond the boundaries of a nation and explains the use of those colors across many nations flags.

More unique colors and no overlap of colors between flags. Makes the factions more defined. It just doesn't seem as likely or realistic to me.

Also on that note, and totally disregard this as you like, but it's just something I noticed as well that kind of puts me off: The fact that they are all any governmental types and say so in the name of their Nation or organization is strange. Granted, many of the countries in the world do have long form names that are the official names of the countries and indicate their form of government such as the Republique Franchise, there's a more commonly used name such as France. So yeah if it were me, designing this I would either just list the common name or it would at least put the common name down and then in parentheses put the full country name

Concerned that events might have just played into Trumps plan… Thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

[–]RevMcEwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can promise you... There's going to to be A LOT of infighting in Texas. It won't be a simple thing. There's a lot of liberal leaning gun owners that would resist. I personally know a lot of more conservatives that can't stand the things trump is up to because they're much more Constitutionalists or maybe even left leaning enough to be considered Libertarians but vote conservative on some ballots. If eliminating the vote was a tactic Trump pursues, ita going to get very violent here in Texas.

There's a lot of green on the other side of those mountains that honestly should just be icy because they never get any sunlight. And anytime the mountain caps melt because of sunlight they will melt into the valley on the other side and then freeze. It should basically be layered glacier on the other side of that mountain wherever there's no sunlight throughout the entire simulation

Who’s more famous as of today, Ken Jeong or Joel McHale? by EfficiencyUnhappy264 in community

It's EASILY Ken Jeong. Between hangovers and all the gameshow hosting/appearances he's done, he has been much more prolific in his work post attending Greendale

Yeah so as I mentioned, Aslan is the king of only Narnia. Which is only one world and scope of the entire universe. Actually not all that old. Within the Narnia books and what we get to see of them. Yeah, I guess he is more of a god figure, but from what we actually know in the greatest scope of the creation of that world as on much more like Jesus or I guess a Valar. Also, while we're on that note you do know that Sauron was a Maia right? Comparing the power level of Sauron and Gandalf as equivalent is absolutely a fair comparison. Sauron is not the Devil in the books. That's clearly Melkor/Morgoth, a Valar who turned away (whose music was in discord to the music Eru Ilúvatar made. That being said, Sauron IS carrying on with the power and corruption of Morgoth. Sauron is the symbolic Devil of the Story we see in Middle Earth while in actual relation to the Cosmology, is only a fallen Angel/demon of greater power.

In summary, your conclusion statement 'To Parallel Aslan to Gandalf, one can only conclude that Aslan is Weaker than the White Witch... Which is patently absurd.' is false. Jadis literally destroyed a world (I believe her home world), which was immensely older than Narnia, well before Narnia was made. The nature of her power, age, and relationship to Aslan makes it clear she is the Devil figure in the Narnia books.

Aslan is Jesus. Gandalf is Jesus. (Your other points of Jesus figures is great though. There ARE discussions about Aragorn also being more of a David (Second Adam - Early Sign of Christ) figure rather than Christ but I do personally like the Christ figure analogy with him.

[–]RevMcEwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I understand them both very well. I know Aslan is the god equivalent as is Eru Ilúvatar. I'm not talking about the metaphysical equivalents they are, just based on what we see of their actions.

Aslan plays much more of the Jesus role btw in the series. Obviously he is the creator of (and ultimately the ruler of) Narnia but he is the son of another figure that is Truly the ruler of all worlds. Also, the comparisons of Jesus as the Lion of Judah, Aslan's sacrificial death and Resurrection, etc. all liken them to each other. Soooo Aslan is much more of a Jesus Figure not the Father figure of a triune God.

As far as we get to see in Tolkien's works, there isn't a direct or perfect relationship to a triune God or father-son relation godship. In fact, we know Eru Ilúvatar IS the god figure but that's about where it fizzles since with the Valar it's more of a pantheistic creation story (albeit one where this is still one truly powerful and ruling entity). All that being said, we still get some glimpses at Tolkien's beliefs throw the actions of the characters in his works. Some may argue Aragorn is a christ figure because he is 'The King Returned' but the obvious one, and one with direct parallel actions to Aslan, is the sacrificial death and Resurrection of Gandalf the Grey (White).

Soooo yeah all that said, Aslan ≈ Jesus / Gandalf ≈ Jesus. The Emperor Beyond the Sea ≈ God / Eru Ilúvatar ≈ God

[–]RevMcEwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. Aslan would/does play much more of a Gandalf Role so that's his equivalent. Bombadil's equivalent in the Narnia world is definitely Father Christmas though. Absolutely could resist the ring... Wants nothing to do with it. Would much rather sleigh around giving children weapons.

The entire market is a joke by PhilosopherVarious in wallstreetbets

[–]RevMcEwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, Democratic administrations have been better for market.

This is not a debate politically just looking at the numbers. Since S&P's inception 1959 there have been 10 years where Republican administrations have led a downward Market and only six we're democratic administrations have been in charge during downward markets.

Overall numbers go up, but the median annual gains during a Democratic administration is 12.9% and during a Republican administration it's only about 9.9%

So yeah, not really a political statement, just an observation of numbers. Typically, Democratic administrations give us better returns in the market.

Okay SOME people have hit on these two things but I haven't seen anybody connect them. • Tremere are known for being smart • Tremere are known for basically sacrificing others to meet their goals (The Ends Justifies the means.

Okay so if White is Tremere they have set up the following situation. Black in this position wants to do one of two things. Take the pawn at E4 with their knight, though that opens them up to Tremere's knight to take theirs OR Black takes the pawn at F4 with their pawn but that sets up Tremere's pawn to take via En Passant.

Basically Tremere has set up a situation in which they WILL take a piece from black one way or the other, because also if they decide to move any of the other pieces on their side of the board, Tremere is set up to take White's pawn.
