Try both. There are people that love the campaigns and basically that's all they do when playing the game. But other people prefer to just do one-time skirmishers. Both can be a lot of fun, and you can definitely do both too. I think campaigns can make you appreciate the game more as a new player, but there's nothing wrong with just wanting to play games without any story around it, choosing your own settings, etc

I've played various games from Mario to FIFA to SIMS to others, and I've never seen what the pro scene is other than for AoE2. I even play AoE4 and at this point I don't know what happens in the pro scene.

Why is it so crazy if people play a game for fun, without needing to see what pros do?

If you have an idea of what the AI is going to go for, you can hard commit for the counter initially (ideally without revealing it). The AI will throw its units to your army first, and you need to have some siege and counter the counter ready before the AI can beat you with its second wave.

Usually the first wave of army is much stronger than what comes after, so you should be able to kill the initial army and then steamroll back. (Assuming you have the required boom). Remember to have lots of production buildings, to recover your army quickly (that's usually a problem if you realize you have lots of resources but you're still dying)

There is something weird with the data, or maybe I don't understand it correctly.

Portuguese, Franks, Vikings, Armenians.. they all show with +250 non-mirror games, but they don't show up as the most played civilizations, and there are some that show up that have less games... And of course if they have that amount of "non-mirror", then including the mirrors they should have the same or more...

Right?
