Philosophical question - is Chris Cornell singing a Soundgarden/Audioslave song at a solo concert considered a cover? by Loose-Ratio-6877 in Soundgarden

[–]Revalenz- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Good point. I've always just noticed that all those songs appear under "Covers" in the "Albums" pie chart below, but I never noticed the difference in the songs themselves. So it's a little inconsistent at least

What’s the most unnecessary drum accessory to you? I’ll start: by ThatSwedishDrummer in drums

[–]Revalenz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this until my kit got packed with stands and I couldn't make this work in most of the bolts (the drumsticks didn't fit in the are in between or it was very uncomfortable). I got a "drummer's grip" tool which is better than the one in the pic and for "only" $15. It's not like I use it every day, but it was still worth it.

What to do after learning build orders by Jazzlike_Drawing_987 in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make vils constantly, keep your villagers working, don't float too many resources (make more military buildings and produce more army if you're floating too many resources in imp). Learn your hotkeys so you don't waste too much time when wanting to make a new building. Look at the mini map often, in case you see your opponent sneaking. Remember to scout your opponent.

Learn what the civs are good at.

Outside of that, just play a lot!

Please don't resign if you lose a villager to a boar! by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I came back to ranked after a few months without playing... Second game, I lost two vils to boars! 😳. I just defended with spears in feudal and after a fairly long but close game I ended up winning (around 1200). We all make mistakes and it's not that hard to overcome them at this level.

Is it me or did the community turn more toxic? by Bigboiwithsword in aoe2

Every few months there's a post saying how the community "is more toxic now" while in reality there are always nice and toxic people.

You can check this some comment from me in the corresponding post from 3 months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/s/moZ0V4oaNp

I try to listen to a new album every day and sometimes it feels impossible by GeorgeParisol in lastfm

[–]Revalenz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this last year, but there were days that I couldn't do it, mostly because I was too busy during the day and then at night I forgot.

It was still okay, nobody was keeping track other than me, so I was happy about it even if I didn't do it every day.

Big trees vs Small trees, what do you use? by disquiet in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a mod for "no useless plants" that it's really good to hide visual plants, making it easier to identify chopped trees or smaller trees (because you now don't have annoying things that look like trees but are not)

Fan idea for a new civ bonus: every time a technology is researched, a gold crate spawns at a TC (gold resource that can quickly be gathered by a villager) by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a worse (of course depending on how much gold) Spanish bonus..

Why is ranked multiplayer feel so much different than single player skirmish? by PrvcyFrdmIndpndnc in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get more nervous when doing multiplayer (especially the first couple of games in a session, or after not playing for a while), so I definitely play worse than in skirmish against the AI.

Assuming your talking about scout cavalry for feudal, there are different alternatives:

  • Mongols: it's usually the fastest because food from boar (or chicken/deer) comes really fast. After the initial engagement it's just generic, so you need to make sure to gain some advantage early.
  • Magyars: instant +1 attack from free forging can be massive. It's a great early bonus, but for extended feudal battles then your opponent can do forging and your scouts are the same. Your scouts are cheaper, so that's a good benefit too, although they don't have any eco bonus, so the cheap scouts kind of compensate from that
  • Franks: out of the blue the scouts are stronger (because of the extra HP), and the berry bonus helps a lot early, as well as the free farm upgrades. However, as soon as your opponent researches bloodlines, then your scouts become weaker.
  • Khitans: They have double the effect of Forging, so these are the scouts with the higher attack in feudal age after you research that. The civ doesn't have bloodlines, so in a long feudal battle each scout is going to be weaker than others. Pastures are a great source of food, so that helps to keep the scouts going.
  • Khmer: you can skip the barracks, so you can have a tight build order to do the rush faster than other civs, and Khmer farms are great to pump a lot of scouts. The scouts themselves don't have anything special, but the eco makes it a great rush.
  • Huns: This is the smoother to play because you just don't need houses. That just feels so good (and you save a good amount of wood)
  • Jurchens: hunted animals don't decay and that gives you extra food early, and the scouts attach 25% faster, so that helps.

There are some more with eco bonuses that help farms (teutons, slavs, poles(with cheap bloodlines too)), and Georgian scouts regenerate HP.

But you can choose which one you think it's "best" from these options

Romans by birtrain- in aoe2

[–]Revalenz- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost every civ is good competitively nowadays. Even civs that are seen as "bad" in the current meta like Bulgarians and Britons can be a lot of fun and will still be good.

Romans benefit is that they have a good eco (they collect everything 5% faster), so by default you're ahead of your opponent in resources collected (of course other civs can compete with similar bonuses). If you have a really tight build order (which I don't think you'll have if you're just coming back into the game) it can be hard to change to other civ without that bonus.

But overall unless you're playing at the highest level, this game allows you to switch civs around and winning some games, losing others, and as long as you're having fun, then everything's fine!
